Hello, was unsure what topic to put this under and this was the closest i could find.. i was doing some spring cleaning and came across some old valentines day cards and remembered a discussion i had with my Husband when putting them in the window back then, I was of the opinion that I like to put cards facing outwards on the window for the whole world to see but he was of the opinion that they should be facing inwards because he doesnt feel comfortable having strangers see the cards and that nobody faces their cards outwards.. am i the only one who does this?? Lol if people put all sorts of personal stuff on social media for all strangers to see i am sure there is nothing wrong with putting cards on the window sil facing outwards 🙄 i just want to show how loving my family is and share the occasion.. i am really itching to know if anyone else does this? Please someone say yes they do so i stop feeling like the odd one out! 😩

Inwards. Cards are for me not the bloody public! Grin

HoneyBunnii · 20/07/2023 21:46

Oh gosh i didnt expect so many replies and couldnt stop laughing my butt off at alot of them 😆 idk.. to me it feels the same as when you post stuff on FB or other social media on your birthday etc saying things like "lucky to have such a such thing in my life" or "blessed on my birthday" with pics of people with their family on their special occasions, i mean, there are alot of strangers that would also see that on social media not forgetting intimate pics if your profile isnt private and as for the cards, im gonna have the rest of the year to come across them and see them once they are stored away so (to me) seemed abit eh to have them there on the window sil staring at me everyday for atleast a week 😁

It's eh to have them facing inwards so you can enjoy looking at them for a week but you're intending on storing them for the rest of the year so you can look at and enjoy them periodically for the next however long???

This mind is well and truly boggled...

Multipleexclamationmarks · 20/07/2023 22:06

Facing inward, they're for me or whoever in my house not random passers by.
It's not the same as social media at all because I only have close friends on there not random strangers and also I don't tend to post about my birthday on Facebook.

HeddaGarbled · 20/07/2023 22:13

OK, you don’t understand how birthday cards work. I blame your parents!

You don’t keep them. You put them up to enjoy for a week or so, then you put them in the recycling, or use them for writing shopping lists, or for craft activities or whatever. You keep a few for sentimental reasons (home-made by children, first one from husband when he was a new boyfriend, that sort of thing).

If you store every greeting card you’ve ever been given, by the time you’re my age, you’ll be living in a tiny square in the middle of your living room surrounded by teetering piles of glittery cardboard.

HoneyBunnii · 20/07/2023 22:45

Its only me and my husband and my one kid so they wouldnt amount to that much that i would get crushed under a pile of them when i am in my old age 😆 @YourNameGoesHere yeah its nice to keep them for memories in a box and then come across them now and then, whats so mind boggling about that? 🙃

Inwards, I wouldn't want to look at the back of cards and why would I want the neighbours to see my private business? As it happens ours go on the mantle anyway so it isn't an issue.

2chocolateoranges · 20/07/2023 22:50

I have never seen or heard anyone who put their cards on the windowsill, that’s a new one to me!

if I had to i’d face then inwards but our cat knocks everything you sit on the window sill onto the floor so that’s a definite no go in our house!

HoneyBunnii · 20/07/2023 22:51

Since i had my now 2 year old son i have never put anything in the window sil anyways thanks to him climbing onto the sofa and wanting to inspect every vase and decor he can get his hands on so i guess it will remain empty for a while now 😁 thank you all for your replies however i dont think this thread will stop me, i guess i am different 😄 wierd/ strange whatever 🙈 i accept it and i am proud 🤪

People put intimate pics & ‘blessed on my birthday’ stuff on FB for strangers to see? Why?

saraclara · 20/07/2023 22:52

GoodChat · 20/07/2023 18:41

Facing inwards. They're for the receiver - not for the neighbours.

That. I have no idea why anyone would aim them at strangers, rather than enjoy them in the way the card givers intended.

Do you have the 'right side' of your curtains facing outwards, too? Who are you trying to impress by having your cards facing at passers by?

HoneyBunnii · 20/07/2023 22:55

@saraclara nobody to imress i think they just look pretty in the window 😁 as i said if everyone else does the opposite thats good for them but i would rather do it the other way 😄 just a personal choice

@EmpressaurusOfCats lol idk 🙃 i just see them often and think "geez i wouldnt put my kids pics on social media" i draw the line at the cards facing outwards 😆

I don't even bother putting cards up. Fucking annoying things.

saraclara · 20/07/2023 22:57

i just want to show how loving my family is

Bonkers. Absolutely bonkers. Do you really think that people passing your house are staring in to read all the cards? They're not. They're looking ahead and going about their bunsiness. And they'd need to have phenomenal eyesight to do so anyway.

It's really quite sad that you feel the need to do this, to be honest.

saraclara · 20/07/2023 22:58

@saraclara nobody to imress i think they just look pretty in the window

But you said the opposite in your OP (which I just quoted in my post of a minute or tow ago

DeadBod · 20/07/2023 23:00

Always facing inwards.
I'm amazed at bonkers people on here. I once read a thread where people opened their birthday cards when they received them rather than waiting and opening them all together on their actual birthday.

Lavender14 · 20/07/2023 23:01

Inwards, I would never put them in the windowsill for all to see on birthdays or Christmas - feels like an invitation for burglars to know you've presents in the house. Plus we've a cat who would immediately knock them all down. For Xmas they go on a card holder on our bookcase and birthdays they go on the mantlepiece. I feel like I will see them more than passers by so why would I want to look at the backs of the cards?

HoneyBunnii · 20/07/2023 23:04

@saraclara thats not trying to impress 😄 why would i think someone is gonna see my card and go "hmmm im impressed she has a loving family" more of a "aww bless" ..
When i see something nice i tend to feel that way too for example someone proposing etc.. i like wishing the best for everyone 😁

And i dont care if anyone is looking or not i just put them there if anyone sees them they see.. if they dont they dont, either way they just look nice 😄 if u feel thats bonkers then thats your opinion 😃 as i said, i prefer doing as i do 😄

this is the point at which we entered a parallel universe 🤣. Absolutely barking mad.

Crack on because every other household hates each other.

HoneyBunnii · 20/07/2023 23:08

@Lavender14 my sofa is in the way so i couldnt see them anyways ☹️ and there is no other place i could have put them (before DS arrived)

@DeadBod i dont do that but i wouldnt say it annoys me, its their cards at the end of the day 😄 even if they end up using it as emergency loo paper 🤣

Hah! Me too. What an utterly bonkers thread!
