Hello, was unsure what topic to put this under and this was the closest i could find.. i was doing some spring cleaning and came across some old valentines day cards and remembered a discussion i had with my Husband when putting them in the window back then, I was of the opinion that I like to put cards facing outwards on the window for the whole world to see but he was of the opinion that they should be facing inwards because he doesnt feel comfortable having strangers see the cards and that nobody faces their cards outwards.. am i the only one who does this?? Lol if people put all sorts of personal stuff on social media for all strangers to see i am sure there is nothing wrong with putting cards on the window sil facing outwards 🙄 i just want to show how loving my family is and share the occasion.. i am really itching to know if anyone else does this? Please someone say yes they do so i stop feeling like the odd one out! 😩

If I face them inwards 2 of us can see them, if I faced them outwards nobody would be able to see them and we could look at card backs so it's definitely inwards in this house.

VisionsOfSplendour · 20/07/2023 19:03

No one faces the cards outside you weirdo 😁

Reallybadidea · 20/07/2023 19:04

Is this the offline equivalent of a social media post that says "feeling blessed on my birthday to have such wonderful family and friends" with accompanying pictures of cards and presents?

Mochudubh · 20/07/2023 19:04

Facing inwards.

However, when I was little I thought the patterned side of the curtains faced outwards and used to turn the ones in the school Wendy house. This seemed to make sense for me at the time even though we didn't have them facing out at home.

I don't think I grew up in the place a pp mentioned where they do things like that

Karrpt · 20/07/2023 19:04

🤣 oh I'm cringing for you OP

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/07/2023 19:05

Inwards like any normal person the planet 😂

Jongleterre · 20/07/2023 19:06

Inwards.

I have in my 94 (slight exaggeration) years ever seen cards facing outwards.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 20/07/2023 19:07

What's he afraid of, people stealing your soul by looking at your cards and knowing it's someone's birthday? I can safely say that if I see cards in a window I think 'oh a birthday, nice,' and keep walking. Other people's birthday cards are even more boring than their dreams.

Freetodowhatiwant · 20/07/2023 19:10

Never ever seen them facing outwards of heard of anyone facing them outwards!

BumWhisperers · 20/07/2023 19:13

That is a bit weird OP, sorry

Theyre not a secret like your dh is suggesting, but maybe thats his way of trying to save himself from the embaresment of everything being showy all the time. It feels quite Hyacinth Bouquet

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/07/2023 19:14

Inwards. Why would anyone else be interested in your cards?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 20/07/2023 19:19

Inwards so I can see them! No one outside is looking in your windows at your cards. And if they are peering in the window, they blinking shouldn't be! 😂

Do you also hang your curtains with the pretty side facing out? DM had a mad aunt with 'double sided' curtains to show off to the neighbours 😃

LadyEloise1 · 20/07/2023 19:20

Inwards.

There’s a town near me where residents are famous for that sort of stuff - curtains turned to face the street so you can see the stunning fabric, in the days that people collected ornaments , the Lladro faced the street. I don’t know whether that’s all true but the residents are known for being spendy, and sorry Op, but that’s what this sounds like to me.
Cards , curtains, whatever - good side to the room

Could you name and shame it please 😂

HeddaGarbled · 20/07/2023 19:24

Bonkers. You’re going to sit in your house day after day looking at the bar codes and printers’ details rather than the pretty pictures just to show off?

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 20/07/2023 19:25

Facing inwards

StampOnTheGround · 20/07/2023 19:26

Definitely inwards OP!

Azaeleasinbloom · 20/07/2023 19:48

@LadyEloise1 That would be mean of me, but it is NE Scotland …

👍😂

Hbh17 · 20/07/2023 19:57

Inwards, obviously, so you can look at them. The narcissism of expecting the world to admire "how loving my family is" leaves me speechless, tbh. I have never known or seen anyone face their cards outwards.

Clymene · 20/07/2023 20:13

Inwards. But there's a high hedge and a front garden so if I had them facing out, the only people who would see them would be the postman.

Why out? Do you think it makes you look popular? Confused

👍😂

St Andrews?!

noglow · 20/07/2023 20:18

Inwards. Though perhaps Christmas cards could face outwards as a window display if you felt particularly festive. Much better to be able to see them inside your own house though rather than the backs of cards.

Maybe out so people can see they aren't "with sympathy cards" and no one has died

EBearhug · 20/07/2023 20:28

Inwards. They're for people in the house to see.

Though I did go past a house in Haarlem in the Netherlands that had a line of books facing the window so all passers-by could read the spines. I raised my eyebrow at that.
