If you don’t have an airing cupboard, where do you store your towels/ bedding?

Pictures would be amazing, but only if you want to! I have nothing to share, which can be annoying when the OP asks for photos! 😬

My new house doesn’t have an airing cupboard and I'm looking for inspiration before I go buying.

Thank you!

I have an airing cupboard in my current house but used to store them in a chest of drawers on the landing in my old house

User9088 · 06/01/2023 13:37

I have a big basket that sits nicely in the en suite and roll them up and stand them in there. I also don't use the en suite much though so they're not in the way.

Bathroom cupboard for towels and spare bedroom wardrobes for bedding

sillysmiles · 06/01/2023 13:39

I would think a blanket box in each bedroom would also work, and then spare duvets like winter/summer duvets in vacuum bags in the attic?

hellosunshineagainxxx · 06/01/2023 13:40

A kallax in the spare bedroom

inappropriateraspberry · 06/01/2023 13:40

When we did the kitchen I made sure we had tall cupboards put in along wall. The one nearest the utility door has all bedding and towels in. Like an airing cupboard but actually a kitchen cabinet I suppose! If I didn't have that I'd get an ottoman bed and store it all in there.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 06/01/2023 13:40

I have a (very unfashionable) divan bed, and all sheets and towels live in the drawers underneath that.

bigbadbarry · 06/01/2023 13:40

We recently bought new beds and got ones with storage underneath so all bedding is there. Towels in a heap cupboard in the bathroom

TeapotCollection · 06/01/2023 13:41

We keep ours in zipper bags, holds the freshness in without creasing them like vac bags do

I had an airing cupboard built in the void as you go upstairs. The door is on the landing and I store blankets sheets spare bedding duvet covers etc etc and towels too. You would not know it had not always been there and the space was a redundant one anyway. The cupboard is massive.

We do have an airing cupboard now and the towels live there, but bedding is in a large blanket box in the spare bedroom. DS' bedding lives in his room in the drawer at the bottom of his wardrobe. Spare duvets etc are vacuum packed and live inside our bed, hydraulic side opening superking, suitcases also go in there, only problem is I'm not strong enough to lift it with the mattress on top....
When I had a flat I didn't have an airing cupboard just a large ottoman at the foot of the bed

ChessieFL · 06/01/2023 13:49

In an ottoman bed.

bloodyeverlastinghell · 06/01/2023 13:49

Sinks in upstairs bathroom are on top of a freestanding cupboard towels live in there. On shelves in downstairs bathroom between shower and bath. Spare bedding in the appropriate room. Bottom drawer of wardrobe in Dc bedrooms. Under bed drawers in my room. Spare duvets/ bedspreads get stored in space saver bags over summer.

We really miss the airing cupboard we had in our old house as our newbuild has nothing similar. There is a tall cupboard on the landing but it contains the water cylinder and expansion tanks, OH has offered to fit shelving at the top but they would be way too high to reach easily as our house has high ceilings.

Instead we have two oak cupboards which contain all towels & bedding as luckily floor-space is not an issue (spare duvets & pillows are stored in an ottoman bed in the spare room). The low unit on the landing and handy for towels, flannels etc whereas the tall unit is out of the way in the spare bedroom (where it stands next to the bedroom furniture).

Blanket boxes in each room are also a good option (if you have the space) but when we got the cupboards we ended up putting these to another use.

In a fabric storage zip up box under the bed.

bobbytorq · 06/01/2023 14:42

I have a basket in the bathroom for towels and my bedding goes in the storage under the bed.

Millionaireshortbread0 · 06/01/2023 14:47

Each person has a set of towels and spare bedding in the draws in their bedroom.
When I was growing up we had a chest of draws on landing for towels and toiletries. We kept the bedding in our rooms.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/01/2023 14:57

Towels are either in the bathroom ready to be used, drying on hooks in the bedroom in-between use, or being laundered. We don't have towels tucked away anywhere.

Bedding for our bed and dds (both kings) is in a cabinet in the spare room. Ds (single) has his in a basket in his room

in A box on the landing. Really annoying not having an airing cupboard

Iamnotausername · 06/01/2023 15:09

In a drawer in our wardrobe. Don't have many to store though (partly due to lack of storage space!).

BringOnAutumn · 06/01/2023 15:10

Thank you for the answers. I would love a blanket box, but haven’t found one big enough to take towels and bedding.

My first idea was for everyone to have their own towels/ bedding in storage under the beds, but annoyingly the bathroom on a different mezzanine floor. On the one hand, I love it, but it’s not practical - people just don’t take their towels to the bedroom from the washroom and then forget to take new ones to the bathroom when they need to be changed (unless organise everything …) or they forget and use someone else’s towel 😫 I’ve found my towel wet one too many times…

I've seen some lovely cupboards, but I imagine things falling out if not stored properly… although nice boxes could work?

I wonder about a lovely cupboard with four large drawers? One for everyone. Technically, everyone could still keep bedding in their rooms, but the bathroom is on the way to the bedroom from the washroom and I fancy a one stop storage place.

I want to get something lovely, not just a solution, but something I like to have in my house (like those lovely blanket boxes).

Ps our bedrooms are small, but we have storage space in corridors- big hall/ mezzanine/ landing.

Is your boiler on the wall not in a cupboard? I built shelves into the boiler cupboard.
