Check out before paid for breakfast

We are about to book our first package holiday and wondering what happens about breakfast if your transfer doe return flight leaves before breakfast? Isn’t that a bit unfair since you’ve paid for it?! The travel co (jet2) have said you get told your transfer time 72 hours ahead.

Mate

what do you expect to happen?

sirthisisawendys · 29/08/2024 23:33

Lol.

Karmaisac4t · 29/08/2024 23:34

Absolutely criminal behaviour of them.

lol

Timeforaglassofwine · 29/08/2024 23:34

How much is breakfast, £10 pp? Just take it on the chin.

Changingplace · 29/08/2024 23:36

Really? 🤣 and you’ve booked the flight times, it’s not going to be a massive surprise what your transfer pick up time is, c’mon now.

Newtv · 29/08/2024 23:36

Some hotels will actually do you a little packed breakfast to take away if you're leaving before service times.

What time is your flight home?

Tbh I couldn't give a shit and would suck it up.

samarrange · 29/08/2024 23:38

Sorry, that's the luck of the draw.

You might equally well have a 6am outward flight and arrive at the hotel in time for lunch on day 1, and then an 8pm return flight so you would still be at the hotel until 3pm on the last day. You would probably score an extra lunch that way. (The hotel's formal full-board policy might be 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 7 dinners for a 7-night stay, but if necessary the tour operator will pay for the extra lunch — although it probably all comes out neutral overall anyway.)

I guess the hotel might issue you with a croissant and a box of juice to eat on the bus, but I don't think there's any way to guarantee "fairness" with an 18-hour window of flight times on both the first and last day.

DollopOfFun · 29/08/2024 23:38

You may find they will make you a little pack up breakfast to have on your travels.

But if not, yes I'm afraid they will be spending your breakfast money on some end of season booze, coke and hookers.

WonderingWanda · 29/08/2024 23:40

Lots of hotels have a continental breakfast for early checkouts.

BeMintBee · 29/08/2024 23:40

Well if you know your flight time then you can make a pretty good guess at transfer pick up time. You’ve paid for a package holiday and would have been aware of flight times when you booked. I don’t think you can really think about it in terms of I’ve paid for x numbers of breakfasts and I’m being fiddled out of one of them. Sounds a bit silly to complain!

Invisimamma · 29/08/2024 23:43

It's bad luck, the hotel doesn't pick the flight times. If it's a good hotel they might do a packed breakfast. Or just eat at the airport or on the flight instead 🤷‍♀️.

And get this, if you arrive late you'll miss dinner too 😅.

Really not worth getting worked up about.

HeddaGarbled · 29/08/2024 23:54

since you’ve paid for it

This is extreme penny pinching.

Thevelvelletes · 30/08/2024 00:37

Is it though?
Have you saw the price of toast lately.😁😂

PoopedAndScooped · 30/08/2024 00:43

You booked the flight times so that has nothing to do with the hotel

But

Some hotels will offer a breakfast to go that includes things like croissants and a cake / biscuit. That kinda thing

But from my experience this has only been in the 5 star hotels iv stayed in

Nadeed · 30/08/2024 00:47

You would have to be leaving very early surely? Some places do continental breakfast for very early travellers, but if your transfer is say at 3am, they will not be providing a breakfast.

loropianalover · 30/08/2024 00:49

Just have a double breakfast the day before, duh.

Kitkat1523 · 30/08/2024 01:07

Bless 😊

That's on par with aViz Top tip.
Brilliant idea.

BobbyBiscuits · 30/08/2024 01:42

I'm sure you can do without one mornings worth of cheap pastries, greasy cold bacon and rubber eggs? By the end of it you'll probably be sick to the back teeth of the buffet if it's all inclusive.
It seems a weird thing to be so concerned about. If you desperately needed the last breakfast then you should've booked your flights for later on in the day.

User2123 · 30/08/2024 01:46

Speak to reception to see if they can offer a take away breakfast, or if the restaurant is open slightly before the advertised times. Our recent holiday was advertised as breakfast from 7:30 but there were small numbers of people in there from 7:15 with just enough time to grab a quick croissant and coffee before their bus arrived. If you know you will be leaving before breakfast, try to take a few things like rolls or bits of cake from dinner the night before, or pop to a supermarket nearby for a pack of biscuits.

Not something to get petty about though. We had an evening flight arriving, we could have checked in from mid afternoon but didn't arrive until 3am the next morning. Can hardly expect compensation for the missed dinner and access to facilities, we knew the flight times when we booked it and saved £££ by opting for the later flight.

Don't book a return flight before midday if you want breakfast, maybe even later if it's a long transfer. Or pay the extra for a private transfer which will give you more time.

As you say, it depends on the hotel.

Our honeymoon flight arrived late because of a diversion (after a Walkman was found in the loo).

We got to the hotel and the kitchen - God bless 'em - had laid out a table with plates of salad covered with clingfilm and a glass of orange per person (also covered).

Appleblum · 30/08/2024 01:56

It's just one of those things that happen. If you ask nicely they'll usually pack you a takeaway breakfast - some bread and pastries, fruit, and a hot drink.

countdowntonap · 30/08/2024 03:05

@kennycat if you are leaving so early it’s before breakfast, are you sure that you will still have your room/be a guest at that time? Or could it be that you’ve actually checked out at 11am (e.g. on Wed) and have to wait around the hotel until 2am (e.g. Thur) for your transfer?

BruceAndNosh · 30/08/2024 03:32

Eat a double size breakfast the day before you leave.
That'll show em

Guavafish1 · 30/08/2024 03:45

See if they can do you breakfast box or take away.

We had an early flight and would miss the breakfast. The hotel did a breakfast box which had drink, sandwich and a sweet.
