Check out before paid for breakfast

We are about to book our first package holiday and wondering what happens about breakfast if your transfer doe return flight leaves before breakfast? Isn’t that a bit unfair since you’ve paid for it?! The travel co (jet2) have said you get told your transfer time 72 hours ahead.

I think it varies by hotel and by country/culture.

I’ve stayed places where if you miss breakfast you miss it, and others where they’ll give you a crossiant and coffee/juice to take with you. We booked a day trip once on a trip to Taiwan and we had something like a 5am pick up from the lobby of our hotel and someone from the front desk brought us coffee and a bag each with sandwiches, juice boxes, pastries and other bits in before our driver arrived. We weren’t expecting that at all as we weren’t actually checking out, but it seemed to be standard practice there. I think they must have noted it when the concierge booked the day trip for us.

Peakpeakpeak · 30/08/2024 08:34

This happened to us once. Pick up at 7, which was the same time breakfast started. The hotel said that as it takes time to set up for the breakfast buffet, we were welcome to come in at 630 and grab some cold stuff. Obviously nothing hot would be available before the official starting time, but they had pastries, juice and cheese. They were also fine with us taking a few pieces of fruit with us for the airport.

FrenchandSaunders · 30/08/2024 08:41

What time is your flight?

Anotherusername2024 · 30/08/2024 08:43

When this happened to me the hotel did a small cold breckfast for us but tbh it was so poorly I couldn't bear to eat it always the same for me at the end of an all inclusive.
However I would say my dad who is diabetic might struggle without food before the transfer if this is the case speak to reception/buy something from the shop the day before.

aintnospringchicken · 30/08/2024 11:28

We had an early pick up for our return to the airport with Jet2 earlier in the summer. We spoke to the hotel receptionist and they arranged for a food pack to be delivered to our accommodation the evening before we left,a bag for each of us.The bags consisted of bread, butter, cheese, ham, bottle of water, yogurt, packet of crisps and a piece of fresh fruit. We kept them in the fridge overnight.

It’s 11am so I’d guess we’d have to leave hotel at around 7.
im
planning on talking nicely to the staff and getting some extra cold bits (cereal boxes etc) the day before to eat at the airport. Hopefully that will work…

This is a jet2 hol as well so maybe the same!

Based on another thread. This is the only reason you can take away breakfast food to eat later

as PP have said they usually provide a bag of food and a takeaway cup unless it’s the very early hours of the morning

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 30/08/2024 22:06

Make sure you take all the toiletries, tea and coffee packets, shower caps, etc from your room. Don't forget the batteries in the TV remote. Also insist on taking your towels to the airport and only hand them back to the rep when you're through check in. Why should you surrender them up to three hours before you officially leave?

CheeseWisely · 30/08/2024 22:10

@kennycat The facility for early breakfast will depend entirely on the hotel, not the tour operator you've booked with. I stay in holiday / resort type hotels a lot (mix of work and leisure) and have had everything from early access to the restaurant, to a few bits available in reception to take away if required, to a pre-packed breakfast box.

As a general rule of thumb I'd say it's rare in 2 or 3 star hotels, common but not guaranteed in 4 star and there will almost certainly be some kind of offering in 5 star.

Oh fgs.

get a croissant at the airport

PoopedAndScooped · 31/08/2024 03:02

Is there a reason you need breakfast and cant just get something at the airport?
I presume you didnt order a meal on the plane? How long is the flight?

glitches78 · 31/08/2024 05:23

Whenever we've had an early flight we've had a good bag for breakfast left at reception for us. Fruit, water, yoghurt, cheese, meat. Just ask them

Mate

what do you expect to happen?

This!

Simplelobsterhat · 31/08/2024 06:01

When we last went to an all inclusive, with similar timings, they had the cold breakfast stuff out early on the breakfast buffet while they were prepping the main breakfast, so you were allowed to go in and help yourself to cereal, croissants, fruit etc, I think from about 6.00. it was quite weird just us and about one other family sitting in a basically closed restaurant. Really handy though. Not sure how common that is.

mitogoshi · 31/08/2024 06:14

If you are on an all inclusive package the flip side is you can get a breakfast or lunch on day one if you're early enough.

Mate

what do you expect to happen?

Maybe one of the many scenarios people have described here involving pack-ups etc?

Not sure why this simple question has been so triggering for so many. She's only asking!

BruceAndNosh · 30/08/2024 03:32

Eat a double size breakfast the day before you leave.
That'll show em

Holidayhell22 · 31/08/2024 07:01

I’ve stayed at lots of hotels in my time.
Its swings and roundabouts for me.
I couldn’t get worked up about this.
What you lose on the roundabouts you gain on the swings.

VerbenaGirl · 31/08/2024 07:07

The hotel should do you a packed breakfast. We had a late arrival once and they did us a mini supper buffet.

rookiemere · 31/08/2024 07:28

The best response we had in this situation was when we were leaving a French mountain hotel because we were flying home from Geneva airport. Geneva is notoriously expensive and the hotel owner not only opened up breakfast early for us, but actively encouraged us to make up filled rolls and take as many croissants and pain au chocolats as wanted to avoid having to buy lunch at the airport. As it was I only had to buy a couple of £6 bottles of water ( this was about 8 years ago so a truly shocking price).

As others have said, most places will make up something for you to takeaway if you ask.

needhelpwiththisplease · 31/08/2024 07:44

Jesus!
Just get a brew& pastries at the airport!
Or in future book flights that mean you can pinch every last penny to your heart's content

CheeseWisely · 31/08/2024 08:10

mitogoshi · 31/08/2024 06:14

Not always; some won't give out the all-inclusive wrist band until check in time, even if you arrive at 8am.

CheeseWisely · 31/08/2024 08:11

Alternatively just have a massive salad the night before and you'll be stuffed until your next holiday.

Dbank · 31/08/2024 08:16

Ask, they will probably provide something as an alternative.
