Check out before paid for breakfast

We are about to book our first package holiday and wondering what happens about breakfast if your transfer doe return flight leaves before breakfast? Isn’t that a bit unfair since you’ve paid for it?! The travel co (jet2) have said you get told your transfer time 72 hours ahead.

We had our first very early return flight home on our last holiday.
We were planning on getting something at the airport or on the plane but, as we checked out (very early hours) they just automatically gave us a paper plate covered in clingfilm loaded with fresh pastry, rolls, cold meats, butter and cheese with some fruit and 2 bottles of very cold water- I was really surprised at this thoughtful gesture.

Lovelysummerdays · 31/08/2024 08:24

Often hotels will do an early breakfast, so help yourself to coffee / toast / jam /cereal or a breakfast bag to go. I’ve been grateful for a takeaway coffee, pastry and a banana especially when you’ve got a long transfer/ check in queue before you can buy something.

Peakpeakpeak · 31/08/2024 10:33

Even if they provide nothing at all for people leaving before breakfast time OP, at most all inclusives there will be fruit available with every meal. So you could always grab a couple of bananas the night before, and keep them for the morning.

in case you DIE 😉😀

Muchtoomuchtodo · 31/08/2024 13:45

It’s ok. I’ll have it for you. Our return flight isn’t until 9pm so I’ll have your breakfast and lunch. You’re welcome xx

AtomicBlondeRose · 31/08/2024 13:51

Why all the snotty, know-it-all, WRONG replies? Nearly all hotels do actually realise you’ve paid for breakfast and therefore need to deliver on it, and will either make you a breakfast to takeaway or let you in early to grab something.

Franticbutterfly · 31/08/2024 14:13

On my last holiday I was told just as the airport transport was about to arrive that I could've gone up for breakfast. I was gutted.

It is quite weird the number of harrumphing replies OPs quite innocent question has attracted.

AtomicBlondeRose · 31/08/2024 15:25

It’s the absolute smug certainty that the hotel will be like “FUCK YOU” about breakfast when I’ve never encountered that in my life! Maybe everyone has only ever stayed in B&Bs in Blackpool in the 1970s.

Nadeed · 31/08/2024 15:30

Rxactly!
Unless you are leaving in the middle of the night, hotels do a continental only breakfast, or a take away breakfast box.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 31/08/2024 15:36

It's tough titty and eat something at airport ime

When we last went to an all inclusive, with similar timings, they had the cold breakfast stuff out early on the breakfast buffet while they were prepping the main breakfast, so you were allowed to go in and help yourself to cereal, croissants, fruit etc, I think from about 6.00. it was quite weird just us and about one other family sitting in a basically closed restaurant. Really handy though. Not sure how common that is.

I wonder if it’s a thing. While on holiday I saw a few times people eating inside the restaurant before the usual opening time.
Good to know that it’s possible. Thanks for useful thread @kennycat

Oh fgs.

get a croissant at the airport

Yes obviously if there’s no alternative we will buy food at the airport. I’m not a total moron.
My query was about the fact that as breakfast is part of the package was there likely to be anything done if you had to leave, on a transfer coach that is also part of the package, before the breakfast time.

Would you leap at the option of paying for a three course meal and the staff not letting you have pudding? I bet not. That’s my disgruntlement!

Hotels are used to early airport departures, many have the continental breakfast part open early along with the drinks so people can grab something. Last place I stayed in had limited early breakfast from 6-7.30am then full breakfast 7.30-10.30am then limited from 10.30-11.30am! (We generally only made the late limited!)

mitogoshi · 31/08/2024 16:38

Also it does depend on who owns the hotel, some are linked to the tour company others are independent and they receive a set fee. In my experience the owned hotels are more likely to offer extended food though the kitchen offered to make us dinner at 1am when we arrived at a hotel in the past (yes we missed the first meal, work schedules!) I turned them down due to indigestion issues

usernother · 31/08/2024 16:42

Just eat at the airport and don't be so tight. I can recommend a hearty Burger King or McDonald's when you get to the airport just to finish off the holiday. It's my holiday treat. Grin

Nomorecoconutboosts · 31/08/2024 16:47

This thread is reminding me of a similar situation we encountered with an early flight.
the hotel did invite families to have cold breakfast in the restaurant, some really took advantage of this although how they could face it at some early hour (5.30?) was beyond me. In fact one couldn’t, the child who had been encouraged to eat their parent’s money’s worth of coco pops was rather ill on the steps of the transfer bus. Upsetting for the child and pretty unpleasant for the rest of us. But still, they got their money’s worth.

I’d rather have the extra 15-20 minutes in bed and possibly take a pre wrapped pastry but other than that I wouldn’t be tempted to go into the restaurant.

In addition, it's not like airports are renowned for providing nice, reasonably priced food and guaranteed time to eat it. Not that you'd know that from reading some of the less sensible contributions in this thread!

But hopefully it's been useful anyway. You could always contact the resort directly and ask if they provide any options for this situation.

My teens curse us for the 2am wake up call when we have an early flight but doesn’t stop them shovelling a Burger King in their mouths at 5am as soon as we’re through security!

Not sure it’s on a par with missing one third of a 3 course meal. More like paying for a 3 course meal with coffee and mints at the end and there being no mints 🤣
