Barcelona was a big disappointment to me,couldn't see or feel the charm that everyone went on about.

Seattle also...was expecting a fab place that was voted number one place to live a while ago.Just another big city..nothing special imo.

What cities did you find disappointing?

I really enjoyed Lyon aswell - I thought the rivers and cathederal were really lovely, bright and clean looking, spent some time in the English book shop and had lunch in a street just under the cathederal. Found the public transport there excellent aswell.

Milan!

bluefox · 13/02/2008 20:14

3Ddonut - had the misfortune to live there once - until I escaped. Had reason to go back for something recently and couldnt get back out quick enough!

Kewcumber · 13/02/2008 20:14

Milan is dul but then I didn;t expect anythign else, but Rome really disappointed me.

smurfgirl · 13/02/2008 20:15

Lisbon but that might of been the company.

Paris left me cold.

ivykaty44 · 13/02/2008 20:16

So I have mentioned all the places I do like but
Coventry has to be an awful place to visit with all that delightful concreate and such a sad looking city with an ugly modern cathederal

Kewcumber · 13/02/2008 20:16

Frankfurt however is teh dullest city on earth. Not that its pretending to be anything else I suppose.

TillyScoutsmum · 13/02/2008 20:21

Total chaos - you might be right about Naples - only went on a day trip whilst in Sorrento so probably didn't give it much of a chance

Felt intimidated by Cairo but definately glad I experienced it iyswim

hannahsaunt · 13/02/2008 20:23

Frankfurt can't be duller than Cologne - it was very disappointing. Glad to see that I haven't missed out on never having been to Paris but am off to Stockholm (hopefully) in May...

Fennel · 13/02/2008 20:24

Jakarta was deeply uninspiring.

RIELOVESBACARDI · 13/02/2008 20:25

love sorento

JossStick · 13/02/2008 20:25

I think Coventry cathedral is it's one saving grace.

Kewcumber · 13/02/2008 20:27

don;t listen to them Paris is Fab - a sunny September afternoon in the Rodin museum gardens.. blis.

However I can indeed confirm that Frnakfurt is significantly duller than Cologne.

Maveta · 13/02/2008 20:28

Agree with Dublin and Brighton, God was I disappointed by Brighton. Totally totally overrated. Barcelona disappointed me the first time but I totally loved it the second time. Ditto Madrid.

I like Amsterdam although I think more than 2 or 3 days and I´d be stumped for things to do.

Kewcumber · 13/02/2008 20:28

and to be fair to COventry it doesn;t feature much in "city break" brochures. Frankfurt (startlingly) does.

bigspender30 · 13/02/2008 20:29

Istanbul. Thought it would be this lovely romantic place but instead it was noisy, traffic was crazy and very polluted

jojosmaman · 13/02/2008 20:30

I love Paris but was disappointed with the shopping- London and Tokyo are much better. The food, vino and night life made up for it though

pooka · 13/02/2008 20:30

Dublin. Just didn't seem to grab me in any way whatsoever.

madame · 13/02/2008 20:30

Rome, dirty and polluted

Cappuccino · 13/02/2008 20:30

I loved Dublin

pooka · 13/02/2008 20:30

Not keen on Paris either.

Maveta · 13/02/2008 20:30

not been to Cologne but was just today talking to a girl from hamburg about how mind numbingly awful Frankfurt is.

Desiderata · 13/02/2008 20:32

Coventry is truly awful. It's a shame, because before WWII it was, and could have been, one of the nicest looking cities in England.

It fell foul of 50's and 60's architects, and without any redeeming geographical features, it's been left as the sad old sod of England.

I've been racking my brains ... I know there are places I've visited that have unsettled me, but nothing springs to mind except Birmingham.

And although Manchester is gorgeous in places, the approach to it by train is really grim.

brimfull · 13/02/2008 20:32

Yes Jakarta was a smelly shithole
