Barcelona was a big disappointment to me,couldn't see or feel the charm that everyone went on about.

Seattle also...was expecting a fab place that was voted number one place to live a while ago.Just another big city..nothing special imo.

What cities did you find disappointing?

Ha ha Choosyfloosy - thats me ! I was brought up in Brighton and I say now its where I'd ideally live (and actually the only place I can imagine living in other than where we are now).

TotalChaos · 13/02/2008 20:01

I thought Prague was gorgeous - but went in offseason, in March which was cold but at least it wasn't overrun. I reckon Florence and Venice would be much better out of season too.

Desiderata · 13/02/2008 20:02

Prague is lovely.

I can't think of anywhere I've really disliked. Some parts are always better than others.

3Ddonut · 13/02/2008 20:02

Wheelybug, just so you know, I live in the official worst place to live in the country, MIDDLESBROUGH, I shout, because I like it!!!

brimfull · 13/02/2008 20:02

Florence was wall to wall people when I was there (August) but can imagine it being fab off season.

tiredemma · 13/02/2008 20:06

ggirl- whereabouts in bham did you stay?

hairtwiddler · 13/02/2008 20:06

It seemed like a dull North American city, only with added Frenchness. This is what my friend found strange. I think I was just in a spectacularly bad mood and that clouded my judgement somewhat!

sideways · 13/02/2008 20:06

Miami

TillyScoutsmum · 13/02/2008 20:07

I was thinking Barcelona as soon as I saw the thread title... It was voted best city on one of these sky programmes that seemed to go on for hours. Such a disappointment

Not a big fan of Dublin either

I loved Prague and I am a Brummie so can't agree with you ggirl

Lyon is a bit of a shithole - but then it is twinned with Birmingham ! Naples also v.bad

TotalChaos · 13/02/2008 20:08

Naples - bit mindbending with noise/traffic/poverty etc - but also beautiful. an acquired taste I suspect.

bluefox · 13/02/2008 20:09

Sunderland

Mercy · 13/02/2008 20:09

Lisbon,Barcelona adn Auckland. Bruges is a bit disapointing but ok.

I love Amsterdam (and parts of Brussels) but that might be because we have friends who are natives or long term expat inhabitants of those 2 cities

tiredandgrumpy · 13/02/2008 20:09

Paris. Paris. Paris.

brimfull · 13/02/2008 20:10

I liked Amsterdam, Bruge and Brussells - didn't rate Prague very much though and prefered Antwerp.

In Brussells, we stayed a fair way out of the city center in Brussells and loved the water park and other green parks.

In Bruge satyed a little way out of town and did lots of cycling so I suppose saw more of the city - shrugs shoulders.

What is one womans poison is anothers delight

CoteDAzur · 13/02/2008 20:10

Seattle. Toronto. Milan. Santorini.

Geneva, Zurich, Lausanne. All Swiss cities, in fact. Bern is a bit nicer than the rest.

bluefox · 13/02/2008 20:12

Is Bruges really that crap? Ive wanted to go for ages. Had heard its lovely (like a mini Venice). Loved Amsterdam - cant wait to go back.

3Ddonut · 13/02/2008 20:12

bluefox, did you go to Sunderland for a 'break' hahahahahahahahahahahaHA!!!! 'tis a right royal shithole, although the empire has good shows on!!!!

JossStick · 13/02/2008 20:13

I loved Prague.

Most disappointing has to be Rome - and i'm really into archaeology etc. Lucky it was my honeymoon . But the unfriendly people and the pollution (and we lived in London at the time!) and the bloody traffic. And places like the colloseum etc. a bit dissapointing to be honest.

We did get to see the pope though (the real one - not the one we've got now).

Desiderata · 13/02/2008 20:13

No, Bruges is really lovely. Definitely worth a visit.
