Disappointing weather in Tenerife

My own fault for not researching it properly (even though I Trip Advisored every hotel and attraction to death!) but we are are off to Tenerife at the weekend and the forecast isn't great. It looks like it will be cooler than the UK next week.
It suits me fine but I know DH won't be happy as we usually go to Greece/Turkey/Croatia where it's very hot.
23°C will still feel warm won't it?! Hate spending a lot of money and not even getting the weather.

What weather app/website are you looking at? They’re often wrong … we went in Feb and the app said 18/19 …. turned out to be mid 20s

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/08/2022 07:59

Just looked and it says 28/29 next week … 22/23 at night

ApolloandDaphne · 05/08/2022 08:00

How hot does it need to be?

Where on the island are you going to? If you just write ‘Tenerife’ on a weather search it’ll give you the average temperature which includes El Teide - the mountain is freezing at all times of the year but presumably you’re not going to stay there.

Santa Cruz is showing as 25-27 and Costa Adeje 26-30 during the day next week, for example.

You need to write your specific town into the search, and I’d be surprised if the maximum next week will only be 23.

leccybill · 05/08/2022 08:12

We are going to Costa Adeje.
Accuweather is telling me this.

I remember a disappointing holiday in Tenerife for this reason, have avoided since

HappyAsASandboy · 05/08/2022 08:21

I think you have a dodgy weather app! It will almost certainly be baking hot in the Canaries in August, unless you're way up in the hills.

The Met Office has got 25/26 type temperatures for Costa Adeje next week. Surely it's sun more than heat that makes the weather on holiday - you want it to be warm enough to enjoy being outside, not warm enough that your organs start cooking!

Totally agree but DH is half Greek and likes it to be baking!

BBC agrees with your Weather Channel but Met Office is a bit warmer. Looks lovely 🙂

Costa Adeje will get warmer than that. I'd expect lower 20s to be the minimum temperatures, so not even at night does it get lower than that.

gogohmm · 05/08/2022 08:30

That's normal weather for the canaries. It's by a big ocean you know???

Your Accuweather, sorry!

Overthebow · 05/08/2022 08:31

It’s usually pretty hot in the Canaries in August, but like anywhere there could be a cooler or bad weather week. It could happen in Greece too. That’s the risk you take when booking a holiday in advance.

toomuchlaundry · 05/08/2022 08:36

If your DH is miserable about the weather maybe he should have researched the holiday. Also if you are happy with the temperature maybe it is time he compromised instead of always going somewhere baking hot

FurAndFeathers · 05/08/2022 08:37

Why is it on you to research and plan everything whilst your DH just gets to turn up and be unhappy with your choices because you can’t control the weather?
sounds pretty unhealthy

you’re happy with it. Fuck him and his grumpyness

Wartywart · 05/08/2022 08:40

I find you can ways add a few degrees to each forecast. I lived abroad in a popular holiday destination for some years and I can assure you that when the temperature online said 28 degrees, it was most definitely more like 35...

Redissus · 05/08/2022 08:40

I’d say probably no chance of it being 23 degrees in Tenerife in August. My forecasts show around 27/28. We went at Easter and it was 23 degrees then and the sun felt very strong. It’s a very different heat to the UK. I think you’ll find it is plenty hot enough and you were worrying about nothing. I hope so anyway. Have a wonderful holiday!

piefacedClique · 05/08/2022 08:52

I’m in Lanzarote…. It’s hot! Hotter than the apps suggest! Thank god for the breeze. We’ve been staying out of the midday sun for fear of frying!

Ah, we just take turns each year to research and choose the destination. Nothing sinister.

Canaries is closer to the equator than Greece or Turkey so even if the air temperature is cooler but the sun will feel hotter on you

Mrsjayy · 05/08/2022 09:28

It will feel warm just don't go to the North of the island it is cooler. Also I don't fi t acute weather particularly accurate its always a few degrees out.

WireSkills · 05/08/2022 11:42

I can't imagine the temperature being that low in August either. Don't worry about it in advance - there's nothing you can do about it anyway!

Your DH would have loved the time we went to Gran Canaria. We went in October because I don't really like being too hot on holiday - mid 20's is perfect for me.

We ended up being there in the middle of a "clima" and it was 42 degrees!

As PP have said, although it's not a big island there is drastic differences around it. Adeje will be the hottest place on the island.

If you go up the cable car on Teide take a jumper! It's likely to be very chilly up there!

XelaM · 05/08/2022 15:52

We went in August two years ago (towards the mid/end of August though) and it wasn't baking hot. It was definitely sunny, but not roasting. We are in Italy now (Bibione) and it's definitely much hotter here than it was in Tenerife. Sorry. We still had a great pool/beach holiday though, although I don't like the black sand.

Twiglets1 · 05/08/2022 16:09

The Canaries are often a bit breezy so it feels cooler. But you will get loads of sun don’t worry. Will be a lovely temperature in August
