Disappointing weather in Tenerife

My own fault for not researching it properly (even though I Trip Advisored every hotel and attraction to death!) but we are are off to Tenerife at the weekend and the forecast isn't great. It looks like it will be cooler than the UK next week.
It suits me fine but I know DH won't be happy as we usually go to Greece/Turkey/Croatia where it's very hot.
23°C will still feel warm won't it?! Hate spending a lot of money and not even getting the weather.

We are in exactly that area of Tenerife right now and though it was cloudy this morning it's been baking the last few days: it's all burnt off now and the sun is up and the sky is beautiful and blue. Definitely not cold 👍

Judging by the last post I'm hopeful that the weather has improved for you. I went to the Costa Brava in July many moons ago and it rained for 5 days and we were there only 7 😑. I no longer trust the Costa Brava.

rookiemere · 10/08/2022 15:08

@MiniCooperLover - I'm trying to play guess the hotel. Is it the Costa Adeje Gran ?

Was that 2014 by any chance? We were there then and it rained a fair bit.

I am just looking to book somewhere in the Canaries for next summer but having doubts now. Is Tenerife a special case?

leccybill · 10/08/2022 16:33

The sun has burnt through now, at about 2pm. Hope it lasts! Thanks for the reassurances!

Useful thread for me as after swelting in the Med for our hols a couple of weeks ago I may well go for the Canaries next summer.

Have fun OP. It is extremely hot where I am in the UK for the next few day 30-35 degrees but its going to be too hot to do anything, no pool or sea to dip in and the garden is knackered

rookiemere · 10/08/2022 16:50

@Baggyeye -I actively avoid going abroad in the summer holidays now - it's just too darned hot.

Tenerife in October is perfect for us - mid twenties most days.

Baggyeye · 10/08/2022 16:56

@rookiemere thanks for the tip. I can't wait until we aren't tied to school holidays anymore as June or later Sept tend to be ideal temps for our tastes in the Med and mid summer is roasting hot!

No they are all similar. Fuertaventura a bit windier but otherwise all a little cooler than the med in summer. Not cold though! I've been to Tenerife in August many times and it's perfect for me.
They are all year round destination, in winter you would want a heated pool but you can still get warm sunny days in January.
My favourite is Lanzarote in April.

It does feel like a waste of money when there’s great weather at home. Hope you get to enjoy the holiday though.

BunsyGirl · 10/08/2022 18:49

Well I for one am looking forward to proper air con and a pool when I go to Tenerife in a couple of weeks time. Sweltering at home and I am bloody sick of it!

NCHammer2022 · 10/08/2022 18:51

Remember that’s the shade temperature, the sun in Tenerife feels strong. Looks lovely to me!

If I could stay in a UK hotel with a huge pool across the road from the beach I might agree. Even if there was such a place you couldn't book it knowing the weather would be hot.
Ive had 3 short UK breaks this year and managed to dodge the hot sunny weather each time. Spent enough money for two weeks abroad 5*.
2021 was the same.

Slight shift of topic- I’m due to arrive in Tenerife on Friday. How was the airport?

We landed at 9pm so perhaps not peak time but it was really well organised and we were through passport control and bag collection in about 30 minutes.

This was last night.

I thought the weather today was good tbh. Yes there was a bit of cloud but it was still really warm. Even with factor 30 on I already have a nice tan.

Horrible beaches, cold sea, no AI or big hotel pools, rubbish food, no usual gift shops and restaurants along the beach like in real holiday places (we couldn't even buy sunscreen along the beach on our holiday to Bornemouth last year let alone an umbrella) and much much more expensive! UK beach holidays can't be compared to proper holidays abroad.

WineNoMore20 · 11/08/2022 08:24

That’s good , we’re arriving at a similar time.

I agree about big hotel pools and reliability of the weather and maybe it didn’t have the facilities you wanted, but do you really think the UK has horrible beaches? I’ve never been to Bournemouth, maybe that’s awful, but I spent yesterday on a 6 mile long blue flag fine sandy beach that shits all over Tenerife’s beaches. And could have chosen about 8 others to go to within an hour’s radius.

welshpolarbear · 11/08/2022 10:06

I agree re the beaches I’m the uk, there are countless stunning ones between 5 miles and 50 miles from me in a massive radius. Always a quiet one to be found with local knowledge too.

Hate to say it but terrible. Two passport control booths open and 15 UK flights landed in an hour so there was a 2 hour wait in a hot corridor with no staff so no clue what was happening. Very much felt like the third-class citizens that we are now!
That was on Saturday evening. Hope it's better for you.

South or North? We had a very quick and smooth arrival at South.

Wideawakeandconfused · 11/08/2022 10:57

We’ve been to Costa Adeje in December and had a heat wave! You can never be sure if the weather anywhere. A few years ago we were in Corfu for summer and had four days of rain. If you plan your holiday on it being hot every day, you’re bound to get disappointed at some point.

jammiewhammie65 · 11/08/2022 11:05

Oh didums not hot enough for him. Bless him

I guess we've been very lucky for the last twenty years then.
