Tortington · 23/03/2007 21:44

rock on mrs grunby!

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:44

I agree with the "space" issue, but still think its people choice what car they drive.

Geneva just had a motorshow & dh took the dc to have a gawp at all the shiny stuff. Dh spoke to someone promoting eco-friendly (if there is such a thing) cars & came home with some incredible statistic... something about every car emitting roughly about 250g of CO2 per km.

oh yeah, everything is people's choice.

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:47

so all cars are equal then, reading between the lines

Lizzylou · 23/03/2007 21:47

You can get 4wd Estate cars

Our roads/towns/housing estates/car parks simply are not made for these hulking great brutes.

Tortington · 23/03/2007 21:48

on the space issue i looked at estates and people carriers as well as my car. the renault espace was a contender but the boot space with all 7 seats up was smaller than my car.

i wasn't only chosing on the basis of space though. for me crash test results were vital too.

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:49

So is the issue 4 x4 or "which" 4 x 4 you have? so its fuck all to do with the emissions, but more about the space they take up?

edam · 23/03/2007 21:50

According to Euro NCAP crash tests, Volvo XC90 is not good for pedestrians, tbh. "The bumper and bonnet leading edge were unforgiving. But the top of the bonnet protected children?s and adult?s heads to give the XC90 a two-star rating. Volvo needs to work harder to improve pedestrian safety." (Two stars out of four for pedestrian safety).

You can get some lovely trailers these days...not sure whether any of them are designer, though

we all have differnt needs, for me it was about pulling power, and then about its use in heavy snow and ice, nowt to do with safety or space for me.

pointydog · 23/03/2007 21:51

where's blueglass? You stirrer

pointydog · 23/03/2007 21:52

"pulling power"

typical

Spidermama · 23/03/2007 21:52

I snarl at 4x4 drivers because I believe that most of them (except the proper rural blah blahs) are careless, gas guzzling, status craving, dangerous drivers. They say they feel safe. Those of us on the outside feel less safe.

The amnount of fuel they use, the amount of road space the take up ... it's greedy and unacceptable.

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:52

yeah shes posted and ran do you think she deliberately started this

my dog is barking outside at a rabbit and won't come in. i can't be fecked to go and get her in all the mud and blackness outside. i'm glad for this thread it had distracted me from my nightmare pet.

sauce · 23/03/2007 21:53

Yeah, I like Volvos too, being something of a nervous driver. but when I see all the mums driving up in these massive 4X4s (the Porsche Cayenne irritates me in particular), I want to give them a good shake. What is the point? Is it some kind of female willy-waving contest?

edam · 23/03/2007 21:54

Well, that's the point Lily, 'nowt to do with safety'. Gee thanks, tell that to the children who are much more likely to be killed if they are hit by a 4x4 than if they are hit by a normal car.
