4x4 do you own one and do you get hostilities from other drivers

I had a Grand Cherokee Jeep for 3 years and have had the Volvo XC90 for the past year. Have never had any abuse.

I have never abused a 4x4 driver but if my bloody neighbour keeps parking his great hulking thing outside our house I may kill him. It blocks light and ruins my view. It is ugly. It is environmentally unfriendly. He is a single man living in London. Why, why why???

No I live in the country, and drive with care and respect. I do not get any moare abuse than I did when I drove a sports car. That said, if I drove the middle of London, I would expect some abuse.

Planting trees to balance your footprint is questionnable. Even if it were possible it does not effect the fact that you have financially supported a company and therefore encouraged them to make more environmentally unfriendly cars. You may have added to social pressure for others to follow suit.

If you hit a child you are more likely to kill them.

If you park outsude your neighbou's terraced house you will block their light and cause them to hate you

Oh feck off, I will tell you why, I live very high up where I would otherwise get cut off in the middle of winter, I have horses and pull a trailor, and because I love it.

Oh good point dp is a heating engineer who fits energy eficient boilers, I think that justifies my decision to have a 4 x 4

reasons for buying my 4x4 - space and crash test results, bearing in mind the journeys i do and the ages of my children.
i will continue to need the space for a couple of years at least. i will then look for a smaller car but will still have crash test results as my key criterion for the decision.

It was not an unsupported statement. The UK Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) has produced a study that showed that road deaths are on the increase as a result of the growing popularity of 4x4s. Amongst other things it showed that in a collision between a 4x4 and a small car, the occupants of the small car are 12 times more likely to be killed than if the collision was with another small car.

Oh god, this is SO one of my major bugbears in life. Can feel a the Rant of the Century coming on but won't bore you all. Suffice to say that I live on the Cheshire plain and am sick to fecking death of the amount of 4x4s I see riding roughshod through the rough terrain . And as for the argument re: space...BUY AN ESTATE CAR OR A PEOPLE CARRIER! But they're not status symbols, are they now?!
