I also enjoy winding down my window as I pass someone driving one, applying my hand to forehead, making a vigorous pumping action and sneering 'You wanker'

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 22:36

lol at moondog! you should visit my children's school on monday morning - you could roam up and down outside vandalising all the (illegally parked) 4x4's that the mummy's have driven their children to school in (from their homes 0.5 miles down the road)!!

also please feel free to make gestures as i do feel a bit glum on a monday morning and could do with a giggle..

edam · 23/03/2007 22:50

Deep, I've just looked up the current W? board, and can't see any CEOs in there. Am very puzzled - there aren't many people on the W? board anyway and certainly none of them are the heads of the Big Four high street banks or major supermarkets or anything!

Do you mean the member's council? Anyone with a subscription can stand for that, doesn't mean you run the place.

edam · 23/03/2007 22:53

NHBC is deffo NOT independent of the industry, btw.

Which? is independent - I don't work there any more so have no particular brief for them but it winds me up when someone makes a careless allegation about an organisation that I value. They don't have any shareholders or owners or big banks to answer to. They have very thorough processes and cross-checking to make sure what they do and what they say is scrupulously fair. They are only human so occasionally small mistakes will be made, but one thing they really are is independent.

Tortington · 23/03/2007 22:59

edam stop being sensible this instant.

crystalpony · 23/03/2007 23:02

I've noticed you don't tend to be let out at junctions much and also I'm rarely acknowledged when I give way to others as a matter of courtesy - but thats probably because I'm a woman driving a top of the range 4 x4

edam · 23/03/2007 23:08

Custy, someone's dissed my work buddies! Grrr. Hate it when someone just casts ludicrous aspersions with no evidence. I happen to know that bloody organisation and the one thing it is is inde-bloody-pendent.

edam · 23/03/2007 23:09

and I don't know what she's on about with her dark hints of court cases, you can look up the Which? board on the sodding internet.

Rhubarb · 23/03/2007 23:13

Boco · 23/03/2007 23:18

hey rhubarb, is this you?

Cloudhopper · 23/03/2007 23:20

The issue for me is that other drivers of large vehicles usually adopt a defensive driving style - buses, vans etc. But many 4x4 drivers act as though they are in a normal sized car, barging through gaps that are too small.

Of course any individual driver can protest "But I don't do that", but, in my experience only of course, many don't drive considerately enough.

And the knowledge that they drive hazardously and in a car that's even more of a lethal weapon than normal is just enough to irritate the life out of me. I just get the feeling that the recklessness is encouraged because they know that if there is a crash "I'm alright Jack".

But I do live in a wealthy ,congested, urban place, and 4x4s are definitely surplus to requirements, other than to protect ones own little darlings at the expense of others.

handlemecarefully · 23/03/2007 23:23

Just popped in to tell artichoketagine that actually the Volvo XC90 scores 2 on pedestrian safety (all cars graded 1-3) which is in line with most family cars and a good deal better than many.

So you can't generalise, but people do for their own reasons I suppose.

handlemecarefully · 23/03/2007 23:26

Ah just read rest of thread and see that Edam has already mentioned that..

caterpiller · 23/03/2007 23:41

If it's the size issue, why are 4x4s singled out? People carriers are bigger.

I think it's just another example of inverted snobbery for most people.

FirstAtForty · 23/03/2007 23:46

Surely it doesn't matter how good a driver you are, as a 4x4 driver you can still be involved in damaging accidents, even if they aren't your fault?

Rhubarb · 23/03/2007 23:50

I try to run over peopmes and score points, we have a sciore chart

Rhubarb · 23/03/2007 23:52
