I had a Grand Cherokee Jeep for 3 years and have had the Volvo XC90 for the past year. Have never had any abuse.

ArtichokeTagine · 23/03/2007 21:08

I have never abused a 4x4 driver but if my bloody neighbour keeps parking his great hulking thing outside our house I may kill him. It blocks light and ruins my view. It is ugly. It is environmentally unfriendly. He is a single man living in London. Why, why why???

Sorry - I know I am prbably not making friends here. I'll get my coat.

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:15

No I live in the country, and drive with care and respect. I do not get any moare abuse than I did when I drove a sports car. That said, if I drove the middle of London, I would expect some abuse.

ScoobyDooooo · 23/03/2007 21:15

Ha ha starting a thread like this your asking for it

sauce · 23/03/2007 21:16

Get rid of it. Serious threat to your peace of mind & to the environment.

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:18

Oh no threat to my peace of mind thanks, and as regards to the environment, I have land and plant trees which balance my Carbon footprint.

sauce · 23/03/2007 21:19

oh carbon footprint my fanny. why do you need the great, hulking thing?

ArtichokeTagine · 23/03/2007 21:23

Planting trees to balance your footprint is questionnable. Even if it were possible it does not effect the fact that you have financially supported a company and therefore encouraged them to make more environmentally unfriendly cars. You may have added to social pressure for others to follow suit.

If you hit a child you are more likely to kill them.

If you park outsude your neighbou's terraced house you will block their light and cause them to hate you

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:23

Oh feck off, I will tell you why, I live very high up where I would otherwise get cut off in the middle of winter, I have horses and pull a trailor, and because I love it.

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:24

Although the tree comments were true they where a little glib, I love my 4 x 4 and have no problems sleeping at night thanks

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 21:25

Oh and I didnt financially support the company, its a company car! does that piss you off even more?

Oh good point dp is a heating engineer who fits energy eficient boilers, I think that justifies my decision to have a 4 x 4

pollypeachum · 23/03/2007 21:27

reasons for buying my 4x4 - space and crash test results, bearing in mind the journeys i do and the ages of my children.
i will continue to need the space for a couple of years at least. i will then look for a smaller car but will still have crash test results as my key criterion for the decision.

Tortington · 23/03/2007 21:28

It was not an unsupported statement. The UK Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) has produced a study that showed that road deaths are on the increase as a result of the growing popularity of 4x4s. Amongst other things it showed that in a collision between a 4x4 and a small car, the occupants of the small car are 12 times more likely to be killed than if the collision was with another small car.

Tortington · 23/03/2007 21:34

by pointing out something thats worse - is not an argument for the grossness that is 4x4s

Oh god, this is SO one of my major bugbears in life. Can feel a the Rant of the Century coming on but won't bore you all. Suffice to say that I live on the Cheshire plain and am sick to fecking death of the amount of 4x4s I see riding roughshod through the rough terrain . And as for the argument re: space...BUY AN ESTATE CAR OR A PEOPLE CARRIER! But they're not status symbols, are they now?!
