OK where shall the Peaheads go this summer?

I'm not feeling inspired. I think the February rain and mud has just sucked the life out of me.

Four children, 9,6,3 and 1.5. Not France or Greece (for reasons which I won't go into). Would love to go to the US but not Cape Cod. Either hotel or Villa/rental. Needs to involve wonderful beaches or lakes, swimming pool unless on top of beach, things to do around and about, relatively kid friendly, and a place that is interesting in its own right. Guaranteed hot but not super-boiling. Europe or US/Canada. Buggyable. Assume a healthy budget.

Inspire me please?!

PPH here's a bit of advice. Go to the travel agent. Tell them what you want. Pay them the money. Turn up at the airport.

See how easy was that??

JanH · 01/03/2007 23:06

How about Fire Island (Look, not too late for summer 2006 )

No cars - hence the little red flyer wagon on the logo - and not sticky because right on the water. Lovely for kids but maybe a bit boring for you?

littlemissbossy · 01/03/2007 23:07

JanH are you a travel agent or do you just travel a lot?

JanH · 01/03/2007 23:13

Neither!

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:17

ahhhh but littlemissbossy then I wouldn't be able to spend hours on tripadvisor!

and they'd rent me a crappy villa with crappy beds

I do usually book through a travel agent though, honest. I'm a huge fan of elegant resorts

jan isn't fireisland the biggest gay pickup joint within 100 miles of NYC?

Or am I getting confused with somewhere else?

How far did you want to go? What about Bahamas?

JanH · 01/03/2007 23:21

It was 25 years ago, pph, I don't know now, but it was/is also a hugely popular family place!

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:21

I don't KNOW!
Aurghghghgh I'm so uninspired.
I want to be hot, but not too hot.
I'm happy to go far, but not too far.
I'd like to go to Greece or Cape Cod but I can't go to Greece or Cape Cod.
I don't want to go to a "winter" holiday place in the summer (Caribbean, Florida, North Africa etc etc)

I'm a Royal Pain in the Arse.

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:22

Well I think it is now a hugely popular not-at-all-family place

crystalpony · 01/03/2007 23:23

Amalfi coast?

JanH · 01/03/2007 23:24

wiki says it's just Fire Island Pines - Fire Island itself is 30 miles long so you could prob avoid them if desired

Soapbox · 01/03/2007 23:31

italy

NotanOtter · 01/03/2007 23:31

HOW ABOUT???

this lovely house

on this fabbo beach????

brimfull · 01/03/2007 23:41

BERMUDA !
short flight only 5-6 hrs
not too hot but hot enough
loads to do

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:41

because it is in cornwall. full of people that I would pay not to see on holiday (ie every mother from school). and it will rain. and the food will be english. and overpriced. and the traffic will be terrible. and I will be depressed. and my house is much nicer and I'll wonder what the hell I'm doing there and not swimming in my pool at home.

other than that, it looks fine notanotter!

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:42

but ggirl I've just looked up bermuda and apparently it is hurricane season there.

in fact it said "most hurricanes hit bermuda in August and September"

slightly put me off

NotanOtter · 01/03/2007 23:44

Can i stay in your orangery?

brimfull · 01/03/2007 23:45

but hurricanes are such fun

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:45

elba looks interesting soapy, I don't know exactly how to fit 6 of us into 2 interconnecting rooms though, which is slightly putting me off hotels.
I suppose us and baby in one, 3 children in the other. sounds a bit squashy

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:47

no you can't notanotter, the tractor and the guinea pigs are already in residence. I wouldn't really describe it as habitable.

When it is turned into a huge party room, cinema, kitchen, cloakroom and 2 bed flat, however, you will be most welcome

Marina · 01/03/2007 23:48

I said Corsica!
The lovely people at Corsican Places will find the peahead dynasty the perfect bolthole. I know they rented us a romantic semi-cave with black beetles for our honeymoon but they also do luxe properties too and have a toe in the door of the island's best hotels
Pph, you'd have to be losing the will to live not to adore Calvi
If one Marina can't go there this summer it would give me some comfort to think of another...and there is Marina di Davia along the coast...
