OK where shall the Peaheads go this summer?

I'm not feeling inspired. I think the February rain and mud has just sucked the life out of me.

Four children, 9,6,3 and 1.5. Not France or Greece (for reasons which I won't go into). Would love to go to the US but not Cape Cod. Either hotel or Villa/rental. Needs to involve wonderful beaches or lakes, swimming pool unless on top of beach, things to do around and about, relatively kid friendly, and a place that is interesting in its own right. Guaranteed hot but not super-boiling. Europe or US/Canada. Buggyable. Assume a healthy budget.

Inspire me please?!

Singapore?!?!

very child friendly - we went with dd2 who was almost 2 at the time.

Can stay at Sentosa Island... then do Zoo, lots of swimming, fab shopping for you.

overnight flight from the UK - our dd1 slept all the way.

They have one of those bloody coy websites where you have to speak to them or look at a brochure though

brimfull · 01/03/2007 23:49

what about east coast of canada,PEI and other islands, have you done that area?

Soapbox · 01/03/2007 23:49

Friends of ours did Vancouver last summer and stayed at their place in Whistler which they said was fabulous in the summer - completely different to when they ski.

They seemed to have a wonderful time, but it does depend on whether you can hack the plane journey.

I thought Elba looked fab too - maybe they have some family rooms - or a suite connected to a twin or something?

It's a very off the wall suggestion, but how about a lovely villa on the Isle of Wight?

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:50

I've been meandering all over their site marina, and haven't found a villa with availability yet!
But will keep looking. Quite like the idea of Sicily but my nanny has just married a sicilian and will be going there for her first summer as an Italian Wife and I don't want her to think we are stalking her. Or for her family in law to think they have to entertain us...

Soapbox · 01/03/2007 23:51

Or one of the Channel Islands?

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:51

no marina you can do "quick price and availability check" and I've only found one single week in August (and not one of the ones I want!)

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:53

no I don't do isle of wight, cornwall, norfolk or the channel islands. sorry. I can't help it, I'm greek, if I'm on a beach I have to be guaranteed to be in a swimsuit swimming in a warm sea and that pretty much cancels all of them out.

I'd rather go to any of those places in eg April where you don't expect anything of the weather but you may be lucky and have some lovely days, if that makes sense. But NOT august!

Marina · 01/03/2007 23:53

Zut, merde, sorry principessa. Bit naive of me to think there was going to be much available in August, I guess

PrincessPeaHead · 01/03/2007 23:54

vancouver.

I SHOULD go and see my brother.

OK, maybe I'll look at Vancouver...

corsica avail

late July avail

late July/early aug avail

late July early aug

all July and aug, with private beach!

pricey but nice!

Marina · 02/03/2007 00:07

I take issue with Porto Vecchio being the best part of the island though - it is all lovely apart from the mosquitoey flat eastern coast...

NotanOtter · 02/03/2007 00:08

good thinking pph

NorksDrift · 02/03/2007 00:10

How about here which seems to be still available on 14th July?

JanH · 02/03/2007 00:28

What about Lazio coast?

Only available from Sat 25/8 though so too late, prob? And a bit rocky!

Andalucia? (Sounds classier than Costa del Sol )

JanH · 02/03/2007 00:32

Mauritius?

tinpot · 02/03/2007 03:11

Anywhere in the SE of USA will be very, very hot and too humid to move around IMHO (not much different to Florida). South Carolina is the most humid place I ever visited! Having lived in North Carolina through the summer I have no idea why Brits visit Southern USA in the summer months (would rather not go anywhere than walk around Florida theme parks in July - not that I think you are wanting to go there Peahead). Maybe Virginia Beach which is further north will be nicer? Ditto humidity in Outer Banks, NC.

VictorVictoria · 02/03/2007 09:23

What about the Bahamas - not Nassau (yuk although my in laws live in Lyford Cay which is bearable) but on eof the outer Islands - Harbour Island or the Exumas? V good new Four Seasons in the Exumas? Weather will be good, direct flights with BA (5 hour time change)

I know what you mean about 18 months being the worst age to travel. Have taken DS to the Bahamas 3 times - just come back from the last one her is now 20 months. Hell on earth.......

aol · 02/03/2007 09:26

Mauritius is wonderful for vegging/eating/being pampered. Grim flight though.

Blu · 02/03/2007 16:48

That is one of the most beautiful parts of Mauritius, imo.
Very good restauarants nearby.
Option to walk in the mountains (hard to find ut how to do..I could help!)
Interesting visits to temples, markets, differnt parts of the island, but otherwise no huge tourist-orientated attractions, iyswim. And the cooler part of the year for them.

Nova Scotia?

Mozambique?

Blu · 02/03/2007 16:49

Antigua?

Whoooosh · 02/03/2007 16:49

Corsica or Sardinia???????

Whoooosh · 02/03/2007 16:51

Have a look at this company

Blu · 02/03/2007 16:53

We loved Sardinia.
Went to the SW, less galmourous, more wild and less developed than Costa Smerelda.

Would be ever so hot in August, though, I think?

Blu · 02/03/2007 16:56

Villa Adi on that site loks fabulous, Whoosh.

Available in August, but obviously the price is too shocking to show on the site!
