For those whose DC have submitted their UCAS application without having yet taken the A-level (or equivalent) exams…

How are your DC getting on with hearing back from the universities?

Has anyone received an offer from St Andres for Art History this is DD's preference but we are still waiting. She has offers from Edinburgh & Manchester.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/03/2026 17:57

@CautiousLurker2 i have been playing it fairly cool, but then I saw how many shifts DS had put down for in the Easter holidays and I properly lost my rag. I said a few things I shouldn’t have done about his prelim (mocks) grades which I instantly regretted. Just under 6 weeks to go here. Final coursework is being submitted. I know he works hard and is motivated, but with only two weeks of school left (he’ll finish up at Easter), he is sick to the back teeth of school and earning money and seeing his friends is a much bigger draw. I’ve told him if he can’t lose some shifts then it’s time with his friends he will need to sacrifice.

CautiousLurker2 · 20/03/2026 18:39

Oh @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo that’s so hard as he sounds really responsible if he’s working too. But I would have lost it as well - am guessing he was thinking of the spending money for uni? I think mine seems to understand the social stuff [except seeing his GF 🤣] is on hold until the exams are done. Mine doesn’t get any study leave except on the day of exams. They have to be in class right to last exam in June. Was surprised but think it might not be a bad thing if they have a teacher breathing down their neck as it takes the pressure off me.

We’ve just done the firm/insure thing on UCAS. It seems very ‘real’ now…

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/03/2026 18:59

He just likes earning money @CautiousLurker2 , he’s already saved up a good chunk for a month long holiday after exams. He’s got two weeks of school left, Easter holidays and then in for one or two days max and full study leave during the exam diet which starts at the end of April. He finishes mid/late May which is not long at all!

My DD still hasn't heard anything from Durham or Edinburgh for Economics. She has Exeter which she is happy with but I think she'd just like to know now.

Fabfabfab · 21/03/2026 08:40

Frustrating having to wait @Manifestsleep - hope she hears soon. Is Durham her first choice? I wonder how many people with offers have firmed at this point. My DC has a Durham offer for History but hasn't confirmed on UCAS yet. He's choosing between Durham and Bristol and Bristol is a grade lower but he would prefer Durham. Trying to decide whether to put Bristol (1 grade lower than PGs) or Exeter (3 grades lower than PGs) as insurance.

Manifestsleep · 21/03/2026 08:44

Fabfabfab Yes Durham would probably be the first choice. I think she has gone off Edinburgh as the course isn't ranked as highly and she likes the idea of a campus. She'd like to be able to firm her offer at Exeter but is holding out just in case.

mumonthehill · 22/03/2026 06:36

Reading offer day was really good. Lovely campus and ds really liked it. He also went and met the coaches for his sport first thing and felt positive on that as well.

Mediumred · 23/03/2026 13:12

Hiya, has anyone with York as an insurance been able to rank their accommodation choices yet?? DD said she wasn't able to log in yet but I just wondered if she’d made a mistake. Her firm choice is Durham but she was a bit off the offer grades in her recent mocks.

Giving up on hearing anything from LSE and King‘s. Has anyone heard from either for IR?

KCL is always later - my DD got her offer early April - only just in time to go to an offer holders day on 13th April. So don’t give up, she will hear in the next week or so. Can’t advise on LSE, though.

pinkdelight · 23/03/2026 22:47

Someone on Reddit 6th form sub got an LSE offer for IR & History today. Hope that bodes well and the wait won’t be too much longer.

DD got a rejection from LSE ages ago. Don’t give up hope.

she’s also waiting for Kings. It’ll prob be her first choice if she gets an offer from them, with Queen Mary as her insurance.

Hi all, and good luck to all waiting to hear from unis!
my son is in Y12 so i will be in your shoes next year.
i wanted to ask: it used to bethat if you had a qualification as, say, a lifeguard, you could get extra Ucas points. Is it still the case? Where do i find info about this? Any tips? Many thanks

Waiting on LSE here too, for Maths and Stats or Maths and Data Science…it’s been so long I can’t remember what course they applied for 😂.

maturemummy · 24/03/2026 11:54

You’d need to look at the website of each university your DC is thinking of applying to & have a good sift through course details and entry requirements.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/03/2026 12:59

DS is still waiting to hear one way or another from LSE. I think he applied there for Financial Mathematics.

lanadelgrey · 24/03/2026 16:44

DS’s mate got LSE economics a few weeks ago so was hoping to get news before Easter

The York accommodation portal isn’t open yet but it’s not come first served anyway so as long you apply before the deadline ( July sometime I think) you’re guaranteed to get some sort of accommodation. Make sure your DC doesn’t get too fixed on what accommodation they’d like though as may not get one of their higher choices.

EducatingRosemary · 24/03/2026 20:14

Off to Manchester offer holder day this week. Not been before - YP did the open day. They are using it to decide whether to choose Uni of Manchester or Uni of York as insurance. Already decided on firm.

Finally offer from Bristol Law ! Now some tough decisions to be made

CautiousLurker2 · 24/03/2026 22:09

@EducatingRosemary Enjoy the OHD - is it at the weekend or during the week? I can’t quite understand the midweek ones, given they are so close to exams now!

DS’s was last week - but the campus was full and DH said it was great to see it in action, rather than in the summer holidays. It’s impressive when in full swing.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/03/2026 22:20

Great news @iwonttaketheeasyroad. Where are the choices between? Has your dc got any more OHDs planned to help with the decision making?
