For those whose DC have submitted their UCAS application without having yet taken the A-level (or equivalent) exams…

How are your DC getting on with hearing back from the universities?

Has anyone heard from Bath - specifically Sociology. Thank you!

Dd just got a psychology offer this week from Bath. But I think they do them in batches and not unusual to hear late March or April

SilverBlue56 · 13/03/2026 11:39

My son has Bath offers.

They are historically late with it all but have said they are aiming for end of march if at all possible as this is now the UCAS advisory deadline.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/03/2026 16:13

DS has a Bath offer for Marhs and Stats. Amazingly it came through within a couple of weeks of his application going in last October

DD had an off for Sociology from Bath back in November. Hope you hear soon

Rejected from Bath for psychology this week. Predicted A*AA and strong PS. Think it was probably GCSE grades (6-8)

Anyone going to the Leeds OHD? My daughter is going with her friend. Beautiful day for it!

Hope they have an alternative and aren't too down. I mentioned previously that our school had so many Bath rejections. Their ( I mean Bath’s) loss!

Yes, thankfully she’s already found one she loves and likely wouldn’t have firmed or insured Bath anyway.

Anyone heard from Bristol yet? DS still on hold for law

DDs came through this morning! Hopefully good news for yours too

nutella8 · 15/03/2026 08:46

We went to the Durham OHD yesterday and had a really lovely experience. He came away even more conflicted though as he genuinely likes all of his offers and is now doing mental somersaults trying to compare them. He is just waiting to hear back from Imperial then it’s crunch time.

AuntyBulgaria · 15/03/2026 08:53

DS is still waiting for his final two - he is playing his cards very close to his chest and about where is wants to go. They only influence I am going to try and exert is if he gets an offer from UCL as I think his other offers would be better for him. We live a bus ride way from campus and ideally I want him to move away!

Did get an email from Birmingham saying that if you let them know if you've done an EPQ or grade 8 musical instrument or sport to county level then they would reduce his offer by a grade. Shame he ran for his county when he was 12 - so don't think that will count 😄

Congratulations to your DD!!! No news yet here, hopefully soon

maturemummy · 15/03/2026 16:04

DS received the same email from Birmingham. I rather felt that it smacked of desperation. I really don’t see how an EPQ etc better equips a prospective applicant.

We were there also- I think you were there for maths too? Should’ve met for a mumsnet coffee while they were in the talk!

Llangewydd57 · 15/03/2026 19:04

Well done on all the offers coming in last week. Just waiting on LSE…think they have given out all offers now so expecting a rejection but I wish they would just get on with it.

Yes! We’re planning on attending the St Andrews OHD 11th April in case you’re also there.

Where did you hear that from @Llangewydd57? The only people that we spoke to at the Warwick OHD yesterday who had heard from LSE had had a rejection.

No news yet for DS from them

No, unfortunately not. She didn’t apply there. Love St Andrews though, have fun!

DC’s friends.
What did your DC think of Warwick?

Satsuma55 · 16/03/2026 03:13

@nutella8 , hello. Does yours have an offer from St Andrews for maths? My DC hasn't heard back yet, and won't get on and firm/insure until all the offers are in.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/03/2026 17:36

Still waiting for PPE Warwick here. As much as I know they offer late, it’s annoying as it’ll be too late to go to this weekend’s OHD and the next one is just after exams start here in Scotland.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo, DS finally received his Warwick PPE offer last Thursday. Too late to sign up for last Saturday’s OHD but he’s now booked in for the one on the 29th April. Hopefully you’ve had good news too.

I'm pretty sure from when I was looking at Birmingham courses, the EPQ clause has always been in their entry requirements, and it's the same for several other unis. So it's probably just a helpful reminder rather than desperation. It's nice that some places take the extras into account in some way and lowered grades can be handy in this phase of figuring out what to firm/insure.

Yep Southampton do this and DS has a lower offer for a competitive course there as he got an A* in his EPQ

AuntyBulgaria · 16/03/2026 10:50

The email said that you only needed to get a B in your EPQ rather than the original A to get your reduced grade.

We’ve had the same email today too only, as he is on the spectrum so focusing on his A Levels alone is challenging enough, I kind of feel it is a bit discriminatory to those who for what ever reasons do not have the opportunity to do EPQs, learn an instrument and opted to step away from their sports after GCSEs to focus on exams - ie kids from less privileged backgrounds or SEN. Ironically until recently he has played cricket at club level since he was 7 (dad is coach) and plays the drums/piano (but we didn’t pressure for grade exams as our focus was on him enjoying it, not the pieces of paper). His tech college doesn’t do EPQs.

Strangely it has meant we are discarding their offer as other universities have invited him to an interview and offered the lower offer in response to meeting him, ie on a personal basis.
