Sorry to hear that. If it is any consolation, the majority of students I know of who are currently studying medicine were rejected from at least one place, often two and sometimes three places. Hopefully, interviews will come through soon for his other options and boost him up.

Thanks, he seems ok and to be fair it was his aspirational choice. 1 interview this week and 2 more waiting to hear back on.

He’s been offered an unconditional for his 5th choice but he’s decided he would take a gap year if he doesn’t get an offer, but fingers crossed it doesn’t get to that.

Congratulations to all those with interviews coming through and sorry to hear about those who got a rejection. (As you know we got a Manchester rejection). But……..just got an invite from Cardiff!! Not many dates to choose from so another pre Christmas interview. Need to really focus on the prep now.
Good luck to everyone still waiting. From other socials, it looks like Leeds, Notts, Liverpool and many others have not sent out any invites just yet, so hang in there.

Hello! I have been lurking and thought I ought to post as daughter revived her first interview invite today. Eek.

Congrats and whereabouts?!

We also got a Cardiff interview today, first one! Late Dec… time to get prepping.

Congrats to all who got interviews today and sorry for any rejections … it really is a hair-raising ride.

Great news and good to have time to prep. Glasgow interview only 8 days notice here! Oh well, good to get one done.

This week is looking very dynamic, well done to all who secured interviews and commiserations @Itsallstressstressstress for the Cambridge one! Hope your YP gets all 3 offers!

How do unconditional offers work, do you need to have achieved grades?

Congrats and whereabouts?!

It’s Oxford that came through today. Still waiting on Leeds, Sheffield and Birmingham.

Is there anyone’s dc who has no interviews at all?

Dn not heard a thing but disheartened after seeing people with lower stats getting hyms invites. Cant help thinking a rejection is on the way.

Heard nothing from Notts or Leeds ( or Keele but know they can take their time)

My YP doesn't have one yet. Trying to be patient.....

User060427 · 25/11/2025 08:49

Oxford aim for around 425 interviews and last year made 171 offers for that year's entrance and 2 deferred offers. So the odds are around 2.5 interviews per place.
Applicants are interviewed by two colleges - the one that they applied to and another which is randomly allocated. The number of individual interviews that each college does depends on the college - some do one, some do two. So the applicants can end up with different numbers of total interviews depending on the colleges. This has nothing to do with the quality of the applicant so don't second guess based on this.
interviews are more traditionally academic although some colleges do a more clinical medicine based interview too. As a previous poster said, you can't really prepare for them apart from practicing speaking your thoughts out loud. Think about interpreting graphs and data, clinical trials, setting up experiments, looking at objects and explaining them etc. Read through your personal statement and make sure you can talk about anything that is in it.
And you can't judge how well it has gone. So if you think it's been a disaster, it might well not have been. Most applicants think that at least one of the interviews didn't go well. Good luck!

MyGreyBiscuit · 25/11/2025 09:11

morning! wow - what a great set of outcomes for everyone!! Congratulations to all who've had an interview, and so sorry about the rejections.

DS still only has the one at St George's. Prepping for that now - if anyone has any advice (not tips!) from having done an online MMI, they'll be gratefully received.

Our friends have got all 4 replies already - Bristol on hold, and invites for Oxford, Cardiff and St George's. Truth be told, I'm not sure how I feel about that - very happy for them for sure, but worrying slightly I guess for DS. Talk me out of this!!

Sorry to hear he's not heard anything yet - does he know how his stats compare to those who've received invites to HYMS? I don't know much about how they calculate the scores....(also, I've not seen much on social media about HY invites yet, so might they just be rumours??). Fingers tightly crossed.

AlphaApple · 25/11/2025 10:42

Intel from my DD's 6th form cohort:

1 x rejection from Oxford (good but perhaps overly optimistic candidate)
1 x rejection from Plymouth (marginal candidate)
1 x invitation to interview from Cardiff (outstanding candidate)

@MyGreyBiscuit do we have Sheffield and Southampton in common? If yes, I'm afraid the wait will be long, as Sheffield sends invitations in December and Southampton in January? Then the wait for offers, ouch. I was hoping DD would get Exeter in Dec but she got an interview date in the 2nd half of January which is pretty much when Sheffield and Southampton start interviewing.

Btw Exeter confirmed yesterday in an MMI overview session that there will be 5 stations x 5 minutes each, and up to 4 questions per station. There will be a 'group' room and you dip in and out of that in your private interview session, which is 1-1.

hi @inae yes we have Sheffield and Southampton in common! so I'm 'happily' waiting! :) which was your 4th choice again?

Great to hear that Exeter's confirmed their MMI format - is it in person? St G's is asynchronous and online!! We thought it was in person (have I already mentioned this?!?!). So we're trying to get to grips with that whole thing. Only consolation is that everyone's in that same boat!

inae · 25/11/2025 18:19

Exeter is online.

UCL is the aspirational one for DD. It looks like the wait will be long for that one too 😅

N0Tfunny · 25/11/2025 18:49

Ds got an interview today for Glasgow 🙂

He’s 93rd per centile B1 for his non contextual applications and 99th per centile for the non contextual ones.

This is because each uni has slightly different criteria for what is contextual / WP.

Curlyshabtree · 25/11/2025 19:28

The waiting game is so stressful! DD got an interview at HYMS today. Still waiting for Leeds, Newcastle and Nottingham. Hang in there everyone!

Congrats. We are still waiting for HYMS but loosing hope as have applied for the 6y Programme

Also waiting for Nottingham and Leeds 6y

Not wonderfully confident to be honest

rockstuckhardplace · 25/11/2025 21:57

Hi all. My DD got her first interview invitation today, for Leicester. Offering the December dates only. There is a second interview window in January. Her stats are 999999988 achieved, AAA predicted, 1940 B3.

Still waiting on Sheffield, Liverpool, Dundee, none of whom have sent interview invitations to my knowledge.

Intel from DD's 6th form (state) where there is a relatively high number of aspiring medics this year (7 v the usual 1 or 2, and mostly male): one Oxford interview (high achiever), one BSMS interview (poss contextual as young carer).

bluefineliner · 26/11/2025 06:31

@rockstuckhardplace well done on the Leicester interview!

@Curlyshabtree , @N0Tfunny , @inae congrats on the offers too!

The waiting is awful, especially when you haven't heard from any. I think we need to console ourselves that is really is no news is good news as all the unis make contact at such different times. I am hoping we hear from Leeds this week but since DD getting one interview things have destressed a bit for now. Just interview prep to worry about instead 😂.

At DDs school so far,
2 Exeter interviews
1 Sunderland
1 Cardiff
1 Newcastle (DD)

1 Cambridge rejection (too low Ucat)

There are around 15 med/dent/vet applicants so not much response for any of them so far.

W0tnow · 26/11/2025 07:33

Stopping by to say good luck to all. I have a second year medic at Exeter. Loving it, and is currently doing her tour of duty in Cornwall. Absolutely loves it there and would stay for the rest of her degree if she could.

MyGreyBiscuit · 26/11/2025 08:13

morning! hope we all had good sleeps whilst awaiting!! (that plus menopause...omg).

at our school, I think there are about 13 med/dent/vet applicants. I don't really recall who's been offered where, but I think there's 1 Oxford, a few of them at St George's, another Scottish (apologies, I don't remember which!), and Exeter and Cardiff. But many are still awaiting the others.

Good morning,

When I asked my daughter, she told me not to ask who has received interview invites from which universities…
