Hi2025 · 26/11/2025 10:15

Good morning,

When I asked my daughter, she told me not to ask who has received interview invites from which universities…
😂

same here!! 😂

MyGreyBiscuit · 26/11/2025 10:37

same here!! 😂

And here, my son says it doesn't matter what they've got!

Still waiting to hear back from 2..... the wait doesn't get easier but then after interviews there will be the wait to see if they get an offer. At this rate I am going to age 40 years in a few months!

which are the schools you've applied to? Ours was St George's (interview next week), Sheffield, Southampton and Barts.

Thefatbutteredpig · 26/11/2025 12:58

So happy to report that my dn has an interview at HYMS. No news from other choices but great feeling to get one interview in the bag :)

catty29 · 26/11/2025 13:01

In the same boat here - have not heard from anyone yet apart form 5th choice at Bristol(Sheffield, HYMS, Birmingham and Southampton). Several at DD's school applying to HYMS (all with pretty high UCAT and excellent grades) and no one has heard!

Dd2’s friends have had interviews invites from Cardiff -2, Liverpool-1, UCL - 1.
Dd2 is not applying for medicine, so glad that the children are getting interviews before Christmas. Remember my eldest doing three interviews in a week before Christmas and she had a really relaxing Christmas break !

catty29 · 26/11/2025 13:16

@MyGreyBiscuit and @inae Sheffield and Southampton here too!! Thankyou for info re the timings - long wait but feeling a bit better about not hearing anything yet...nail-biting isn't it?

yes I hope we're right about the timelines though! Is Birmingham usually later @catty29 ?

catty29 · 26/11/2025 13:34

@MyGreyBiscuit not sure about Birmingham! Trying to be all chill and failing madly (although it's great having this place so I can quietly freak out on here and then appear all grown up and calm for DD). Panicking slightly that HYMS has been sending out interview offers since last week and we've heard nothing...

what are your daughter's stats? I don't know about HYMS and how they shortlist!

2110 ucat SJB 1 A +2 x A star (and 10 GCSES 8+9) but think it's a really popular one this year...

fingers crossed you'll get an invite soon! heard elsewhere on social media that some places seem to be random, others seem to start from highest UCAT onwards. I think given that this year there's 41000 UCAT sitters (10% increase) and apparently only 5% increase in spaces, it'll be even more competitive this year... :(

Ah thankyou. And I think you're right. On paper she should be fine and no matter how carefully you try and judge the stats etc... when applying there are all sorts of unknowns so we'll just wait and see. She's actually far more calm than I am - if no offers she'll take a year off and try again (or become a singer apparently...)

So , we have been panicking since interviews came out on Friday.

Fully prepped for a rejection ( applied for gateway 6y) and the invite arrived this morning

HYMS instagram says that they are still processing and its going to take a few days yet.

Your dc stats are amazing , hang on in there

I'll be watching your DN's progress as my DD has decided Keele is her favourite now. I know they say not to get keen on a med school until you've got your UCAT score, but with Keele only weighting UCAT 25% I don't think it is an unrealistic one to be keen on if ou think you can nail the persnal statement - is it the 6 yr course they have applied for there? I know it is a long old wait for them though, as they have all those statements to score! Makes me wonder why they stick with that method of selecting students.

I had a funny situation with Keele, met their admissions director at the open day, he gave a talk but we also spoke to him directly a bit before and after the talk. Then the next day back home and while scrolling though facebook I saw a comment in a med school application group by a guy whose name looked familiar, I clicked on the photo and it was him! And then looking through past comments I had actually had an interaction with him! About the merits of different volunteering roles - and I was telling him what med schools like!! I felt so embarrassed! Just glad he wouldn't have remembered that or me. Honestly, I felt pretty silly!

Yes I have seen GD from
admissions on a medicine facebook group too.

Have applied for the 6y courses

HYMS came through for us today. Suspect Leeds/Notts will be next week or so. Keele well into the new year.

If your dd is looking for a campus like uni, may I also recommend UEA? Dd is there and its a fabulous green campus uni

JaninaDuszejko · 26/11/2025 18:13

All DDs friends have at least one interview now, they are very happy. College is doing MMI practice with them now.

Yes - we visited UEA in September and were really impressed! We thought the accommodation was nicer at Keele (what we saw anyway) and handy having the med school so close. Keele and UEA were both my favourites - both score highly on the F1 questionnaire for preparedness and yet students were telling us that they didn't find the course too stressful and felt really supported, plus being on a campus close to the other students feels like it would suit DD best.

If her UCAT was sufficient I can see her applying for Keele, UEA and Exeter - the fourth one is still in the air - I like BSMS, but she wasn't so keen - but we've not actually attended an open day there yet. She loved Nottingham but her 6 in English lang might bring her score down too much (she has 4 x 9 and 4 x 8 otherwise - plus 2 x 7 but noone would score those two) and we visited Southampton which wasn't an outright no. Interestingly if she went Keele, UEA, Exeter and Southampton she could be going for 4 with quite different interview styles. Exeter seems like a pretty regular MMI - but online only, and UEA a pretty regular MMI - but in person only, then Keele have two 15 min interviews with the preseen info, and Southampton hae a longer interview and a group exercise!

Ooh that is the first I have heard of a Liverpool invitation - congrats to the friend! I had heard Liverpool is usually late.

All seem like solid choices. Just to note that Exeter requires A star/s (which is why we avoided it) and Southampton Ucat cut off can be quite high. It all depends on your stats really and what’s suits them.

If she likes the campus environment, HYMS or Lancaster may be worth a look
