She mentioned meeting one girl who attended the UCL session as well - maybe her? I didn't ask too many details tbh, she was exhausted last night when she got home.

It would be so cool if some of our YPs end up in the same med school!

Hi,

My daughter just received an interview invite from Oxford medicine. Anyone recommend for interview prep? Thank you.

That’s amazing! All the very best for the interviews. When will it be?? And did you have to choose a college?

mumsneedwine · 24/11/2025 15:33

Only 1240 applicants for Oxford this year. 400 odd interviews for 160 places. V v good odds to if have an interview (they'll offer about 320), so great news ! Will be more about academics than other Unis, so expect questions in things related to A level
bio and chem. Be prepared for weird things you've never heard off - try and relate them to stuff you do know about.

At Cambridge a couple of years ago, apparently there was a show of a big bone, and asked to discuss it!!

They don’t offer 320. Last year they offer 171 places including deferred entry. 😅

Thank you, yes DD chose the college and second random college by Oxford set on 15th, 16th Dec. I think she needs some mock interviews.

HelenofSparta · 24/11/2025 16:22

Oxford and UCL interview invites today too!!

inae · 24/11/2025 16:43

Congrats @Hi2025 and @HelenofSparta, that's amazing.

@HelenofSparta do you mind sharing the UCAT score and the UCL interview date/week? Although i'm guessing your YP's UCAT score is probably 95th percentile since both Oxford and UCL interviews were secured.

We're (still!) hoping for a UCL invite with an 87th percentile score.

is that an urban myth? either way, I think it's a good one - for challenging candidates :)

don't think so! friend's son interviewed there! :) (but he didn't get through - perhaps because he was channelling his inner Fred Flinstone!!)

I'd have been very tempted to say Pachycephalosaurus!

lol!! I think they were supposed to comment on whether it was animal, human or whatever. I don't know. We've not applied there!

Hi @inae UCAT 2410 and interview 12 Jan

inae · 24/11/2025 17:41

Fab score and best of luck with the interviews!

Tsuipen · 24/11/2025 19:12

Hello! I have been lurking and thought I ought to post as daughter revived her first interview invite today. Eek.

maybemedmum · 24/11/2025 19:26

Congratulations on the interviews coming through. And solidarity with those still waiting for them - it's such a tough process.
DD is a first year Oxford medic. She says the interviews were friendly, but extremely focused - really drilling down into an aspect of medical science/biology. They stressed that they wanted to hear her think aloud about a problem, rather than demonstrate her existing knowledge. She did very little interview prep for it (mostly due to being really quite ill the week before/during) but afterwards she felt like there wasn't that much she could have done that would have been helpful anyway and it made her feel better about the fact she was underprepared. I think there are sample interviews etc you can watch on YouTube which might be helpful. Also, the colleges vary a fair bit in how they run the interviews - one of the two DD interviewed at had a little group welcome session, but the other didn't - so would advise reading through whatever they have sent carefully (rather than just seeing the word 'interview' and not really looking beyond it which is what happened here initially!).
Wishing all your kids lots of luck.

Tsuipen · 24/11/2025 19:26

Luckily she can type better than her mother 😂

Itsallstressstressstress · 24/11/2025 19:38

Son has been rejected by Cambridge, gutted for him.

Thefatbutteredpig · 24/11/2025 20:08

Is there anyone’s dc who has no interviews at all?

Dn not heard a thing but disheartened after seeing people with lower stats getting hyms invites. Cant help thinking a rejection is on the way.

Heard nothing from Notts or Leeds ( or Keele but know they can take their time)

Itsallstressstressstress · 24/11/2025 19:38

Son has been rejected by Cambridge, gutted for him.

Sorry to hear that. If it is any consolation, the majority of students I know of who are currently studying medicine were rejected from at least one place, often two and sometimes three places. Hopefully, interviews will come through soon for his other options and boost him up.
