Thought I'd start another one.

DD has now received an email from Sunderland inviting her for an MMI practice session about two weeks before her interview. I'm really impressed that the Universities are doing what they can to level the playing field.

Vista123 · 21/11/2025 08:24

DD just got a rejection from Manchester with Ucat 2030. SJT 1, GCSEs 8/9s.
All my research led to a 7th decile Ucat being ok for Manny, as per last year, but clearly their threshold has increased this year. Not devastated as was our 4th choice but a bit deflated. At least we have UEA interview, and really hoping for at least one more 🤞🏻

Very sorry to hear that… especially tough as their website made a point of saying they predicted the cut-off to be around 1900 this year? I wonder if that statement pulled in extra applicants and pushed up the cut-off.
Fingers crossed for UEA and your daughter’s remaining applications!

inae · 21/11/2025 08:37

@Vista123 sorry to hear that! Your DD has great stats, it's their loss! You did your best with research. There will always be surprises with cutoffs, we can't read the future. I'm really glad you have UEA and hope you get two more! Big hug to your DD!

rockstuckhardplace · 21/11/2025 08:51

There are quite a few comments re Manchester rejections on the FB pages this morning. So sorry to hear. I agree that the increased number of applicants has clearly bumped the cut-off up beyond expectations - they can only interview so many. My DD would have applied there but didn't as she got B3 so that's worked out for the best as she would've been rejected too (1940).

inae · 21/11/2025 10:28

Manchester "rejected" us even before applying, as DD only has six 8/9s at GCSE (6 in Eng Lang stinger), so we crossed it off our list from the very beginning, due to @mumsneedwine's spreadsheet.

Saw on reddit that Brighton's 2026 entry cutoff is 2000 (increased, as compared to last year) and Exeter is 74 points (which is the same as last year). Not sure if this is true, but the poster said they got the info from a call and email respectively.

mumsneedwine · 21/11/2025 12:25

It's never an exact science I'm afraid. Nothing is ever 'safe' and all you can do is make the odds as good as possible. It looks like higher UCATs have applied to Manchester and Brighton this year. No idea why. No idea what this means for other Unis as it's all dependent on who actually applied there. Currently Bristol have invited insane UCATs only ! Wish this was all easier or more transparent but it never has been. 😡

@Vista123 big hugs to your daughter. So incredibly hard. She has great stats and one interview in the bag which is amazing! In 1998 I had 3 rejections, one offer - only ever need one! Manchester rejected me too.

Thefatbutteredpig · 21/11/2025 13:01

I emailed Leeds

Thank you for your email.

Applications for Medicine are currently being considered. We are extremely busy at the moment, but we hope to have informed all applicants of the outcome of their applications by the end of November. Please do not contact us for updates unless you have not received a decision by December 8th.

DD just got an interview for Newcastle! 11 December though so quite soon. Phew this was the one we thought might be borderline for her. She's delighted!

Congrats! Do you mind sharing the NCL score and whether contextual? My DD's friend has applied to Newcastle and eagerly waiting. She's quite unhappy and she got a Nanny rejection today and that was her favourite. :(

@Vista123 so sorry to hear that - I hope the others will happen. Where else have you applied? I’m only catching up now as have been out at work and not near computers for the way… will go look on socials.

Thefatbutteredpig · 21/11/2025 19:43

So HYMS invites have started. Nothing here as yet. Anxious weekend waiting for news

bluefineliner · 21/11/2025 20:26

@Vista123 sorry about Manchester it is annoying when they stated accepting the lower ucat scores, when in reality historically they were higher. Your DDs stats were very good, an increase of 1000 applicants is ridiculous! I'm sure there are other interviews to come for you.

@inae her Ncl score was 78/100 (non contextual), so good but nothing like the high ucat scorers who were contacted first. As they use the academic score as well as interview score to offer it will still be a risk even if she aces the interview but it is worth a try. Now to see if Leeds get in touch soon if they said it'll be end of Nov (thanks for the info @Thefatbutteredpig ).

inae · 20/11/2025 16:13

Congrats to all! Glad to see so many invites on the thread.

DD has finally received her first interview invite - it's from Exeter (predicted 3A* and A, and UCAT 2180 B1, non-contextual). It's on UCAS, and there was no email with details, but it's likely online. It's for January, so it looks like there will be no December interviews for her.

Edited

Did I miss this!! Congrats @inae !!! (Sorry, the iPad/phone version does not help me keep up with posts!!)

inae · 22/11/2025 08:49

Thanks @Vista123 My DD's friend NCL score is 74 I believe, so there is hope for them. Well done to your DD!

Thanks @MyGreyBiscuit. I'm relieved and can now enjoy the weekend, and DD is now more enthusiastic about her MMI mock session at Imperial tomorrow 😀

mumsneedwine · 22/11/2025 15:07

Lovely news. Getting an interview is a huge first step.

Kent ISoc is doing free MMI mocks next weekend, for anyone who is local/reasonable distance. My DD went to a similar one organised by UCL's RUMS ISoc students and it was very helpful.

Great to hear @HelenofSparta DD loved too. They organised 8 stations. Apparently, on top of the verbal feedback, they will also provide written feedback by email, together with an interview score. That's v useful, to know areas where to improve. Grateful they were able to do this at no cost.

DDs school is also organising something, no idea what and when. There are only three aspiring medics in her school, including her.
