Annual thread for those with dc about to embark on the rollercoaster of audition season. This is my second time round as my ds did it a couple of years ago. These threads are always really supportive and full of great advice as it’s often hard to explain to others how tough and competitive this process is. Good luck everyone!!

We went to Guildhall last week to watch one of the Third Year BA acting plays (which was excellent btw) and they had racks with all of the third year headshots and their CVs behind them (presumably for the agents to pick up). So much talent on that stage!!! 🤩

Truetoself · 28/03/2026 09:33

Thanks @Biscuitsneeded. I am sure @NervesAreShot. I maintain that talent alone is not enough!

Absolutely. Balls of steel (even the girls!), rhino hide, self-belief, resilience, the ability to be charming to everyone you meet, to engage people in conversation and make sure they remember you, detailed knowledge of the industry (who was CD on what, who has directed what, who is artistic director where etc), plus time management when juggling a job with tapes or auditions for other jobs, ability to build and sustain great relationship with agent etc and some big dollops of sheer luck all needed as much as talent.

Was your daughter recalled for devising? my dd has been recalled for all three courses so she may have to do it. It's on the list.

@Operagirl1 in case it's helpful for your DD tomorrow - at Central yesterday my son didn't do his devised piece from his self tape, nobody in his group was asked to. Just a workshop, then quite an out-there redirection of his classical monologue. Then for MT, monologues and song, plus he was asked for a second song (which he had prepared, phew!). Did Classical and Contemporary last, and that was just the beginning of his contemporary monologue then the whole of his Classical. Good luck!

Thank you, that is really helpful. So he was recalled for all 3 courses too. I hope he gets an offer! x

One more question if you don't mind. When he sang his song, did he use the live pianist (and was he/she any good) or did he use a backing track. Thank you so much

Oh good question! So he used the accompanist and his taped sheet music, he said they were excellent and followed his lead perfectly with timing. He actually first asked to do it acapella (he just felt as though he acted it a bit better that way) but they said they'd prefer accompanied as long as he had the music. Then when they asked if he had a second song, it was River Won't Flow by Jason Robert Brown 😬haha, but they were absolutely on it, said they knew it from memory but used his taped sheet music. And the accompanist thanked him for marking his music properly, so well done me! 😜

Oh great! Didn’t know they had a course of that name, sounds interesting. We are waiting on acting results this week from last week 3rd round, some received them yesterday which leave you with many feelings but just trying to be patient and not overthink!

Hi Folks,
2nd year of lurking and reading so glad to hear not alone on this roller coaster🤪
Last year Lipa: Daughter didnt make final round for Ba acting but put on reserve list then rejected
She auditioned for Lipa again (her top choice) this year 18th Feb this time made final round but 6 weeks in now & no news. She called them after the 2.5 weeks and they said still making decisions and to wait for an email.

Alittle anxious cos one of her friends (they both went to Brit school for 6th form) did her audition and was told a week later she was on reserve list.
Questions: has anyone here got offers from Lipa or still waiting like her? Or can we hope the adage no news is good news applies?!
Yes we also follow Lipa chat in student room forum and an older post 2024 said offers can be made very late. Not much activity on it for 2026 chat.
Any advice or shared experience would be greatly appreciated 🙏
Shes in NYT, little part time job as a party performer, also on Arts mentoring scheme so keeping herself busy but its anxious time for all! 🙏😅

There have been discussions even this week about LIPA.

Hope all with you folks!
Anyone else on hear waiting for Ba acting Lipa 6 weeks and counting 🙏🤪

Truetoself · 01/04/2026 10:55

Those who have received UCAS updates before receiving any email correspondence from GSA, and DC have auditioned for a BA, would UCAS specify if offer is for the course auditioned for and not foundation? Annoyingly admissions is closed until next week.

Yes, my DD had her LIPA audition on 19th Feb, got through to the 3rd round, but heard nothing since. But she’s also still waiting to hear anything from RCS from her first round in-person audition (that she travelled nearly 500 miles for!) on 12th January. A real test of nerves and patience.

I would phone or email, my YP heard 10 days after audition date, BA acting (mt), they won’t mind you contacting them especially after that length of time 🤞
