Annual thread for those with dc about to embark on the rollercoaster of audition season. This is my second time round as my ds did it a couple of years ago. These threads are always really supportive and full of great advice as it’s often hard to explain to others how tough and competitive this process is. Good luck everyone!!

Has anyone else got a recall for guildhall? Either this year or in previous years?

Yeah that's what my DD's says, however she specifically told them in Round 2 she only wanted to be considered for BA Acting. I think they maybe just have those auditions running on the same day? There were lots of Actor Muso's on her 2nd round too.

SparklyUmberExpert · 16/03/2026 14:03

@JustDramaMumThings Yeah that’s the same with my DD but he hasn’t mentioned it to them , he just it noticed it on the email .

Yeah I think it'll just be that there will be a mix of both students on the day. My DD said at the welcome meeting they had in the morning of her 2nd round they just went down the register and said everyone's name and confirmed what course it was they were applying for :)

Reklats · 17/03/2026 15:59

Any insight into whether the Mountview Acting foundation will be as highly regarded now that there are 3 locations? We can't find any info on the cohort size so just wondering whether the total numbers will be much bigger. DS also has an offer for Arts Ed Foundation so just trying to compare.

Does anyone know if it's a good or bad sign if not heard back from GSA for BA musical theatre recall workshop audition after 4 weeks? Thanks

Nothing..it's not my daughter I'm asking for, it's for her friend....does UCAS not tell you if there is an update? Thanks

GSA make rejections on UCAS very quickly - they don't send emails if they aren't offering. But they're good at giving time frames. 4 weeks seems a long time for their MT. Was her friend interviewed at the end of her recall day?

Thanks for replying..yes they were interviewed. We figured that no news was possibly good news!

If you have an offer of a BA MT and scholarship from a very good but “second tier” institution and a foundation offer from a top tier place, what would you consider when making decisions. DC has already done MT BTEC at a top institution so she has already had very good triple training.

I know there is no guarantee of a place anywhere the second time round. I know even a BA from a top tier place doesn’t guarantee success in the industry but I am wondering about attracting a good agent as you can’t get opportunities without an agent.

It’s a tough one. The first thing I’d probably think about is how much does your child like either place and would they be happy there/feel they are getting quality training. I did read your original post and think whilst one is definitely seen as more prestigious/estsblished as you say with the cert he there is no guarantee they’d get a degree place the following year. Can you do a bit of research and see from the past couple of years how many ( and if possible how many from a similar type as your child progressed to the degree?

If they weren’t to get onto the degree do they have a list of other places they’d be happier to accept over and above the degree place they have already.

Cost may not be a factor but the more prestigious is obviously more expensive and adding on an extra year.

On the website of the degree offer place you can see their grads and links to their spotlight pages so can see this years and previous to see agency representation etc . My son had a similar dilemma at 2 different schools a few years ago and we were stalking for what agents they were getting etc. I’d also say with the leadership there will likely have taken positives from the other school due to their own training.

Lots to think about and good luck on the decision. Two great offers but hard when you had your heart set on somewhere to let it go. My dc is going to the degree offer place :-)

Thank you @Mcmumagerfor your input.

Newgirls · 18/03/2026 22:15

its tricky. Some places offer quite a few foundation places - more than they ever have space for on a BA. If it was us it would be take the place and perhaps do an MA elsewhere later if really needed. Cost is a huge factor.

Truetoself · 18/03/2026 22:53

@Newgirlsyou would take the place where? For foundation or BA?

I think they mean the scholarship place and if needed, apply for an MA at the end with a top tier place. Think of them not being saddled with huge student debt x

Truetoself · 19/03/2026 07:35

I see @contrarydramamum. Thanks.

For us - the BA.

then an MA at a more prestigious place if really needed

pinkdelight · 19/03/2026 10:26

I don't post on here much as my own DC aren't going through it but I work in the industry and I'd say take the BA. Foundations are fine when there's nothing else on the table, and some people do get a lot out of them, but the year is over in a flash with no guarantees of progression, far from it, so better to take the BA and crack on. Foundations have come about because of how the training system has evolved for various reasons over the years, but really, if someone has what it takes, they don't really need 4 years rather than 3. They need to start working, so I wouldn't see much sense in taking the foundation over the BA, based on fairly minor differences in perceived prestige. If it was a gulf between a top and a bottom school then sure, but in this case the difference isn't so much that I'd risk taking years longer to get through a degree and get out in the world. If your DC likes the school and the course and will thrive there, then go for it and enjoy it. The rest - like so much in this line of work - is in the lap of the gods. All the best.
