Annual thread for those with dc about to embark on the rollercoaster of audition season. This is my second time round as my ds did it a couple of years ago. These threads are always really supportive and full of great advice as it’s often hard to explain to others how tough and competitive this process is. Good luck everyone!!

My DD's first audition for Emil Dale isn't until 14 March! I hope there will still be places available by then!

They have auditions right up till May so there will be places I’m sure.

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay near Emil Dale's Academy?

We stayed at Broadway hotel. It was fine and very close.

Truetoself · 08/02/2026 16:20

Congratulations to your DD @Mcmumager! Bravo!

We stayed at the broadway too. The staff were really lovely . It is a bit quirky but absolutely fine although shower wasn’t the best. It was a soul night when we stayed and very lively in the bar. It was a complimentary breakfast but it didn’t open till 8 so I just popped to the big Morrisons next door and grabbed my daughter some stuff. I know some friends also stayed in a premier inn nearby.

Has anyone's YP previously attended a second round for Mountview Actor Muso? Just wondering what they do on the day and in particular if they play their instruments again live/are expected to prepare new musical/acting pieces?

doesanybodyhaveamap · 08/02/2026 21:22

Not here sorry - DC withdrew once they had the RB offer. Can try and find out from others in the eir cohort though!

My dd was delighted go get the offer box from Emil Dale on Friday night. Can’t quite believe it and the realisation that she’ll be off in September is setting in. This is my second time going through this as my other child is also at drama school- if didn’t feel any less stressful second time round that’s for sure!

Good luck to everyone this year.

Delighted for your DD! Harder than ever to get an offer from EDA it seems, so she has done so well.

Dd has now cancelled Mountview audition - but the audition handbook for actor muso said for recalls there was no need to prepare new speeches unless specifically asked and they'd be in touch to confirm what you need to prepare for recalls.

Thank you - that's helpful. He's now found the handbook 😁Seems to be silent re instruments though. We will wait and see...

Brilliant news! How amazing to go into other auditions knowing you have a top offer like that! What other places has she got coming up?

So lovely to see so many success stories for MT in this thread so far :)

Does anyone know how the you tube views work? I've looked at analytics and seems like ds's tapes for Conte and Urdang have been viewed once but it appears for only around 1-2 mins each one. The tapes are all around 6/ 7 mins long. What does this mean, that they don't watch it all. Should we expect no's in this case.?
Can anyone else see how long their videos were viewed for?

Sop2 · 10/02/2026 07:35

For Urdang DD's was viewed roughly 1 min for each of acting and singing and dance at the start and then more fully for dance before recall emails. Generally her singing (strongest) was viewed the least on all her tapes. I guess they stop as soon as they have made a decision on what they are seeing so don't take it as a bad thing!

Sop2 · 10/02/2026 07:39

Also check for how many unique viewers there are. If only 1 that's you. If you can see the unique viewers going up they haven't just discounted the tape and are still interested.

The timing of these things is always bad. My daughter had her first audition just over a week ago and had been poorly with a sore throat which turned into a bad cold. Just took a load of cold and flu meds and pushed through but it was a stress. Sounds like she has a few days though so I’d say lots of rest and lots of good healthy food!

On a positive note despite feeling rubbish she got an offer and my son 2 years ago got the offer for the place he took after messaging me on the way there to say he felt like he had razor blades in his throat! I think it’s all to add to the stress we are already feeling!

Otrivine spray for a clear nose!
steam every night!
don't use throat lozenges.
adrenaline is a wonderful thing and gets you through. Good luck!

@MTNoviceParent Hi, when we were in America last week at Unifieds, this subject came up on the group chat.

The other mums recommended nebulising with saline, throat coat tea, humidifier in room if possible.

Obviously plenty of water too.

Good luck!

Thanks we have all the vitamins, nebulisers, Doctor Vox throat massager etc going on so 🤞

Sop2 · 10/02/2026 11:26

I forgot vocalzones! The black ones are amazing.

actiongirl1978 · 10/02/2026 11:26

@MTNoviceParent one thing that did come up in the parent chat was whether you should tell the person auditioning you that you have a cold...

The general consensus was no. It sounds like an excuse up front and the people auditioning are very experienced and can tell if the voice is impaired compared to the self tapes.

Should she declare before the audition that she is/has been unwell or reschedule? I’m unsure what to do at the minute as I can’t see her recovering 100% before then and I don’t want it to affect her chances 😫 if she pushes through and it hampers her recovery it may affect her next one 4 days later!! 🫣 arrrrgh!!! Hopefully blood test will confirm later today that it’s just flu & not Glandular Fever which has done the rounds at college recently!

She hasn’t done self tapes for this one it’s just a straight out 1st audition.
