DD got an offer 😊😊

MrsFloof · 09/01/2024 11:52

Thanks space99, stoney, Miranda and Rollergirl Sorry your DD has not got an offer Stoney, I hope she is very happy wherever she goes and good she has other offers she likes.

Sorry also to Light and anyone else who didn't get an offer. Good luck to those still waiting and congratulations to those with offers. DD has just gone into school late as she didn't want anyone to see her reaction positive or negative. She has said she wants pizza for 6.30pm and said she doesn't like champagne so don't give her any of that again. 😂

mondaytosunday · 09/01/2024 11:54

Absolutely @Pleasealexa! Knowing your grades means no second guessing and removes the stress of waiting til August! The system is a terrible one.
Congrats to all who've been successful (seems like the whole Oxbridge thread is made up of Oxford applicants). Commiserations to those without an offer but onwards and upwards!

@Lightsabre I’m very sorry to hear that. As I’ve said, being a survivor of this process twice now (and probably going again next year), I’ve been lurking and admired how you have run these threads which can be from become surprisingly contentious (!) very diplomatically and kindly. I’m here to tell you that there is most definitely a fabulous life waiting after rejection and wish your ds the very, very best

That's very kind @periodiclabel, it's been great for me to have you all to angst with. Ds didn't really want anyone to know in real life that he'd applied so thirst threads have been a good sounding board.

Lightsabre · 09/01/2024 11:58

Waitingfortulips · 09/01/2024 11:13

A no for DS.

At the beginning he said that it wasn’t Oxford he wouldn’t apply to because he fancied living in London. He’ll be fine. We are waiting to hear from Imperial for Chemistry now with a very achievable offer hand from UCL.

What a mad process this all is.

Also now waiting for Imperial too. Ds is excited about the course there but I'm worried about the costs and the student experience if he gets a place. We won't be eligible for the accommodation bursary.

Lightsabre · 09/01/2024 12:04

Sorry spamming as I'm catching up with all of the messages, amazing news for the contextual candidates and for those of you with offers. @Silkiefloof, particularly happy for your dd and commiserations to you @catmomof3 and all of you whose have been 'redirected'.

ShanghaiDiva · 09/01/2024 12:06

Congratulations to all those with offers. Enjoy celebrating with your family and friends.
For those that didn’t get an offer: there are so many excellent universities here in the UK and they will have a brilliant experience and will continue to shine.

TenSheds · 09/01/2024 12:08

Following all the updates with genuine interest, but impossible to keep up with individual congrats and sympathies. Know they're there, but I'm supposed to be working and can't tag everyone ❤ There's so much positive support for rejectees here and on TSR, feels like it would have more than overcome any disapointment. This has been a lovely group and I look forward to reading all the successes come August.

Memba · 09/01/2024 12:09

Offer for Law just in. Can't quite believe it.

Not exactly what DD applied for which was Law with French Law but she's managing her disappointment well 'meh, I can go to France anytime!' 😂.

Congrats and commiserations to others. I hope anyone still waiting will hear soon.

MirandaWest · 09/01/2024 12:10

DD didn’t get in - she texted me a few minutes ago. She said she feels weirdly OK so hope she actually is and not just saying that to try and make me feel OK

Revengeofthepangolins · 09/01/2024 12:10

Finally heard from the little b*gger and he has a place for English. Can't quite process it really

Waitingfortulips · 09/01/2024 12:15

@Lightsabre

our DC1 is currently 2nd year at Imperial and happy. The resources are mind blowing - there is so much opportunity. He has friends on his course and friends from other London unis for balance. The course is hard but manageable.

I’ll be honest and admit I was hoping for Oxford because of the cost. It will be lean years for us with two DC in London on 4 year courses.

MrsFloof · 09/01/2024 12:15

Thanks Lightsabre So sorry Miranda was really hoping for good news for you and DD.

listsandbudgets · 09/01/2024 12:21

Firstly huge congratulations to those with offers.

I've not got a DC who's applied but I applied to Oxford years ago and got rejected and then bunked off lessons went to the pub and got very very drunk

But I just wanted to say I then went to Warwick and had a fabulous time, got a good degree and have enjoyed a career that's given me a lot of satisfaction. My then boyfriend got into Cambridge and I wouldn't say that our outcomes have been that different in the end

Oxbridge rejection (any rejection) feels shit but it's not the end of the road Flowers

newnamenellie · 09/01/2024 12:30

Had a call from a very happy DD - she got an offer from Exeter college for Medicine 😊

Lightsabre · 09/01/2024 12:32

Sorry to hear your news @MirandaWest, I'm waiting for a lunch time call for ds. I guess it's good that positive or negative, they've had time to process.

Congratulations @Revengeofthepangolins , great news!

@Waitingfortulips, thanks for that feedback re Imperial. Just hoping ds does get an offer there now as that will boost his confidence I think and he also has friends who will be forming it so at least some friends to hang out with. Two at London uni's must be painful cost wise but I'm glad to hear your dc is enjoying it.

Newgirls · 09/01/2024 12:33

It’s a no here. Bit disappointed as she is a strong state school applicant and the lower cost was appealing, but also ok as not sure the course was really right for her. She seems ok. Thanks for all the chat here x

mushroom3 · 09/01/2024 12:35

It's a no for DS. I think he will be firming Edinburgh. It's quite tough for him as his closest friends all got offers.

BiancaBlank · 09/01/2024 12:38

DD got an offer! Still processing tbh, after how badly she said her first interview went.

Massive congratulations to those DC who’ve received offers and commiserations to those who haven't - been there and done that. What’s impressive is how quickly most of them move on!

Panicmode1 · 09/01/2024 12:40

newnamenellie · 09/01/2024 12:30

Had a call from a very happy DD - she got an offer from Exeter college for Medicine 😊

Many congrats to her. Just heard my godson is an Exeter College offer holder too (different course)!

I'm working so can't tag everyone but want to wish the offer holders huge congratulations, and those getting less positive news, huge commiserations. (My trajectory was very similar to someone upthread - I was rejected from Oxford for law, went to Exeter and studied something totally different, having a blast and meeting my husband in the process. It felt like the end of my world at the time, but there's a very big world out there, many more excellent unis and life beyond Oxbridge! )

Enjoy the celebratory champagne and commisatory pizzas/take aways tonight with your children. They should be proud of themselves, whatever their outcomes - it's a brutal process. (And it ain't over yet 😉!)

mushroom3 · 09/01/2024 12:41

Congratulations to all those DC who have offers (specially @MrsFloof DD) and I'm really sorry to hear of the fellow poster's DC who haven't got in.

everythingcrossed · 09/01/2024 12:49

A no for my son for Maths.

Congratulations to those whose children did make it Smile.

periodiclabel · 09/01/2024 12:53

Just to say ime the shock of rejection often takes a few days to kick in, if you ask for feedback and get it (not all colleges/courses do) it can be quite a blow to see how close your dc came. Also very tough when friends get offers @mushroom3 we had this, I sympathise. But I can honestly say my rejected dc ended up enjoying uni more than their O friends and also more than sibling at O - it all works out!

MirandaWest · 09/01/2024 12:55

I think for DD as more of her friends have applied to Cambridge than Oxford if say they all get Cambridge offers she may have a secondary upset. But will wait and see

MirandaWest · 09/01/2024 12:56

On the plus side I put away lots of clean washing this morning!
