Interesting - thank you. I do hope the odds are a bit better this year for those who have already jumped through so many hoops to get to the interview stage.

Groundhogday2021 · 07/12/2023 13:13

DD had her Bristol interview today and thought some of the questions were quite tough. I think it threw her off a bit but other station was much better. 🤞
When they say they will be in touch in 3 weeks time, does that actually mean they do? And what does that entail usually?

opoponax · 07/12/2023 13:24

With Bristol, if the candidate has been outstanding in interview they may get an early offer. For the majority they are put on hold after three weeks and then there is a drip feed of batches of offers and rejections that seem to go on for a very long time. Both of my DC got offers for Bristol but they took a while to come. Both also said Bristol was their worst interview.

Notcontent · 07/12/2023 13:30

Interesting. Glad dd did not apply to Bristol. Up to know I think it all felt like an obstacle course (the ucat, bmat etc) - all within her control - but the next step feels to her like a sheet cliff face.

opoponax · 07/12/2023 13:39

Sorry I should have said that it was most likely because for both it was their first interview and that's probably why they thought it had not gone as well as others, not because there was anything particularly horrid about the Bristol one.

Sybill · 07/12/2023 13:43

The wait is tough @LaMereDuChat - hopefully your DD gets some good news this week. A friend of DD’s has only had 1 rejection so far and nothing at all yet from the other 3, whilst all around have already started interviews - it’s not easy, they’re only 17/18 after all.

Notcontent · 07/12/2023 14:09

Yes, agreed @LaMereDuChat @Sybill some people at dd’s school have all their interviews in December and have nearly finished the process, while others are still waiting to hear - it’s very tough.

Mumofboys2006 · 07/12/2023 23:34

Good news from us: Birmingham interview just came through for DS. He’s really pleased - we really liked the campus!

SuperSue77 · 07/12/2023 23:44

That makes me feel warm inside - my parents met at Birmingham med school (nearly 60 years ago now!) and their closest friends are still the people from their course with them or on related courses (dentistry). I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for that med school! They had the most amazing time there.

Mumofboys2006 · 08/12/2023 07:09

Thanks @SuperSue77 what a lovely story!

I have relatives who trained there or taught there years ago as well!

It actually is a really nice campus and DS loved it so 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Sybill · 08/12/2023 07:32

Brilliant news @Mumofboys2006 ! Sibling of one of DD’s friends is a med student there and loves it!

Tripadvice · 08/12/2023 10:24

Dd has had 2 rejections, 2 alternative course offers (biomed or neuroscience) and we are still waiting for one more… SGUL.

So frustrating and worrying. She’s told herself she will definitely be having a gap year. I think it’s a safety net though

MMIMadness · 08/12/2023 13:50

DC has two interviews in January - woo hoo!

He has ‘the book’ but how else can I help him prepare for interview? Is there paid prep that anyone would recommend?

thanks 😊

BerryHM · 08/12/2023 13:58

So disheartening but fantastic to have received backup choices. My DS chose Neuroscience for his 5th option.
good luck with SGUL 🤞

Sybill · 08/12/2023 14:35

Sorry to hear it @Tripadvice i hope she hears some good news from SGUL soon. I’m sure you’ve already heard this, but we met so many med students on open days who were gap year applicants and they all said exactly the same thing - it was a blessing in disguise as it gave them time to be sure it was what they wanted to do, got a health care role so we’re more confident starting, and they got to save some money towards living expenses. If she does end up going that way, hopefully it’ll be the same for her

Waferbiscuit · 08/12/2023 16:46

Congrats to all on interviews. Has anyone yet heard from Lancaster? All quiet here!

Habbibu · 08/12/2023 17:24

DD just got an offer of a place from Dundee! Fingers crossed for everyone waiting.

Sybill · 08/12/2023 17:32

Wow congrats to her @Habbibu , how great to get an offer, and to get one this early - well done her 👏
That must be the first one?!

Habbibu · 08/12/2023 17:50

It's amazing. We're quite shell shocked. Her interview was last Tuesday. I think she knows if two other people who've just received offers this evening from Dundee.

Groundhogday2021 · 08/12/2023 18:16

Wow! Congratulations to your dd @Habbibu! what a wonderful early Christmas gift! 🎉👏

Habbibu · 08/12/2023 18:24

Really is. She's been through a huge amount with her health over the past few years and has overcome so much to get here. I'm unbelievably proud of her.

MMIMadness · 08/12/2023 18:36

Oh wow @Habbibu ! Congratulations! Must be such a relief to be able to relax and enjoy Christmas.

My DC's interviews are with Bangor and Cardiff in January so a while to wait yet.

Name changed for this thread - been following and lost you all for a while!
