Thank you @UCASstuffiskillingme this is now DS worked it out before rushing out the door to a party! I
l work it out now

Mumofboys2006 · 24/11/2023 21:31

@UCASstuffiskillingme I can’t see where it says section 2 score is doubled. So his scores on his sheet are:
5, 5.7, 3A

Mumofboys2006 · 24/11/2023 22:13

Sorry pls ignore - we’ve worked it all out and his BSMS score is 22.78 which means he should be fine 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Scoobyblue · 25/11/2023 08:06

@Mumofboys2006 based on the criteria on their website, I would say that his BSMS score is 24.4. 5 for section 1, 5.7x2 for section 2, 3+5 for section 3. Totaling 24.4.

Mumofboys2006 · 25/11/2023 09:51

Thanks so much @Scoobyblue - this is so helpful. Their website isn’t particularly clear so I’ll email or phone as well on Monday.

Thanks again - such a helpful supportive group!

Scoobyblue · 25/11/2023 10:02

@Mumofboys2006 I would get ds to contact them if he wants to rather than you as a parent. Universities definitely prefer to speak to the student rather than the parent.

ipredictariot5 · 25/11/2023 12:11

This is interesting from Glasgow - my DD applied there but we assumed outright rejection as UCAT 2750 SJ 1. But didn’t want to put her off - seems the scores are a lot lower than thought - I wonder if the the other med schools that people have been put off applying due to the high UCAT that people have assumed from TSR etc is changing due to the high scoring students often get 4 offers and can’t go to 4 med schools !
While thresholds vary year to year we anticipate 2024 scores will be more reflective of the 2023 statistics rather than previous years. The 2023 statistics are as follows. Minimum interview threshold was 2440 for Scottish applicants, 2690 for non-Scottish UK applicants and 2800 for International and EU candidates

weasle · 25/11/2023 14:34

My DS is hoping for a Cambridge interview. Do they hear soon does anyone know? He got over 7 on both BMAT sections and 3.5A for the essay part.
He has an interview at King's which is great. I'm so nervous for him! I'm rubbish at interviews and really hate them so I'm hoping my fear is not infectious!

losingtheplot999 · 25/11/2023 14:44

@weasle same here DS2 got over 8.00 in both sections and 3.5A. He also has interview at KCL next week. He did get an email from Cambridge to say he would hear this week but nothing. His friend had a rejection email from Cambridge yesterday but his BMAT scores were a lot lower in the 5's. Hoping we will hear next week.

Revengeofthepangolins · 25/11/2023 17:26

@Mumofboys2006 Not sure what the point of calling them would be?

Revengeofthepangolins · 25/11/2023 17:27

Some amazing BMAT scores there - congrats to them

Sybill · 25/11/2023 17:58

@losingtheplot999 and @weasle wow, those BMAT scores are amazing, well done to your DC! I’m not sure how Cambridge shortlists , is it done by individual college? DD has 2 friends applying- one got an interview invite before BMAT results were even released! The other hasn’t heard anything yet, and got 6s in BMAT

mumsneedwine · 26/11/2023 09:21

Some fantastic BMAT scores. It was tough this year.
For those still waiting for interviews, hang in there. They'll keep coming until April so it's v early days. It does look as though UCAT cut offs might be back to pre pandemic ones. Think there are going to be a few surprises this year (good ones).
Happy Sunday. Off for a chilly walk.

well done to everyone on their BMAT results!

Has anyone heard or have any updates from either Birmingham or Barts (QMUL)

thanks

I don't think Birmingham has put offers out yet as DS2's friend has applied and not heard back yet. DS2 is still waiting for Cambridge and UCL.

Mumofboys2006 · 27/11/2023 10:47

Presuming you mean interviews not offers @losingtheplot999 🤔

Mumofboys2006 · 27/11/2023 10:48

It’s such a slow process! We’ve booked a few days away (in the UK from 16-19 Dec) and DS panicking he might have an interview - oh well…he can always get a train back if he does!

Notcontent · 27/11/2023 11:07

We are waiting for Barts too - DD said she heard they usually send out invitations in December. But I can’t remember if it’s all in one go or in batches.

Sorry meant interviews the waiting is taking its toll.

losingtheplot999 · 27/11/2023 16:31

DS2 had an email from Cambridge earlier today to say he will be getting an interview but hasn't been given a date.

Groundhogday2021 · 27/11/2023 17:42

How very exciting!! 🎉

Sybill · 27/11/2023 17:48

Congratulations to your DS @losingtheplot999 - how exciting for him!

losingtheplot999 · 28/11/2023 10:08

Hope everyone is doing ok it is a nervous time waiting for interviews to come through. DS2 had online interview with KCL this morning. He said he doesn't think he did that well but we will see.

Notcontent · 28/11/2023 11:35

He probably did better than he thought @losingtheplot999

Me dd is really dreading the interviews as she gets really anxious - although fine in a normal one to one situation. Practising lots so hopefully will be ok. I think there is an element of luck involved as in my experience of job interviews sometimes you feel immediate rapport with someone and that really helps - and sometimes not!!!

ipredictariot5 · 30/11/2023 22:17

Yes to the nice surprises - Glasgow interview UCAT 2750 not contextual and not Scottish - we are amazed and delighted
feels like there’s a more level playing field this year which is great
