3,000 seems very high. Assuming they do 4 sessions a day, with 50 kids per session, that still makes 15 days of interviews. I'm not sure they have the time ! Or the energy.

i guess there might be a rationale that if ucat threshold lower they don’t miss out on good kids. Liverpool is often picked by students who get 4 offers then decline so they want to see as many as possible

mumsneedwine · 06/02/2024 19:07

True. But that's a lot of work interviews ! Glad it's not my job

Has anyone's DCs had interviews at BSMS (Brighton & Sussex)? I think @Mumofboys2006 mentioned back in the thread that her DC had secured an interview?

I am just wondering how they went for those who did interview. My DD had the interview today and found it quite tough. I appreciate we're not really supposed to talk about the interview in detail but it would be good to get an overall view on it. Thx!

4andnotcounting · 07/02/2024 20:03

Has anyone heard back from anywhere yet? DS had interviews before Christmas at Anglia Ruskin and Leicester. Nottingham and bham in January. Not heard anything back.

does anyone know how much the interview part counts for these universities?

I would love to hear from anyone who’s DC had interview as Anglia Ruskin and what they thought of the interview in comparison to the others.

Pickupapingu · 07/02/2024 20:12

I think there’s been news from Scotland? DD has had an offer from Leeds 🎉 but I think that was vey early this year as I think most of the other unis offer in March / April. Hang on in there!

W0tnow · 07/02/2024 20:56

We had 3 interviews all done by early December. The 4 th by the last week of January. We’re not expecting to hear anything until the end of February. I’m pretty sure some universities are still interviewing.

Mumofboys2006 · 07/02/2024 23:36

We had interviews in mid-Dec and Jan and then one last week.
Not heard anything yet but I don’t think that’s unusual.

Mumofboys2006 · 07/02/2024 23:38

@Waferbiscuit DS found all the online interviews trickier as it’s harder to connect with the interviewers. The two he did in person definitely went better

Sybill · 08/02/2024 07:01

DD had 2 in-person interviews, one in Dec, one early Jan and then the third was online at end Jan. Got an early offer from the Jan in-person interview but hasn’t heard from the others, expecting to mid to late March. The one she got an offer from are still interviewing and have said most offers will be given out in March. So plenty of time yet 🤞

Hi @4andnotcounting My son is currently studying medicine at Anglia Ruskin, he really rates the medical school and is very happy there. I am very happy to answer any questions you may have.

Waferbiscuit · 08/02/2024 07:44

@Sybill can I ask where your son got the early offer from? Thx.

Sybill · 08/02/2024 08:05

@Waferbiscuit sure, it was Leicester (and very unexpected!)

Waferbiscuit · 08/02/2024 08:28

Great @Sybill lovely surprise for your dc!

Sybill · 08/02/2024 09:11

It really was @Waferbiscuit , and it’s giving her great focus and motivation to get that AstarAA that’s needed!!

speedyhedgehog · 08/02/2024 11:17

No news here either. Dd had 2 in person and 2 online in January. Her siblings are on 2/5 and 5/5 offers so far which doesn't help but there's no expectation that we'll hear back before late Feb/ March. All of them trying to focus on their end Feb mocks.

I've been settling in for the long wait and trying to be patient on my DS behalf.

He's out tonight so I just had a quick check of his emails as he has an event this weekend I needed information for and he has an unconditional offer from Bangor!

He was unsuccessful in applying last year so was applying with grades in hand - it's not been easy!

Huge congratulations to all those holding offers too.

Congratulations!!!! That is wonderful news! I love hearing about everyone’s good news stories, I’m a lurker as my daughter is only year 10! But your post made me so happy for your son I wanted to say congratulations!!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 08/02/2024 20:03

I've got no skin in the game this year as DD is a year 2 medic at Exeter but feel ecstatic for @MMIMadness tonight..... I hope mini @MMIMadness is equally happy that he's on the path to becoming a doctor now.

speedyhedgehog · 08/02/2024 21:03

Congratulations @Mmimadness ds! How lovely for him! I hope he enjoys Bangor (if that's where he chooses at the end of the day) I am from nearby. Its a beautiful area.

losingtheplot999 · 08/02/2024 21:03

Great news @MMIMadness

Waferbiscuit · 08/02/2024 21:06

Wow @MMIMadness wow!! Congrats. What a great place to go to uni!

MMIMadness · 08/02/2024 21:24

Diolch yn fawr iawn pawb!

He's definitely going to accept - he really loved the university, the lecturers he met at open day, the course, the location!

I was on last year's threads under another name but found I got too obsessed with the process in a way that wasn't good for me. DS was far more resilient than me, fortunately!

Thank you once again to everyone for their advice (@mumsneedwine especially on tactics), sharing their stories and offering luck and now congratulations with such generosity. You are so kind. I hope everyone ends up where they want x

First child to go, so now it's accommodation, finance and everything else to learn about!

mumsneedwine · 08/02/2024 21:26

@MMIMadness 😊 I love a success story (or 2,3,4 !!). Huge congratulations.
That old mantra, you only need one offer. Still many more to come

Does anyone know how they grade the GCSEs when considering med school applications? I often see talk of how all 9s will increase your chances, but which GCSEs do they take into account? Is it the top 8 scores, or is it the scores of all GCSE subjects regardless of how many you take?
