Can’t believe it but DD has got an offer!!! Am so happy for her, it’s such a huge relief to get one (although it’s for Leicester, so an AstarAA one so a bit punchy 😂) She’s very excited about going to an offer holders day now! As am I, as I don’t know much about Leicester, so if anyone has any insights, I’m all ears!! 2 more to hear back from, although she thinks one of those interviews went better than the other

Sybill · 02/02/2024 18:11

And congrats on all the other offers coming through - lovely to hear it!

Habbibu · 02/02/2024 18:15

Congratulations, Sybill! I'm sure other people will have better information, but I lived in Leicester quite some time ago for about a year and I really enjoyed it. The market was amazing and the town was nice. I've heard good stories about the university in general. Leicester seemed quite commutable to other places as well so for example I visited my boyfriend at the time ( now DH) in London really easily and it was easy to get to my mum and dad in Liverpool.

My nephew is just finishing medicine in Leicester. He didn’t apply and got 4 rejections because of uk cat score low then got A star x2 and A and did a ring round and got place. He’s been perfectly happy there apart from bad accomodation first year as he applied late. He’s from Sheffield and would visit a lot as his gf was t there v easily as it’s well connected

MumsrulesOk · 02/02/2024 18:45

@ipredictariot5

Yes Newcastle is favourite at the moment, but Hull/York quite often drop one grade if you firm, so if she gets an offer, she may go there as it’s takes some pressure off, otherwise I think Newcastle or Glasgow

Sybill · 02/02/2024 18:58

Thanks @Habbibu and @ipredictariot5 - great to hear!
You don’t happen to know which accommodation your nephew was allocated (assuming it was uni accommodation) just so we know to avoid? The village seems lovely but there’s new accommodation right beside the med school which would be tempting.

It was private as there was no uni left

Sybill · 02/02/2024 19:08

Thanks @ipredictariot5 👍

TurnLeftAtTheRoundabout · 02/02/2024 19:19

Brilliant- well done to all who have offers! What a weight off the waiting!

Groundhogday2021 · 02/02/2024 19:43

That’s amazing @Sybill 🎉
My DD really liked Leicester on the Open Day and the accomodation on campus was lovely! Didn’t apply there in the end but huge congrats…what a great one to have in the bag! 👏

Sybill · 02/02/2024 20:09

Thank you @Groundhogday2021 ! I went with her for the interview and the staff that did a talk for parents/supporters were really lovely and friendly. I can remember how despondent DD was after her UCAT, she really thought she wouldn’t get an interview anywhere, so to get 3 and now an offer, well she’s just happy as a clam! She’s very much of the opinion that her favourite uni is the one that gives her an offer so it’s now her favourite (so far!!)

Groundhogday2021 · 02/02/2024 20:13

As the saying goes… ‘you only need one’! 😁

mumsneedwine · 02/02/2024 20:17

😊 so lovely to hear of offers. Especially those who strategically applied - an average UCAT still means you can get offers.
Well done everyone. More are coming in the next few weeks. It will be over soon !

Very true groundhog!!

Sybill · 02/02/2024 20:21

That’s great to hear @mumsneedwine - we are a complete non-medic family and no idea. Everything we know is what I’ve read on here!!

mumsneedwine · 02/02/2024 20:32

@Sybill I was you 6 years ago. She's an F1 now 😊. It's a v sharp learning curve.

Congratulations to @Sybill DD on the Leicester offer. DS2 had an interview there but still waiting to hear back. Not sure if UCAT scores have gone up this year but a friend of DS2 had a score in the region of 2700 and didn't receive interviews at either Birmingham or Aston.

Definitely benefitted from @mumsneedwine advice re strategic application - my daughter only got 2720 and got 4 interviews and 2 offers so far. We were v despondent in august too that it would never happen. Thanks @mumsneedwine !

mumsneedwine · 03/02/2024 08:09

You're very welcome. I hate seeing students given bad advice about medicine and feeling they are not good enough.

DS got an email from Southampton saying there’s no academic reference on his ucas submission? He can get school to sort it tomorrow but he’s already had interviews at UEA, Newcastle and Sheffield- will it not be on for them aswell? Panicking a bit now!

Mrslights · 05/02/2024 16:20

All sorted!

speedyhedgehog · 05/02/2024 18:31

@Mrslights glad its all sorted. I didn't know the answer to comment on your first post! No one needs added drama on this journey so glad it was sorted quickly for your drs

ipredictariot5 · 06/02/2024 15:58

Just heard from a reliable source that Liverpool interviewing around 3000 this year meaning interview to offer ratio is again low.
going to prep my DD
for the disappointment that might be coming her way

Sybill · 06/02/2024 16:30

Wow @ipredictariot5 , that’s a lot of interviews for them to get through. I’m amazed they have the capacity for it! But it does show that they want to be as inclusive as possible I suppose and give as many people the opportunity to compete for it, which is to their credit. Doesn’t make it easy for candidates waiting though, especially as it always seems to be a popular choice, and likely to be top of students lists. Good luck to your DD 🤞
