@Africa2go thats really interesting - wondering why the reject in that case in the first round - why not just say you’re on waitlist - 🤔

thillanddale42 · 01/02/2024 08:33

Hi have been a lurker here as DS is doing the rounds. Last interview round yesterday….. it was going well with first four stations, until the last when he had what he termed as an interviewer who, out of the five, didn’t introduce herself and then spent 8 minutes being really awkward.- a couple of times inferring he was a mysogonist. He said he felt totally misunderstood and judged and almost cried when he left !!!!….really feel for these kids ! He has had 3 interviews and waiting for outcome
of 4th. It’s exhausting this… he did say he thinks he can’t go through it again if he doesn’t get in this time… well done to all so far for keeping sane and keeping our kids sane. Just wanted to see if anyone else’s dc experienced anything like

Barleypilaf · 01/02/2024 08:54

@thillanddale42 Not exactly the same, but at each MMI, there was one station which didn’t go well so a rejection would not be a total shock.

DD has had one rejection (Cambridge), and I hope that with 3 other interviews, one will be a a yes. But it is so disheartening and a long wait until March. They are so young and so keen and have had to jump so many hurdles to get this far and then it feels like they have to be perfect at interview on every aspect.

OwlMother · 01/02/2024 10:37

Ds had three MMI style interviews and felt that at two of them there was a station which purposefully tried to throw him off. Our understanding was that this is purposeful and they want to see how you respond when things don't go according to plan.

One of these he was really sure went badly but he's had offers from this one and one of the others (the last doesn't seem to have sent any offers yet) so far so it doesn't necessarily impact the entire result.

thillanddale42 · 01/02/2024 13:00

Thanks - that was the message we gave him
that they wanted to see how he might react to a tricky personality. They will get more than their fair share during training ! Thanks for the comforting words tho’. Let’s see !

ipredictariot5 · 01/02/2024 17:29

Last interview today - I’m exhausted and it wasn’t me doing them!
some tricky questions at Liverpool but the hardest thing was knowing if she had well as all the interviewers were fairly blank and neutral.
she is so lucky to have one offer so at least if rejected from others it won’t be so devastating
hope all other DC doing OK x

SparklyEyes1 · 02/02/2024 08:04

We've had an offer, ds is really really happy. Not his first choice, and waiting to hear from the others, but very relieved. Good luck to all!

OwlMother · 02/02/2024 10:24

Well done @SparklyEyes1 ds!! Such a relief to have the first offer in the bank. Fingers crossed for his favourite.

SparklyEyes1 · 02/02/2024 10:29

@OwlMother thank you, this is so stressful isn't it!

Mumofboys2006 · 02/02/2024 10:29

Hello everyone, I just wanted to check again about what to wear to an interview. DS wore smart trousers and shoes plus shirt and a smart jumper (no tie) to all his interviews but especially at Birmingham everyone else was in a full suit with blazer! So I’m still feeling a bit paranoid about that - he thinks the interview went well, in fact his best to date bit would love some reassurance on this.

hes got QMuL shortly online and is wearing a tie under his jumper today 🤞🏼🤞🏼🫣

Barleypilaf · 02/02/2024 10:31

@SparklyEyes1 - well done, that’s great news! Which med school?

@Mumofboys2006 that sounds perfectly smart. No need to stress

OwlMother · 02/02/2024 10:40

@Mumofboys2006 that's precisely what Ds wore to all 4, and he said that seemed to fit the bill. He wouldn't have been so comfortable in a suit so this seemed like the best option.

thillanddale42 · 02/02/2024 10:42

Same here school 6th form suit and shirt but no tie…. And we cleaned the shoes !!!!

Mumofboys2006 · 02/02/2024 10:47

Thanks all - yes so important to clean shoes!😅 @thillanddale42

I think DS hates me right now as I made him shave and get a hair cut too!🫣

losingtheplot999 · 02/02/2024 11:13

@Mumofboys2006 DS2 wore trousers with a shirt and jumper to all his interviews with smart shoes. Congratulations to everyone who has received offers this week and fingers crossed for more to come 🤞🏼

ipredictariot5 · 02/02/2024 11:45

Not sure if anyone here DC applied but my DD had an offer for Sunderland today. Not first choice but great to have whilst we wait for Liverpool and Manchester

Mumofboys2006 · 02/02/2024 11:53

Congrats @ipredictariot5 - always good to have an offer under the belt!

QMuL all done - not the friendliest of interviews apparently and also very short - now the wait starts for us 🤞🏼

SparklyEyes1 · 02/02/2024 11:56

@Barleypilaf Thank you! Kent, but really wants Bristol.

@ipredictariot5 well done on the first offer, good luck for the others!

Groundhogday2021 · 02/02/2024 12:17

Congrats on the offers today!! 🎉

W0tnow · 02/02/2024 12:25

QMUL was 20 mins right @Mumofboys2006 ? 10 for article and 10 for other stuff?

Habbibu · 02/02/2024 13:02

Congratulations on all the offers. It's a relief isn't it?

She got one from Glasgow about a month ago and I am hoping she will go there. Waiting for Liverpool and Manchester

speedyhedgehog · 02/02/2024 15:22

Congratulations on the offers today! Well done to all the dc!

MumsrulesOk · 02/02/2024 17:22

DD received an offer for Sunderland this morning, so two offers now just waiting on Newcastle and HYMS (already had an offer for Glasgow)

My DD has Glasgow and Sunderland too - which med school does she want? I’m guessing Newcastle ?
