Well done on the interview @Notcontent. Hopefully UCL don't hang around much longer.

I love the idea of your daughter chatting away about Christmas jumpers @ipredictariot5 ! I think it's a really nice way to engage with the interviewers and hopefully she managed to relax.

Mumofboys2006 · 15/12/2023 21:06

Looks like there’s quite a few with scores similar to DS that got interview offers today from QMuL so fingers crossed!🤞🏼🤞🏼😬

Notcontent · 15/12/2023 21:59

@Mumofboys2006 it was 2940 but based on TSR it looks like the cut off was quite a lot below that. Fingers crossed for your DS !

Habbibu · 15/12/2023 22:09

Christmas jumper chat sounds awesome and shows good interpersonal skills!

Mumofboys2006 · 15/12/2023 22:17

Thanks yes he’s just checked again and he has an interview there too!🎉🥳
not until Feb though!

Notcontent · 16/12/2023 09:28

That is great news @Mumofboys2006 !!!

W0tnow · 16/12/2023 13:09

3 x IV down and 4th (invitation received yesterday) at the end of Jan (QMUL). Nerves are shattered. She appears to be chill 😎

Medhopeful · 17/12/2023 20:16

Hi, new to MN and this thread but desperately in need of some likeminded stressed mummas to share this nightmare process with.

DD had interviews for Oxford last week (4 in total for 2 colleges) and has interviews booked for Leeds and Birmingham (F2F) and Cardiff (Online) in Jan.

We have been planning for this for a very long time and it has completely taken over our lives. Anyone else finding the whole process harrowing?!!!

mumsneedwine · 17/12/2023 20:25

@Medhopeful my username is not an accident 😊. Came from my DD applying !

are you safely out the other side?

mumsneedwine · 17/12/2023 20:46

@Medhopeful yes. DD now an F1. But I continue to help students applying to medicine as I'm a teacher in a very low socio economic area. It's a very very tough process.

@Medhopeful you are definitely not alone! It’s a very stressful and time consuming process.

I think the fact that so few places are available obviously means that the application process needs to be more involved than other for other courses and also to ensure that the right people end up studying medicine. But the structure of the process is more complicated and haphazard than it needs to be I think. There is quite a bit of strategy and luck involved, in my opinion.

I am university educated but we don’t have any doctors or other medical professionals in our family, and also not British, so this has been a very steep learning curve for us.

Happy 2024 to all! 🎉
Hoping all your dc have good news to celebrate this year, whether it be news of interviews, offers or A level results!

A very happy new year to you all and your DC - really hope 2024 brings good news for them all! DD has her second interview of 3 next Monday so🤞- she won’t know what to do with herself when it’s “just” A-level revision to focus on!!

BerryHM · 02/01/2024 17:20

Yes please 🙏🏻

Randomactofkindness · 02/01/2024 17:21

Happy New Year all!
My daughter has her first interview of 4 on Thursday and I’ve just tested positive for Covid 🤯 - thankfully her Dad is taking her but I’m panicking she’s going to catch it and be poorly……….

OwlMother · 04/01/2024 18:49

Ds got an offer from Dundee. He's delighted as he wasn't sure how it had gone, it was the first one he did. Really pleased as we didn't think he'd hear anything until next week at the earliest with everything closed over Christmas.

Groundhogday2021 · 04/01/2024 19:34

Huge congrats to your ds @OwlMother !
it’s good to see the Scottish Med Schools getting on with it! 👍😊

Habbibu · 04/01/2024 19:40

Congratulations! It'll be quite weird if some of our children meet in university! Dd is going to make Dundee her firm choice

OwlMother · 04/01/2024 19:44

Wouldn't it be strange if they did?! It's nice to start to get a feel for what might happen next year. Dundee is Ds's second favourite, but it's a close thing. If he gets an offer from his top choice his plan is to go to both offer holder days and take it from there. If he gets no more offers he will firm Dundee and have Glasgow as insurance.

OwlMother · 04/01/2024 19:50

@Habbibu What does your Dd particularly like about Dundee? Interesting to get a view other than Ds!
