She says that she likes early patient contact, medical school based on hosp, open ward so 24 hour contact, early clinical skills, small cohort and big on student welfare. We are also fond of Ninewells for many reasons!

OwlMother · 04/01/2024 20:14

DS thinks similarly, especially about the smaller cohort. He can't really find any faults, I think the reason it isn't top of the list is that he doesn't have much of a feel for the city. He went for the open day but for the interview he just went up and straight back down. All other unis he has had an overnight or knows the city better. Maybe need to look at that.

Habbibu · 04/01/2024 20:17

City is small but friendly and on the up. Cheap, generally and v handy for beaches!

OwlMother · 04/01/2024 20:19

Ds is my third. All the friends of the older two who went to Dundee have loved it and speak very highly of it as a place to study!

Habbibu · 04/01/2024 20:20

That's good to hear! I did a post-grad there and liked it a lot.

Sybill · 04/01/2024 22:15

Hope your DD’s interview went well today @Randomactofkindness and that she stayed covid-free!

And congrats @Habbibu and @OwlMother on the Dundee offers - brilliant news! My friend’s brother trained there about 20 years ago and never left! It sounds like a really great place to learn, and very supportive

Randomactofkindness · 04/01/2024 22:21

@Sybill thank you - she said it was “ok” and currently still covid free - I am hiding upstairs!

Sybill · 04/01/2024 22:44

Excellent! Great to get one done and on to the next 👍

OwlMother · 05/01/2024 07:02

Well done on keeping her covid-free @Randomactofkindness! Ok sounds positive. Good the unis are getting going again so soon into the new year.

My dd is getting a little stressed and puzzled as she has not heard back from UCL even though she appears to meet all the entry criteria and has a high enough BMAT. It’s very odd and they definitely have her application as she received the usual acknowledgment etc. Should she try to contact them?

Scoobyblue · 06/01/2024 17:14

The UCL website says "Each year, we normally interview between 800-1000 applicants and will send invitations on a rolling basis from December 2023 through to March 2024. When you receive your invitation does not indicate a priority in terms of your application." She has no need to worry yet as only just over 25% of the way through their stated timeframe.

Sybill · 06/01/2024 17:52

@Notcontent a friends DD got an interview last year for UCL around Feb. It was just before half term when she heard. Her BMAT was very high (and 4 x Astars) so I assume they weren’t doing them in any kind of order

mumofmedic · 07/01/2024 15:01

Has anyones DC had a UCL interview yet? DD is stressed about travelling alone to London next week as I'm unable to accompany her. She doesn't have much understanding of the MMI and UCL is her first interview so could someone let us know about travel from kings cross to the campus and how long that she will be in the interview for?

Scoobyblue · 07/01/2024 15:59

There is a tube strike scheduled for next week. Most bits of the UCL campus are walkable from Kings Cross. It would be worth looking on Google Maps to see if that is the case for her interview as they are forecasting that very few (if any) tubes will be running.

mumsneedwine · 07/01/2024 16:06

Or hop in a black cab. They'll take her to the door.

I'd tend to agree with @mumsneedwine. If it'll save stress I'd say hang the expense and get a cab.

Ds hasn't interviewed at UCL but the three MMI he did all took about an hour. There's quite a bit on the UCL website which might be helpful.

Tube strike called off. Amazon what happens when you negotiate with unions, even with strike action on the cards. 🤬😡

Amazing even ! Sorry, mother of an F1 and beyond angry at the moment.

Offer tonight from Glasgow for DD. RUK non-contextual and UCAT 2750 so was v hesitant about applying
@mumsneedwine I hear your anger as a medic our poor juniors deserve better than a Govt who seem determined to blame them for WL for purposes of election

OwlMother · 10/01/2024 06:30

That's brilliant @ipredictariot5! Well done to your Dd.

Groundhogday2021 · 10/01/2024 06:50

congratulations to your dd! @ipredictariot5
🎉

Sybill · 10/01/2024 07:02

Fabulous news @ipredictariot5 , well done to your DD! She must be thrilled to bits!!

Habbibu · 10/01/2024 12:15

Congratulations!

speedyhedgehog · 10/01/2024 13:00

Congratulations @ipredictariot5 dd! That's fantastic news

Notcontent · 10/01/2024 15:20

fantastic news @ipredictariot5

my dd is a bit down this week - has had two interviews. One today, which was online - she found the format a bit stressful I think because they kept asking questions at each station until the 6 min was up, which means that on a couple of occasions she was cut off.

another interview later this month and still no word from ucl. She called the admissions office but that was not helpful!
