We are still waiting for St Andrews here... Offers from Aberdeen, Glasgow and Warwick. Rejected from Durham... St Andrews taking ages. Absolute agony.

Tenpastseven · 27/03/2024 13:50

@italianmama75 I just really hope they make decisions for the actual exams start. I heard stories last year of people receiving rejections on exam days!

italianmama75 · 27/03/2024 13:53

Seriously that is insane!!! I guess that is a possibility though with Scottish exams starting so early. Are you a home applicant?

Tenpastseven · 27/03/2024 17:12

We are waiting on Bristol. I heard that story about both Bristol and Durham I think last year. Not sure about the Scottish Unis @italianmama75.

TizerorFizz · 27/03/2024 20:19

When DD did art exams, several were in March. Had not heard from 2 unis at that stage. You just have to put uni choices to the back of your mind. No one can influence the decision-making. The unis do know when exams are but some don’t care. Art exams and prep for them is very full on. Plus dc have had to do portfolios and possibly interviews too all in the same term.

DD gave up waiting for Warwick and withdrew her application. She's firmed Bath with Exeter as insurance.

Edinburgh offers seem to have landed yesterday.

Rejection for DS, despite having nearly 30 UCAS points more than his friend who got an unconditional, so not sure what the hell happened there.

Was the same story with St Andrews.

I am now wondering what the hell was so devastatingly bad in his personal statement?

Poblano · 29/03/2024 18:49

Oh I'm sorry @zigzag716746zigzag

What is your DS going to do now?

Does his friend live in an area that would qualify for contextual offers? Bizarrely it isn't always the areas you'd expect - many of my DC's friends who have parents who are university professors qualified for contextual offers based on postcode.

zigzag716746zigzag · 29/03/2024 20:02

Thanks @Poblano He’s now deciding whether to take a gap year and reapply.

Same postcode as his friend. Of course there could be other circumstances making it contextual - you never know. Nothing we know of though. And I am genuinely happy for his friend.

DS does have special circumstances on his application (medical condition, and an almighty error from his last school meaning he got one less Higher than he should have). I am now wondering if the special circumstances section made his chances worse rather than better?

HewasH2O · 29/03/2024 20:12

No consolation to you @zigzag716746zigzag but DD was accepted by Oxford and turned down by Edinburgh a few weeks later on her 18th birthday to rub salt into the wound.

Maybe Edinburgh just sucks! (I presume she wanted Oxford over Edinburgh?)

Oh crikey, is that Edinburgh offers for IR?
DD has heard from 4, Edinburgh wE’ve been waiting and waiting for… but she has not heard a thing. <worries whether this is good news or bad news>

Have fingers crossed for your DS and other offers Zig zag

HewasH2O · 30/03/2024 07:12

@zigzag716746zigzag you have the right attitude! She took us to the pub and bought her first legal round of drinks whilst muttering darkly. Aberdeen is underrated. He'll have a ball.

italianmama75 · 30/03/2024 09:22

Well the special circumstances surely shouldn't have disadvantaged him? The entire process is so unfair and not transparent whatsoever. DD rejected from St Andrews with 6As at Higher...

Tenpastseven · 31/03/2024 17:23

I thought the whole point of the special circumstances was the opposite of discriminating?

TizerorFizz · 31/03/2024 20:39

@Tenpastseven Depends how many have special circumstances surely? If you become the same as everyone else by special circumstances, it just means a level
playing field. You then take your chances against everyone else.

Tenpastseven · 31/03/2024 20:57

@TizerorFizz yeah I guess.

We are off to the Leeds offer holder day the week after next (Weds 10th). Anyone else going?

Tenpastseven · 05/04/2024 17:49

Bristol rejection this morning for DS

GuestWW · 05/04/2024 21:28

Assume one might arrive here too

Tenpastseven · 05/04/2024 21:29

@GuestWW no news is good news!

zigzag716746zigzag · 05/04/2024 21:37

Sorry to hear that @Tenpastseven How has he taken it?

Tenpastseven · 05/04/2024 21:55

He's absolutely fine @zigzag716746zigzag . Thanks for asking. He's planning a year out so if he gets the 3As Bristol would want he may decide to reapply. We'll see. He'd be very happy with Leeds also - though the margins are very tight with all his offers so I will take nothing for granted till results day.

zigzag716746zigzag · 05/04/2024 22:00

That’s good 🙂

Calmmumnot · 06/04/2024 12:24

@Tenpastseven sorry to hear about Bristol! Glad he is ok though.

Rejection from Leeds (predictions AAB), but offers from York and UEA
