Has anyone applied and received offers in International Relations/Politics? where are the offers from? Thanks

Rejection from Kings, still waiting on Glasgow (top choice) LSE and St Andrews her

Poblano · 27/02/2024 11:04

We're still waiting for Bath and Warwick.

Going to the Exeter offer holder day on the 16th of March.

RedSeaQuestion · 27/02/2024 15:11

Also still waiting on Leeds for politics as they do not have a politics and IR choice. Has anyone heard from Leeds yet?

we have booked the Bath offer holder day for end March.

DC had mocks last week. Didn’t quite achieve predicted grades in mocks which is a worry. Has that happened to others?

spacechimp79 · 27/02/2024 15:20

My DS’s girlfriend is still waiting to hear from Leeds and Bristol.
I should imagine it is quite common that DC don’t meet their predicted grades in mocks. Hopefully gives them a kick up the backside to do more revision.

Smartysmitty · 27/02/2024 19:13

My DS is applying with 3As in hand. He got 3Cs in his mocks. Hope that brings some comfort!

Smartysmitty · 29/02/2024 16:56

Rejection from LSE yesterday. Has anyone else got any updates?

Calmmumnot · 29/02/2024 19:12

Sorry to hear that @Smartysmitty. Hope your DC is ok. Still waiting on two.

Sorry to hear. How did your DC take it? LSE would have been DD's first choice, but she bounced back pretty well from the rejection.

Tenpastseven · 29/02/2024 20:44

Yes sorry to hear that too.

Did you make it to the offer holder day at Nottingham @Calmmumnot? what did you think?

Smartysmitty · 29/02/2024 21:28

DS had already decided against studying in London so it's ok. He got an email from them saying his application was 'good' but lots of applicants etc. I suspect it goes out to everyone but it made him feel better about being rejected

Calmmumnot · 29/02/2024 22:22

@Tenpastseven we didn’t as DC was sick. What were your thoughts?

Tenpastseven · 01/03/2024 16:18

Yippee. Leeds offer has come through today. Just waiting on Bristol now but DS would be very happy with Leeds.

He really liked Nottingham @Calmmumnot even though it was a horrible windy and rainy day. Sports facilities are AMAZING! But I think he’d prefer Leeds and they are the same grade requirement so he’ll only put one of the two.

RedSeaQuestion · 01/03/2024 16:22

We got a Leeds offer today too. AAB. No date for an offers holders day.

decisions to take now between Leeds, Bath and York. Nottingham and Newcastle are I think out of the running although she liked them too but just not quite as much Not sure what to do about insurance as all are AAB offers. Is there any point choosing an insurance in that scenario?

Calmmumnot · 01/03/2024 17:20

Congrats to both of you @Tenpastseven and @RedSeaQuestion - great news! Decisions to be made now 😀

Yes definitely worth putting a second choice in case your DC misses a grade. You never know when a uni might accept lower results. They should put them in the order of preference obviously.

HewasH2O · 01/03/2024 18:31

Dd had this problem for PPE a while back. She contacted the Admissions Dept of her preferred insurance choice and asked if they had accepted anyone in the previous year who held an insurance offer who hadn't met the exact offer. They said no, so she chose one which did instead. York is likely to be more flexible than Bath. I don't know anything about Leeds.

Thanks gang!

So lots of us waiting for Bristol? Where else?

Calmmumnot · 02/03/2024 12:39

UCL and Durham waiting for those

We're still waiting for Bath and Warwick.

Joolseye · 06/03/2024 18:06

Hi everyone just found this thread super interesting. DD is excited to be studying international relations this year, has applied to Bath, Edinburgh, Bristol, Warwick, Loughborough. Has had 3 offers so far, still waiting on 2.

But my question is regards Loughborough actually, it was her 'safe' choice but it actually seems fantastic and upcoming including the rankings for politics (ranked 6th in subject in the Guardian! And here I was thinking they just did sports - plus up 13 places in the Complete Uni Guide in the last year), student satisfaction accommodation etc. We almost liked it better than the other more traditionally good unis - but it's not mentioned at all on this thread...

Has anyone heard anything at all about Loughborough - is it just v great marketing (student life/ accommodation looks so much better than what you can find on the Bath or Warwick websites for eg)?

GuestWW · 06/03/2024 21:14

Curious @Joolseye - has your YP heard from Bristol?

RedSeaQuestion · 06/03/2024 21:31

@Joolseye we seriously considered Loughborough after the open day as the campus had a really nice vibe but (a) the sample lecture DD went to was nowhere near as engaging as some other open day sample lectures (b) the town was really dull and DC could not imagine living there after the first year and (c) we worried that it just doesn’t look as good on paper as other unis we were looking at, its reputation is still a uni for fun and sports and maybe engineering.

KBBuniv · 06/03/2024 21:33

Half joining you - DD had her request to change her offer to Politics and MFL at Bristol approved this week; alas the offer holder day is full though

Joolseye · 06/03/2024 21:47

Thanks for the feedback @RedSeaQuestion, confirms what I guess we suspected on all accounts.

@GuestWW no re Bristol, only to be told shortly after applying back in November that they were putting her application on hold until everyone’s came through. Also waiting on Edinburgh but we were told by admissions on open day that last year only 43-45 (top marks) in IB got offers and she’s predicted 42. So not holding out much hope there. Luckily offers from Bath Warwick and Loughborough all came relatively quickly but she’s finding it super hard to decide …
