New thread as Part 2 about to fill.

OP posts:

@Ermengarde congratulations to your DD. Wonderful news.

@Pleasealexa the usual protocol on these threads is to either post the college or the subject but not both as it becomes very identifying for our DC if they are offered a place.

I echo the congrats and the warning on getting too specific - there are so few for each subject at most colleges.

Fingers crossed for lots more good news. This was worse period for us last year. DD1 got rejected without an interview a couple of years ago and the wait for DD2 was terrible as one of the last to find out and many at her school had already been rejected by then. She had sort of given up and was very stressed but the interview date came in the end. Wishing you all luck through this tricky time.

Redhotchillipeppers · 04/11/2023 10:42

@Ermengarde congratulations, that’s fantastic news. It’s good to see interviews coming in early. I thought it might be a couple of weeks before they started coming through. Certainly reduces the anxiety waiting.

Pleasealexa · 04/11/2023 11:34

@RIPMatthewperry, sure makes sense.

@RIPMatthewperry thank you for the warning, I was just about to post the college name! I’m really not knowledgable about this whole process and didn’t realise there were so few at each college.

section 7 of admissions guide gives a indication of the number of maths places at each Cambridge college.

Lots of other interesting info too.

Late to the thread, but DD is predicted 2xA*A and has had 4 offers in so far, with one unconditional - just waiting (very impatiently) to see if she gets offered an interview for Oxford.

I think I might be driving her insane as every time she mentions it, I send her this:

At least 1 of us is acting like an adult, but I am fairly certain it isn't me!

Also late to join but excited to hear of interview offers already. Really helpful to hear of other people's experiences. DS has applied to Cambridge but entrance exam 'only ok' so holding breath a bit here. Has had offers in from other unis so that is keeping spirits up. Predicted 4 A*s from a state comp.

Jaxx · 04/11/2023 16:53

@Ermengarde Congratulations! Best of luck for your DD!

Ermengarde · 04/11/2023 17:56

@Redhotchillipeppers thank you I hadn’t seen that document before, really useful info about interviews and STEP (I asked DD if she’d seen it, she looked at me like I was particularly stupid and said yes of course! 😁)

Lol! I only came across it today.

@NoShitHemlock Gosh, one doesn't hear of unconditionals often any more. What a great position to be in. What subject?

She will be doing a Psychology degree (not straight Psychology but having read the thread I don't want to "out" her as the Oxford course only accepts a handful of students).

Revengeofthepangolins · 05/11/2023 22:01

Yes some of the more exotic courses are tiny :-)

stoneysongs · 06/11/2023 09:55

Good news here - I have permission from DD to wade into the EPQ debate - she said she didn't want to do one as she's doing 4 x A levels, her tutor said she had no choice and it had to go on the UCAS form. But now she's happy for me to get involved so fingers crossed I can get her out of it 🤞

Jaxx · 06/11/2023 11:07

Best of luck @stoneysongs - my son got a lot out of his but nobody should be forced to do one. Plus doing one in Y13 even if you haven”t got 4 A levels on the go is crazy!

mondaytosunday · 06/11/2023 11:33

Good hope you knock some sense into them! My daughter also got a lot out of hers but was doing three A levels. Madness to do it with four (and if not already done at this stage totally insane).

It appears that the Cambridge 2024 thread on student room now has an interview tracker spreadsheet on it.

lifeturnsonadime · 06/11/2023 18:25

DS has the offer he really wanted from KCL so the pressure is now off for Oxford! Phew!

RIPMatthewperry · 06/11/2023 18:30

Congratulations to your DS @lifeturnsonadime

ShanghaiDiva · 06/11/2023 18:59

@lifeturnsonadime congratulations to your ds! Fabulous news!

stoneysongs · 06/11/2023 19:24

Great news @lifeturnsonadime
Now he can relax a bit and see what happens next!

lifeturnsonadime · 06/11/2023 19:34

Thanks all, I think he is fairly relaxed to be honest. Oxford is just a shot in the dark, even KCL was beyond wildest dreams until recently.

The next few weeks are a lot easier if there is an alternative that they are really happy with though, I'm just glad that this one has come through before the interview decisions.

Such high pressured times for all of them. Fingers crossed for everyone waiting for news.
