New thread as Part 2 about to fill.

OP posts:

Although the scores were very different. 8.9 from summer TMUA mock and 7.2 the week before the actual test. Will know on the 28th I guess!

Rzim · 30/10/2023 19:24

Just heard that the CAT results (Classics Admissions Test) that the kids did 10 days ago will not be used in the admissions process due to the problems with the test on the day (freezing repeatedly)

What a total F*ck up / these kids spent months working for an admissions test that will now not be used - feel very sorry for these candidates.

Redhotchillipeppers · 30/10/2023 19:30

You’d think they’d test the system more vigorously to ensure it won’t crash when it needs to work.

Pleasealexa · 30/10/2023 20:35

@Redhotchillipeppers both of those scores would give a reduced offer. Well done your son.

O2HaveALittleHouse · 30/10/2023 23:05

It’s a brutal year to be in admissions in Oxford!

catmomof3 · 31/10/2023 06:30

I'm starting to think the reason they can't mark these essay based tests is because the technical issues were so bad that some or maybe all of the tests never actually submitted properly when completed.

Revengeofthepangolins · 31/10/2023 07:58

Interesting theory - sounds possible.

Dafrty · 31/10/2023 08:24

I also thought that @catmomof3 . The subtle shift from not formally using them to not marking them made me think some of them had not even been received. They literally couldn’t mark in that instance.

badger2005 · 01/11/2023 07:21

Very useful thread - thank you Lightsabre

Rollergirl11 · 01/11/2023 10:30

Hi all, thanks for new thread @Lightsabre.

DD is applying for English Lit at Cambridge. Predicted 2 x A*, A plus A in EPQ. She has also applied to Durham, Exeter, Warwick and Lancaster. Offer from Exeter so far. Goes to a state school who are very supportive pushy.

She has her mocks next week so is busy revising for them. Unfortunately means no interview prep has been done so far. Another set of mocks in Feb. At least she’ll know if Cambridge off the table by then.

Redhotchillipeppers · 01/11/2023 15:12

My DS has mocks next week too, and again after Feb half-term. Good luck to all DC with their mocks.

RIPMatthewperry · 01/11/2023 15:58

Goodness me, 2 sets of mocks? That’s a lot for them, isn’t it. Mocks after Feb H2 here. Good luck to them all, especially those having to resist the tests. I guess for those of us with DC not affected by Maths, Classics, Languages or English, the question is, did the tech submissions go well for the other subjects…?! Such a shame that there is this added layer of stress for them all.

MirandaWest · 01/11/2023 18:13

DD has one set of mocks straight after Christmas. So if she gets an interview at Oxford (big if obviously) then she will find out during her mocks what the outcome is.

PumpkinKnitter · 01/11/2023 18:17

Mocks this week and in February here too. The BMAT means not as much work has been done for this set as DD would like, but can't be helped! Results are used to help decide predicted grades for those who haven't done early entry, but at least hers are already done and dusted.

spacechimp79 · 01/11/2023 19:27

DS has mocks in January. Going to be a fun Christmas holidays 😬

MirandaWest · 01/11/2023 20:59

Going to be like that here too @spacechimp79 ….

Hi all, I’ve discovered this thread very late! It’s so helpful to read about other people’s experiences.

DD is applying for maths at Cambridge. Predicted 4 x A star but she also did TMUA and said it went v badly. Has offers from Warwick and Bristol. Bristol is fairly low though so that’s taken a little of the pressure off.

O2HaveALittleHouse · 02/11/2023 04:38

@Ermengarde congrats to your DD on such good offers already. What was her Maths offer at Warwick? She doesn’t need TMUA it sounds really so she’s in a great spot. Great to see!

It great to have offers in. Takes the pressure off.

can I ask how long after the application went in did the Warwick offer come through. My DS had only received an acknowledgment email so far.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 02/11/2023 09:02

My DS application went in on 6th Oct, he had an acknowledgement email from Warwick on 10th October and his offer came on the 31st October.

Ermengarde · 02/11/2023 09:36

Thanks @O2HaveALittleHouse the TMUA really knocked her confidence. Warwick offer is A star A star (maths & FM) and then either another A star or AA.

@Redhotchillipeppers her offer came on 31st, approx 4 weeks after submitting.

JossTheBoss · 02/11/2023 09:50

I’m just popping on to wish all of your DC the very best of luck. I was on last years thread and found it so useful.
it felt like a year of waiting. For the predicted grades, the interview, the offer, the exams, and then most nerve wracking of all, the results.
DD is now at Cambridge and absolutely loving it.

Maybe she will get to be a college mum to one of your DC next year!
good luck all x
