I wanted to get a news thread ready for everyone as you wake up in the Uk.

We are settling into a routine of talking to DS on FaceTime on Sunday mornings after our breakfast, which is early pm his time. It is so nice to see his smile and catch up on how he is doing. I know at some point he will have a bad day, but so far he seems to be doing so well, I am ridiculously proud.

Yes, she graduated today. Was your dd today too?

It was a beautiful setting - I'd not been into the cathedral before and loved it. I thought the organisation was really good. We hardly had any waiting around, and plenty of time for them to chat as well. Loved being able to come away with the photo of her shaking hands too, so I was able to send that to Dm who's too far away to come.

Dds graduation isn't until November so we have a little while to wait.
She is settling into working life now though and seems fairly content with things at the moment.

@MargaretThursdayAhhh I guessed as much looking at the line up of degrees on Insta. DD’s was Wednesday and I also hadn’t been inside the Cathedral before. I was lucky enough to sit on the right hand side right by à pillar so watched her cross the stage, shake hands then walk right by me so had a perfect view. I loved how they all lined up at the end to parade down the centre. So moving.
Congratulations to your DD 👩‍🎓Oh and we also bought the photo of her shaking hands and await the professional ones when they come through.

DD started at her Primary School teaching job 1st Sept so had to get a cover teacher to take over her year 1 class. It was a long day full of excitement and also emotional as won’t see a lot of her friends again for ages and she’s already gone down with her first cold of the term so yesterday and today she’s found it hard to get up but it’s now the weekend!! Such long days and early starts and so much paperwork and she’s also got to complete two years of ECT training too so “uni” is not fully over but at least for this she’s being paid 😁

Thanks @AnneOfCleavage, her degree is sports and exercise nutrition as this is something she lives and breathes due to her sport.

She is working as a temporary ta in a send school, it allows her evenings to train so is working well for her at the moment. Her coaching skills are proving helpful and the school staff seem to like her which is positive but most importantly she has built relationships with the children.

Depending on staffing requirements and other irons in the fire for her means this may not be permanent but for now it works well.

Lovely to hear about graduations and jobs, as well as those still studying. I think all of us on the thread are super proud of your dd @AnneOfCleavage- you must have been fit to burst on graduation day. What a wonderful outcome for her, and best of luck with her littlies 💐.

Dd is working wherever she can find it - currently a NT cafe and a very cool record shop/craft beer bar. Most importantly, the bedbugs are gone! Phew.

@Downsidesupsidethat sounds like a great job complementing her degree nicely. If she can drop hints to the children on healthy food choices all the better 🤪 - start when they’re young and all that. What is her sport of choice?
DD chose PE as her specialism (as dance is her passion) and it’s definitely helping as she has to teach PE as a twice weekly subject.

I’m thrilled about the bedbugs - what a horrid time! Wasn’t your DD thinking of doing an MA? Is she having a gap year? Her jobs sound very cool too 😁

Yes, @AnneOfCleavage , dd and her friend are both planning MAs at the same place but there was a funding glitch that meant they had to defer and have a kind of enforced gap year - which I think will be no bad thing for either of them. They both need a bit of time off the treadmill.

So lovely to hear everyone’s up dates! DD goes back to York for her 4th year next week. She’s been offered a job from her ‘year in industry’ job but it’s not really what she wants to do so is currently applying for graduate roles - seems odd to already be applying for jobs that don’t even start til next September!

@ZittiEBuonii think à gap year is a fantastic idea and gives their brain a nice recharge. DD had one in between À levels and Uni and said that had she not she would have quit Uni in the first term but being a year older really helped… and having some funds 🤪

I bet DD’s industry year job will help a lot with graduate job applications @NotDonnaI wish her all the best for her last year at Uni.

Your dd sounds fantastic. Glad the school gave her the day off. Hope she loves her first year teaching.

Dd's got an agent and in the process of auditions etc. She's got booked one thing round Christmas, which is great that she has something, but hoping that more will come too.

So good to hear everyones progress with, uni, job and gap years! Taking DD up to Shefield later today. She moved in a couple of weeks ago but came home for a quick visit. The new term starts on Monday and she has already connected with fellow students on the MA course so that has helped her settle. All the best for the coming year.

DS went up to Newcastle on Monday but is already back here as he’s going to a gig in Leeds tonight. He’s going into his final year as he was in Utrecht last year.

All seems fine with him - not sure what his future plans are but he’ll be all right I think

Took DD up to York last weekend. She did a placement year with the civil service last year, in Leeds, so now has her final year of her maths degree to do. She's living in much nicer accommodation this year. She was only on track to get a 3rd from her 2nd year exams though - she works really hard, but she's finding the course very difficult. I think she'll do a lot better this year though - she been able to choose options that will suit her much better. She seems quite happy, I'm crossing my fingers for a good year for her this year.

How is he doing? I seem to remember that he really enjoyed Utrecht?
