UEA - anyone's dc going in September

Hi, dd is going to UEA in September and just wondered who else's dc are going. It's looks a great uni with a lovely campus. (Wishing I was that age again and could do it all again 😂

My DD is starting again. She went last year and decided she was on the wrong course, but loved the uni. Unfortunately she couldn't swap, so is restarting this September. Have you got accommodation sorted?

That's good she enjoyed the uni.
Yes dd has ziggurats, norfolk terrace.
Is your daughter on campus?

DS is going into his second year, he likes it there and his first year has been a really positive experience.
He has chosen to live in halls on campus again.
He has a part time job in the student union bar so your Freshers might be served drinks by him.

I'm sure my daughter will be ordering lots of drinks at the su bar😂 but hopefully studying aswell.
I think the halls she is in are the social halls.
It does seem that everyone that goes to uea have a great experience

No she was in Crome Court last year. It was a beautiful room, but it was a flat of 13 and she found that was too big for her. The Village is just off campus so a bit quieter and a flat of 6 so should suit her better.

I have heard the village is a lovely place to have halls.
My daughter is very pleased she got zigs as she loves it being busy and social. Wouldn't be my first choice😂

No not mine either. We looked round them at an open day and DD said she thought they were like living in a submarine 😆 Lovely sized rooms though.

My DS graduated from UEA last year and was in the Ziggs - Norfolk Terrace. He actually loved it despite no ensuite which was no problem at all. He said what's the point in going to UEA if you aren't going to stay in the buildings that symbolise it?
Elder DS was in the Village and was not so keen as the flat mix didn't suit him, though he like the ensuite

DS2 fell in love with the Ziggs (and Norwich) when I dragged him along with DD and myself to the latter's offer holder day in 2019 (DD subsequently decided to firm Birmingham, but having just graduated has now moved to Norwich to work for a while).

At the time, his intention was to study Architecture - which would have meant NUA rather than UEA - but he eventually settled on History of Art instead, so there he is. And got his first preference of the Ziggs in first yearWink.

We like visiting Norwich (and DS2 likes being treated to lunch at the Modern Life Café at the Sainsbury Centre when we go). DD lives near the city centre, so her plan for parental visits is for us to work our way around the myriad food outlets in the market (we can recommend the Jerk Chicken).

My son will be going in September too. Allocated Suffolk Terrace Zigs, he's delighted. Anyone know when we have to pay for accommodation and is it split evenly per trimester?

Once UCAS finally updates so he can accept it, my DS is going to UEA. He’s had to make a decision to decline a place at Birmingham to get to this point so it’s been a very long week and obviously he has no accommodation sorted yet either.
We actually live in Norfolk and the UEA is about 40 minutes from us so he could in theory commute but he wants a proper Uni experience.

DS received an invoice for accommodation after moving in. There's an option to pay in installments but they have to sign up for that via the website.

I enjoy visiting Norwich. We try to do one visit mid-term. The campus has ample parking but not much to do for visitors, although the Sainsbury's art building is nice. The city centre is more difficult for driving and parking but has more to do. We've visited the cathedral and the market and the Waffle House is a favourite with DS.

Not sure when payment is due but my daughter got an email yesterday saying that she should get another email in the next few days to register with the uni. Thus will then give her access to course details etc. Maybe with that will be more info. regarding accommodation

Two years ago, DS2 had accepted his accommodation offer on or before August 11th (the day he forwarfed that to me), and I got this email from 'Accounts Receivable' on September 2nd:

You have been named by one of our students, xxx, as willing to pay for their Accommodation fees. You can specify how you would like to pay these, as well as set up a Direct Debit if necessary, at https://evision.uea.ac.uk

Having followed the instructions, about a month later, I got an email with an attachment showing that payment would be due by the 20th of the month in October, January and May. There was also a nine instalment option.

(Somewhat different from DS1 and DD at Birmingham, where some payment had had to be made upfront).

@mrsconradfisher UEA always seems to have loads of accommodation so there should be something for your DS once he manages to accept his place! What course is he going to do?

At Birmingham he was doing Sports Science but at UEA he is doing the PESH course, which is Sport, Health and PE. That’s good about accommodation, fingers crossed he hears soon.

DS2 just finishing his 4th and sadly final year at UEA, although committed to staying in Norwich.

he has massively enjoyed his time there, even with the covid disruptions toward the end of his first year, and through much of the second.

to those starting next month I wish them all the very best - they’ve made a great choice!

@mrsconradfisher it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for your DS, but hopefully he is happy with his decision. Certainly in year one their were a couple of DCs is DS’s hall flat who were very local to Norwich, but had plumped to live in halls, and seemed to really enjoy and benefit from that.
