My DD loves Sylvester. She nearly missed her coach home one day as she was giving him a cuddle. She got the coach but missed getting any lunch before getting on 😁

You gotta love a university that has its own resident cat!

Have your DC met Sylvester yet? I thought of him the other day, when I saw a tweet about a three-legged ginger cat which acts as a hospital greeter somewhere (having lost the fourth leg in an accident on its way either to or from work one dayShock), and right on cue, DS2 (3rd Yr History of Art, home fir reading week) has just shown me a picture of 'Sylvester staring into a bush'Wink

I've just asked her if she's met Sylvester. He seems to really enjoy uni life (I may have joined the Facebook group)

Good visit with DS today. We had coffee at Unio, took him to Sainsbury's to stock his fridge shelf & food cupboard, watched the sun set behind the zigs and went to the SU bar for a drink.

He has been burning the candle at both ends, but he had a good time at last night's Halloween event, despite getting soaked with freezing rain in the queue while dressed in not much more than some bandages (made from torn up old white t-shirt).

As an ex UEA mum I can recommend the coffee shop in the Sainsburys Centre and also the larger cafe there. Lovely views, decent food and parking right outside.
I'm glad your DC are all having a good time, its a great place to be a student and it's a lovely town for parents to get to know.

Yes, the food in the Modern Life Café is a big draw, although DS2 did turn down the offer last time we were there, because he had a friend staying and they had made other plans (his sister, who works on campus, was more than happy to be bought lunch there before her shift, however). Since the reason we were in Norwich in the first place was for a joint birthday celebration for DD and myself, we had had a 'proper' night out the previous evening at the Blue Joanna on Unthank Road, with DS2, DD and one of DD's friends. We can recommend the food. And the house red. And the cocktails. We chose to book there for its rep and the fact that it was in easy walking distance of our hotelGrin

Glad everyone new to UEA is enjoying it, and that it continues to enchant (sorry if thats a bit gushing) older hands.

We are off to Norwich this weekend for the first BUCS match of the season. Hopefully the pitches at Colney will no longer be submerged.

I wonder if any of you are still here! My dd looking to start this September. Obviously no ZIGGS! We are looking at accommodation and the only cheap one is Orwell close or wolfson close.

We can't really afford the en-suite ones, anyone's kids in either of these with shared bath and what did they think?

Seeline · 25/03/2024 22:12

@0ranges my DD is at UEA, but I don't think she knows anyone in that accommodation. I thought it was for post grads only, but possibly with the loss of the Ziggs they've opened it to all?

Thelostgirls · 29/03/2024 08:27

@0ranges my daughter is at Uea and she doesn't know anyone one in those accommodation either. But my daughter is really enjoying it at UEA and is a lovely campus

Can I ask how your young people find the nightlife at UEA/ Norwich?
My DS has an offer and we love the course and campus but he is underwhelmed by Norwich and is concerned about the nightlife (one of the main things he is looking forward to in uni life).

Seeline · 05/04/2024 19:30

There's a night club on site which has a couple of events each week, as well as a variety of gigs. There are student bars on site too.
There are a range of clubs, pubs, bars and restaurants in town, as well as cinema, galleries, museums, shopping and a great market. Something for everyone.
DD loves it.

Tumbleton · 06/04/2024 23:39

@Itstoday DS and his friends go out a couple of nights a week.
On campus they often go to A-List at the LCR, and/or Sports Night.
In the city they sometimes go to Bar & Beyond, or others (Waterfront etc).

Itstoday · 07/04/2024 07:43

Thanks both. I got the impression the union was good and I think DS would be happy there, but coming from London I think he was a bit surprised my the size! The other option is Sussex which I think would give him
more of a nightlife outside the university.

Seeline · 07/04/2024 08:10

My DD is from London and really loves the uni and Norwich. Plenty to do, just a bit different.

Cafeconleche · 09/04/2024 13:46

@Itstoday We’re from London and my DS is about to go into his 4th year at UEA (currently studying in the US on the exchange programme) He’s loved his time in Norwich and has found that there are more than enough clubs and bars to keep him entertained, as well as the SU club nights. He had offers from Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham and Sussex and doesn’t feel that he’s missed out on the nightlife experience. Plus off-campus accommodation has been plentiful and relatively cheap. One of his best mates went to Sussex and loved Brighton, but found the accommodation almost as expensive as London.
