Good to hear positive experiences from other UEA students via this thread.

Thelostgirls · 23/08/2023 17:46

Does anyone know their move in date? Dd stressing as we are set for Sat but now someone has told her it's Friday?

Seeline · 23/08/2023 18:39

@Thelostgirls Their move in date is the date given as the start of their accommodation contract. I think it could be the Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Seeline · 23/08/2023 18:41

@keiratwiceknightly mine's doing archaeology, anthropology and history of art.

I have very happy memories of studying at UEA in the 90’s (singing Oasis songs on the way to the LCR 🫣). It was such a fun time, I can’t believe how long ago it was now! I hope all your kids have as great an experience there as I did.

Thelostgirls · 23/08/2023 19:27

@Seeline thank you. Do you know if the same accommodation and same flat can have different contract start dates? My daughter is stressing that hers is sat and everybody else in her flat is going to get there on Fri!

My DS graduated from UEA last year and was in the Ziggs - Norfolk Terrace. He actually loved it despite no ensuite which was no problem at all. He said what's the point in going to UEA if you aren't going to stay in the buildings that symbolise it?
Elder DS was in the Village and was not so keen as the flat mix didn't suit him, though he like the ensuite

I'm in total agreement with him. My daughter's girlfriend is going to UEA soon and I spent a considerable time telling her much I liked the Ziggs, how iconic they were and how I'd be straight in there if I was 18 and could go to uni. She was not impressed with the shared bathroom sadly and neither was my DD. The rooms are ace - fantastic views, big windows, loads of space... I thought they were the best ones on campus really.

It looks a fab uni and everyone we met there was really friendly. All the students we spoke to loved their time there. And rabbits just hopping about everywhere! Plus the student union had really good bands advertised.

My daughter is going in September to study Paramedic Science. She is living in the Village. We loved UEA when we visited and found it so friendly...

Thefatbutteredpig · 23/08/2023 23:31

My daughter starts in Sept too. Studying medicine.

In Barton/Hickling

We’ve been really impressed with the accommodation offer from UEA.

Seeline · 24/08/2023 09:36

@Thelostgirls yes they can have different dates. In DDs flat she has found 2ither girls +they are all returners) one stayed over the summer and is moving in at the beginning of September, DD on the Friday and the other girl on the Saturday. Still to find the other 3 occupants.

Seeline · 24/08/2023 09:41

@DailyMaui I agree -from the outside the Ziggs look great and the room size is brilliant. But the windows mean they are cold in winter and hot in summer, and all DDs friends had buckets in their rooms to catch the drips from the leaking roofs! I hope I'm not putting anyone off - they all love being there but can understand some not wanting to live there.

Thelostgirls · 25/08/2023 06:45

@Seeline thank you.
My dc did all her registration etc. yesterday and had a look at her accomodation contract and it definitely starts on the Saturday so she is now back to being chilled and excited about it all

Last year I think accommodation sent a message about a week before to book actual arrival times, so keep an eye out for that.

madasamarchhare · 25/08/2023 20:50

My dd has just finished her first year at UEA. It wasn’t one she’d originally considered and had applied through clearing. To say she has had a blast is an understatement. She has absolutely loved every single aspect of it, made some lovely friends and can’t wait to go back in sept. I have nothing but positive things to say. We stayed in Norwich for a few days around her birthday as well and it’s a fabulous city. Lots to do, felt very safe.

keiratwiceknightly · 03/09/2023 14:27

Any parents of 2nd years+ know if the jobs in the accommodation (specifically village) are induction or just standard for normal pans?

Seeline · 03/09/2023 14:34

Pretty sure they are normal ones.

CointreauVersial · 04/09/2023 13:07

Popping into to say your DCs will love UEA. DD1 has just finished, after four years, and she's missing it (and Norwich) already. The Village is a great place to live, even though you couldn't swing a cat in her room!

There were various WhatsApp groups popping up before she started so she was able to make friends with the people in the same accommodation.

Thelostgirls · 08/09/2023 15:56

Dd has just had an email to say that all the zigs accomodation isn't going to be available because of the concrete issues. Very stressed daughter at the moment

OP posts:
Cafeconleche · 08/09/2023 16:24

@Thelostgirls oh no! Have they offered alternative accommodation? Or when the work to the ziggs might be completed?

Thelostgirls · 08/09/2023 17:35

The email was quite vague saying they will be provided alternative accomodation while checks are carried out and that further information will be sent next week

I just saw this story on the news and they said 750 rooms were affected, in case that's more info than the uni is sharing at the moment.

Tumbleton · 08/09/2023 18:53

@Thelostgirls how stressful for her, I hope she gets confirmation soon about where she'll be living.

Tumbleton · 08/09/2023 18:53

DS has a rather ambitious plan for moving in day. He'll arrive in Norwich early afternoon (can't get a lift any earlier). Then he'll unpack his own stuff, then two of his friends have asked him to help carry/unpack their stuff. He then has a work shift from 4-10pm. Then a party / pre-drinks. Then he and his friends are dressing up as characters from a well-known DreamWorks movie for a welcome event.

boys3 · 08/09/2023 19:04

Hopefully given the iconic status of the Zigs the checks are just precautionary and any disruption to freshers due to be living there will be short-lived. Looks like an email went to the entire student body as DS2 who’s a postgrad there had received one about it.

UEA has a fair bit of accommodation, but finding space for 750 (?) would be a stretch. Hope none end up too far from Campus.

Thelostgirls · 08/09/2023 20:03

Thank you for info. What news Channel was it on?
