I have started a new thread as our previous one is nearly full. Name changed so I won’t forever be the OP. Originally for non early entry applicants I am sure anyone who would like to can be on this thread as we wait for final decisions to come in, negotiate UCAS extra and hope that the results will match the offers come August.

OP posts:

Thank you. The international data and where U.K. HE sits globally is interesting too.

NotDonna · 16/04/2023 22:07

How’s everyone doing? Any more offers? Offer day visits? Revision going ok? Applied for Finance etc? DD will do the finance application tomorrow after school as we totally forgot over the hols.

stilldumdedumming · 17/04/2023 09:10

Offer day at Queen Mary on Wednesday and then that will be decision time as the clock is ticking on accommodation already!

WendyWebersdrugget · 17/04/2023 11:36

Ds got 2 offers in total and only one was exactly what he wanted - but he’s really pleased with southampton, accommodation application is in. Just need the grades now.

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 17/04/2023 12:47

Still waiting on one decision - I don't know why he doesn't withdraw but I am not getting involved as it is not my place. I can't see any offer being much below the one he wants to firm. Student finance complete. Accommodation not released yet. I suspect a rejection is coming but at least he will have at least his first choice offer and a good insurance offer. It's such a lottery that I wont miss this next year!

Tree543 · 17/04/2023 12:50

Still waiting on Bath for Comp Sci. It's not ds's favourite but I think he just wants to know one way or the other.

Does that mean he can’t apply for accommodation?

We’re waiting on Bath for one but it’s not his favourite, I think he needs to reject and accept to access Leeds for mechanical engineering

Beth is mechanical and electrical

MarshaBradyo · 17/04/2023 12:52

Bath

Tree543 · 17/04/2023 12:58

It's fine he can just wait as his favourite is Birmingham and their deadline for accommodation is ages away.

bguthb90 · 17/04/2023 13:25

Still waiting for Durham. Their self-published deadline was April 21st, and admissions say they're aiming to hit this. A lot offers/rejections at the end of last week so looks promising they will.

Edinburgh admissions still AWOL - DS has given up on them and will withdraw if he hears from Durham

hellypad · 17/04/2023 13:47

DD applied for Finance last week, she is only eligible for the minimum amount so we didn't bother with the parental part. She has registered for accommodation for her insurance, Birmingham, but doesn't need to do anything for her firm, Warwick. I can't believe exams are only 4 weeks away now!!

troppibambini6 · 17/04/2023 14:25

We went to an offer holder day at Sheffield on Saturday as dd was unsure whether to go with Newcastle or Sheffield for her second choice.
We weren't impressed with the open day for Sheffield, a bit chaotic and the law school was shut as it's was being decorated Confused
Offer day was much better but dd felt Newcastle suited her better so she has decided
Leeds first, Newcastle second.

She has applied for finance and now need to apply for accommodation. We found out Leeds isn't first come first served as we originally thought so that's good.

Hope everyone else is good, nearly there now!
Feel like these exams are coming towards us very quickly!!!

Same here.

MarshaBradyo · 17/04/2023 14:29

It’s nervy for them but so exciting

I know they need to get the grades before celebrating but dd said he has just 12 school days left

It really reminds me of finishing school. That heady excitement, can remember it so clearly

Anyway exams first and results

DreadlocksMadeMeHappy · 17/04/2023 14:34

Ds has the offer he wants and we went to the offer holders day on Saturday. He's swapped numbers with a couple of the other students and is completely ready to get there and get going!

I think he may have already moved into halls in his head! He's made me laugh though, because for his 18th birthday someone gave him a blank recipe book and he says he can't go till I've filled it up with all of his favourite recipes. I have a feeling it may be a total waste of my time as I think he will live on instant noodles. But we'll keep that dream alive a while longer yet!

MarshaBradyo · 17/04/2023 14:36

That should be Ds..

TheFallenMadonna · 17/04/2023 14:40

Still waiting to hear from Warwick post interview. Will probably go for Lancaster anyway, but she wants to know either way. Unconditional offers here as DD did A levels last year, so once decision is made, that's it.

lovefizzycolabottles · 17/04/2023 16:03

Really happy for those of you who can now make plans. At this end DD still waiting on UCL economics but on TSR a five A star candidate was rejected this am - as well as someone who has already achieved 4 A stars so the longer it takes the more pessimistic we get. The Bath offer day is full so that's annoying - I am thinking that maybe we should just turn up on the day (I'm assuming her waiting list place wont come to anything)...

Peverellshire · 17/04/2023 16:09

@lovefizzycolabottles why these rejections?

mrsconradfisher · 17/04/2023 16:10

DS has finally made a decision after the huge disappointment of the Loughborough rejection. He has firmed Birmingham and Insured Surrey. Doing the accommodation for Birmingham tonight and then finance. It’s all feeling very real now.

lovefizzycolabottles · 17/04/2023 16:31

@Peverellshire the 5 a star one says ‘competition’ as the reason, a 3 star and A was ‘predicted grades’, other 4 A stars not competitive enough….assuming people aren’t fake posting on TSR .Who knows at the end of the day what the reasons are. But this is for a course advertised as A star, A, A. Would like dd to know now and be able to think about next steps. Hopefully this week…

Peverellshire · 17/04/2023 17:08

Yes, fingers crossed for your DD. It all feels a bit unfathomable to me, hence starting thread. ‘Competition’ meaning others stronger? Contextual competition? Weak PS?

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 17/04/2023 17:18

Those rejections are seriously 😳
DS1 has 4 offers and a rejection. Last one finally in late last week from Brighton. Got an offer holder day 29th for his favourite so if it goes well will firm that and start accommodation and finish finance app. Its UWE im Bristol (Fine Art) so having horrid dreams daily about him having no where to live..he's unconditional tho so won't need an insurance.
DS2 has 4 offers (3 medicine and 1 normal) 2 offer holder days done 1 to go. Currently it's between Sheffield and Birmingham having ruled out Exeter where all lectures are still on line for medicine!. He enjoyed the offer holder day on Sat at Sheffield so it depends on the offer day at Birmingham this Sat. Then we need to finish finance app and sort accomodation.
Then I can breathe and he can concentrate on his A levels!!!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 17/04/2023 17:19

DS has now visited his two potential firm unis. He liked the one with the worse reputation better. He will probably need to sleep on it. At least all the decisions are in from the unis for him. He likes his insurance uni and visited there ages ago. Another option of course would to be firming that one…….

Revision has definitely ramped up over the holidays. I think he has a month left of lessons before the exams start. Just hoping he will make the grades now.

Azure · 17/04/2023 17:47

DS has now submitted his college preferences for Durham. I really sympathise with those still waiting to hear from their choices. Five weeks today until his first A'level; a sobering thought.
