I have started a new thread as our previous one is nearly full. Name changed so I won’t forever be the OP. Originally for non early entry applicants I am sure anyone who would like to can be on this thread as we wait for final decisions to come in, negotiate UCAS extra and hope that the results will match the offers come August.

I admit that I don’t know this for sure but I would say that for 2024 entry they won’t differentiate between the deferred (now) unconditional and accepted offers and the firm conditional offers for accommodation. Hopefully one of the advantages of deferring.

NotDonna · 28/04/2023 21:39

@tealgate she needs to call admissions for the department she’s applying to - the email and phone number will be on the uni website. If she finds her course it’ll probs be at the bottom when she scrolls down.

DS2 has firmed Birmingham and insured Sheffield for medicine
DS1 and I are at UWE offer day and think he will firm that after sleeping on it tonight for Fine Art. Its unconditional so no insurance needed.
Birmingham don't do anything with accom until results day. Then firm choice people get a random slot ti apply over the following week and you use 'choose your room'.
UWE have a 3pm on 10th June application date and there's not enough accom to go round so that's going to be a nail biter.

My DS has also firmed Birmingham and “chosen” his preferred accomodation, although he knows he isn’t likely to get it. I have a feeling it’s going to be a complete nightmare!

Tree543 · 30/04/2023 08:07

My ds is also going to firm Birmingham and insure Loughborough. I thought accommodation from Birm was chosen after results. What do the have to select for accommodation at this stage?

Weddingmum · 30/04/2023 09:13

Is anyone still waiting for offers? DD still waiting for Durham, it seems like they haven't made any offers all week, whereas Edinburgh seem to be issuing offers/rejections

TheFallenMadonna · 30/04/2023 09:53

Still waiting for Warwick. Would probably go for Lancaster anyway, but she just can't bring herself to withdraw from Warwick until she has a decision from them.

bguthb90 · 30/04/2023 09:55

DS still waiting for Edinburgh, as are several others he knows. No communication from them since acknowledgement of application in Autumn.

Ds2 has made an accomdation account, filled in his bio and made one preference I think. You are right it's after results day.
My DS are both away with no Internet on their respective accom booking dates/ timeframes so I am going to have to do it for them so I need specific detailed preferences from them!!

Thanks. Do you know the purpose of selecting the one choice? Is it to give an indication of their preference e.g if the one they select is The Vale /self catered/ shared bathroom then they will be given this type of accommodation to choose from after results day.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 30/04/2023 15:23

If I remember it's to gauge demand. Has no bearing on their application.

Yep that’s how we interpreted it. DS really wants Chamberlain, I’m hoping if he doesn’t get that then at least he’ll get something similar (Mason perhaps, if he can get over the bathroom!) as he really wants an en suite.

NotDonna · 03/06/2023 09:13

How’s everyone doing?
I’m not sure half term is helpful. Feels like it’s dragging out the process. She didn’t go anywhere or do anything. Still studying but I can tell the motivation is waning. There was a little distraction in choosing a prom dress, which is now bought. My eldest also has professional exams on Monday and youngest end of year exams, so I’m tiptoeing about whilst they all revise. 🤣

mondaytosunday · 03/06/2023 09:37

Daughter is revising most of the day so don't see her much. Three exams to go (finished Art beginning of May so just six exams). She definitely did need the half term to decompress a little (took one day off from studying).
She's applied for Art Foundation diploma next year and only heard from UAL a week or so ago, but had already accepted elsewhere and I believe will stick to it. She's just been diagnosed with MS so just as well she will be staying at home next year to adjust to her treatment.
She doesn't need stellar grades (portfolio is all important) but is predicted to do well and is determined. But is really counting down the days - keeps saying things like 'in two weeks I'll be finished forever' and can't tell you how happy she was to bury those Tudor kings and queens for good!
So unlike most of you we have yet to go through UCAS, and are only just starting going to open days (did plenty for FAD, some of which do degrees, but she wants to leave London). Looking at places like Falmouth, UWE, UCA Farnham, AUB, ARU, U of Herts. I'll have to join the 2024 applications thread!

Neversaygoodbye · 03/06/2023 09:54

@mondaytosunday all the best to your DD, can't imagine the stress of exams and the diagnosis.
My DD feels she's benefited from the week to get in some much needed revision for her next 5 exams. She's studying hard but taking breaks too for some gaming and reading, not much of a social butterfly - it will be interesting to see if this changes at Uni. DS doing GCSE's much less revision going on but DD was the same at that stage so I'm trying not to stress too much.

PettsWoodParadise · 03/06/2023 11:01

Half term has definitely not been a positive experience for DD. She has over worked IMO and is moody and stressed. This is very out of. character.

She has almost cut herself off from friends who are partying and having days out. She did go out one evening but I am not sure it was the tonic I think she needed, she felt guilty about it and whatever I say it doesn’t seem to change that.

Three exams next week, by end of Tuesday Classical Civilisation will be done and dusted, last of the three exams in that subject. Then another week gap until her last exam, Poetry on Friday 16th June

@mondaytosunday all the best to your DD, she sounds amazing staying positive in the face of her diagnosis.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/06/2023 13:13

2 exams on the trot for dd next week.
Law, business studies and then maths.

She has a tutor for maths to boost her confidence in that subject after getting a v high A in pure maths last year at AS but only a C in stats and mechanics. She has chosen to resit that paper to try and boost her grade.

Collage have sorted her with extra time for her exams after she told them she found concentrating difficult. I find it laughable...3 x A at AS last year, but I suppose they play the game well to get the best results they can and they said that some test or other did prove she had slow processing.

Then only one final exam - Maths - the week after that on the Tues.

Leeds will send through an Access to Leeds assignment after results day if she gets in.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/06/2023 13:13

3 exams on trot....

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 03/06/2023 16:03

There has been more work than we have been used to from DS over half term but we have the opposite problem with balancing this with other fun things. He has his last Economics exam on Monday, Maths starts on Tuesday and then Chemistry the following week. Just three weeks to go. I agree half term hasn’t really helped as I think he has lost momentum but I guess a bit of a break from relentless exams is a good thing too.

lastdayatschool · 03/06/2023 16:22

Sounds similar to my DS's schedule @DrMadelineMaxwell

Economics Monday, Business Studies Tuesday and then Pure Maths Thursday; followed by Applied Maths - final exam 🙂 - the following Tuesday.

Ohnononono4 · 03/06/2023 16:43

I agrée half term been tough. Mine had very intense start with art followed by 3 exams in quick succession and will be finished by end of next week. Definitely waned in terms of energy and focus which I think is really hard to sustain and had the odd real wobble about not getting grades for offers.. it’s a very tough time for them.

WendyWebersdrugget · 03/06/2023 16:49

3 exams done before half term, 3 next week, 2 the week after and that’s it.
@mondaytosunday wishing your dd every success with treatment and applications. She sounds amazing.

mondaytosunday · 03/06/2023 17:50

Thanks everyone. She really is amazing. She has had issues for years which could individually be explained away but all together we knew something was wrong. Her latest symptoms (tingling and numbness on her right side while taking her mocks) must have been a big red flag and after taking her history and an MRI they told us almost right away they thought she had MS.
It has affected her writing - she said by the end of exams she can barely hold her pen, but it's only in History that's she's taken rest breaks. The school has been very supportive.
Anyway, loads of kids have a lot to deal with outside the classroom.

HappySonHappyMum · 03/06/2023 21:05

One on Monday - two on Friday next week - nothing like spreading them out. Can't wait until next week is finished for her to be fair. History and Sociology on Friday - her hand will fall off!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/06/2023 21:18

2 on the same day is unlucky. Writers cramp indeed!
