Wow well done those with new offers and so good to hear the resilience of those planning a gap year and the positive stories of gap years, maybe not plan A, but not a plan Z either.

@BritishDesiGirl my DD is going to firm Newcastle so any and all tips gratefully received. Starting with accommodation...! Also anything unexpected (good or bad)? TIA

My son is first year at Newcastle and loving it.

He is in the halls in Park Terrace, 5 min walk to med school. Loves it.

he also looked at Kensington Terrace and Park View, both 5 mins from Med school and RVI hospital

Fantastic news @kackle

Wise words @Conventgirl82 and well done to your DD. What a journey she's had! And well done to you for supporting her through all of that! It's hard enough helping them navigate a 'straightforward' route, your's must have felt seriously long and difficult at times.

Absolutechaos · 23/03/2023 21:25

Thanks @kackle and congrats to your DD.

Africa2go · 23/03/2023 22:33

So pleased to read more good news! Well done to all the DC getting offers in the last couple of days.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 24/03/2023 07:14

Off to Bristol tonight staying at the YHA ready for the offers day tomorrow- any suggestions of what to do / see in the short time we are there?
Which is the best accommodation area?@mumsneedwine @Monkey2001

mumsneedwine · 24/03/2023 07:51

@coffeeandbiscuittime the accommodation in town is worth a look (not sure what will be open but they are pretty similar), and then if have time get the bus to Stoke Bishop to look at that. Go to the Great Hall for all the info - it was the inspiration for Hogwarts and where they graduate. Take a tour of the Uni by one of the students. And wander down to the Harbour if near Orchard Heights. It's v pretty.

mumsneedwine · 24/03/2023 07:53

@coffeeandbiscuittime didn't see you were there tonight. Fab restaurant on the boat at the head of the harbour, think it's called Under the Sky. Tapas and pizza and v yummy. Could then wander up Christmas steps (Bristol has hills !) and look round the Uni campus bit before it gets v busy on open day. Or go on a Banksy tour.

Our Bristol Offer has come too late for the open day tomorrow.

Please let us know how you found it.

We opened a bottle of fizz to celebrate last night and spent some time looking at accommodation. DD is ever so happy with her offer as I think there were only 20 odd places on the gateway course.

bguthb90 · 24/03/2023 08:25

@kackle - you probably know this already but, if not, Bristol have a final offer holder day on Wednesday 26th April.

Thanks for letting us know.

We only got the track update last night, no contact from the uni as yet.

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 24/03/2023 12:14

Just a quick message to apologise for disappearing and offering heartfelt congratulations to all those with offers.

sincere thanks to all those who have shared their experiences and advice - it has given us a small opportunity to discuss with DS and he is adamant that he wants to take a gap year, work and reapply so all this to look forward to again!

In happier news, he took his driving test this week and passed first time!

@MerchSwyddEfrog whereabouts in Wales are you? We’re SE valleys if you want to message x

Monkey2001 · 24/03/2023 13:25

@coffeeandbiscuittime I lived in Manor Hall 30 years ago - great location, but modern students want en suite. If shared bathroom would be acceptable look at Goldney and Manor.

Monkey2001 · 24/03/2023 13:25

Goldney has beautiful grounds with a grotto.

jasminetrampoline · 24/03/2023 21:26

DD wants to book accom for Southampton tomorrow if she can, does anyone have any top tips?
Thanks

MerchSwyddEfrog · 24/03/2023 22:44

Congrats on all the offers.

@IGoWalkingAfterMidnight we are in Cardiff so sounds like we are close. Yes it would be nice to message.

Hi how does she decide between 38 and 40 weeks accommodation? It's a bit confusing

My daughter has just gone for the village - much cheaper ensuites (which she really wanted) than Freemens. She is a gap year student (as she didn't get any offers last year) and had a friend at Leicester who's really enjoyed being in the village.

jasminetrampoline · 25/03/2023 20:07

@Rinkkk she has put in her choices, it is quite expensive as she wants en suite. Also there is so much we didnt know - we didn't know what contract length she needed, so she put some as 38 and some 40 weeks, but it looks like those will both be fine. I had better start saving!
That is assuming she gets the grades to get in there...!
