I think they were interviewing today for the people who were invited pre-Christmas so am assuming admissions were busy today with that and might have more time to send out new invitations tomorrow Grin Here's hoping! I am far too invested in this process Grin

Thethingswedoforlove · 09/01/2023 18:43

@Africa2go you’ve been reading the same tsr posts that I have been reading I think! And same….

Anyone else on hold post interview with Bristol?

Yes my dd is!

Cratos · 09/01/2023 21:26

mumsneedwine · 08/01/2023 18:52

@Cratos you are supposed to own up and repay the loan while abroad. In reality, no one does !

Thank you for your response. It is good to know that they are allowed to work abroad.

lookingoutforlinda · 09/01/2023 22:26

St Andrews interviews start this week. My DD has one. This is her top choice so fingers crossed.
She has found the MMI style interview suits her skills more than traditional panel so is content St Andrews is MMIs.

Fitby50 · 10/01/2023 10:24

Lancaster invites to attend for an interview out today. Now just one to go to as still on hold 🤞. Hope all the Oxford students get good news today too🤞

Cratos · 10/01/2023 10:43

My DS received an interview invite from Bristol today. Good luck to Oxford applicants. Hope they receive good news.

Africa2go · 10/01/2023 16:55

Leeds interview offers starting to come through on TSR it seems.

Cathpot · 10/01/2023 17:48

Just had a phone call from a friend whose DS was rejected from medicine at Oxford today. She wanted to talk to someone so she would be less upset when he got home. I said what I hope were the right things, but I really felt for them all. He does have an interview with a Exeter to go and is still waiting to hear from UCL. It’s so hard for these kids to take rejection like this when they feel they have done everything they could.

He has been set on medicine since year 10/ straight A* predictions/ very good BMAT. He felt the interview had gone well- he said it was very relaxed (even though he was actually pretty ill at the time with Strep A) he was even sharing a joke with the interviewer. He is a very amiable likeable boy so I can imagine this. 2 other kids from his school got offers with worse scores so the interview must have let him down in some significant way.

Anyway the point of my ramble is does anyone know if Oxford give feedback on rejections and if they do what the time scale is? It would be useful for him to have it before his next interview in case there is something they picked up that he can work on.

Cathpot · 10/01/2023 17:52

@Cratos - I miss that bit of good news for your DS in my wittering, very well done to him. Not until you go through this that you realise what an achievement just getting to interview is! I hope it goes well.

@RockyHorrorShow

Thank you I will pass that on.

Cratos · 10/01/2023 19:06

Thank you very much. We didn't really manage to celebrate since he is ill with Strep A and has got a mock tomorrow 😱 and his last mock was after his interview so it is a pretty stressful month. This is the 4th illness in the family now and hope it is the last one. I am like a nurse in the house constantly.

Cathpot · 10/01/2023 19:42

That sounds grim, for everyone. Hoping he recovers quickly - really tough that everything comes together at once.

WithIcePlease · 10/01/2023 19:43

@Cratos under the terms of contract, SLC must be informed if you move to work abroad. The SLC then has to be paid directly. It seems you are responsible for currency change charges. If not told, there are penalties and you can be required to pay loan back as a lump sum.
I would not be at all happy breaching a contract and imo it would bring probity into question.
It may not have been applied thus far but that's no guarantee that breaching a contract would be fine

mumsneedwine · 10/01/2023 20:13

Got to find you first. And prove it. I'm afraid I find the debt medical students have to get into if they don't have rich parents totally abhorrent. It's not a level playing field and it's not fair. And they change the contract rules so it's not what they signed up for 5 years ago.
Looks like junior doctors planning a 72 hour continuous strike. Good. Maybe someone will realise their worth.

Well done everyone on the new interviews. Offers will start trickling in v soon

Monkey2001 · 11/01/2023 09:20

@Cathpot Oxbridge interviews are not like other interviews, so rejection there doesn't mean he will struggle with MMIs. DS1 got 4 post interview rejections first time round and 3 offers from MMIs and a rejection from Cambridge second time round. They will provide feedback - for Cambridge the school had to request it for DS. Details will be on website.

The basic problem is that there are more people who would do well on the Oxbridge courses than there are places available, so there is a huge dollop of luck required!

@WithIcePlease I am with you on the repayment of loans if you work abroad, would feel very uncomfortable about evading it and leaving it for the tax payer to pick up unless the terms of the loan were changed. My feeling is that fees should be higher and pay should be much higher so that people don't drop out so much post qualification - something like wiping out the loan over first 10 years in NHS . The current system is a fudged graduate tax and we need funding which incentives people to stay in NHS but also more transparent about the true cost so people don't study medicine and then just decide to do something else.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 11/01/2023 11:21

Haven't posted for a while. DD is interviewing at Manchester today. Fingers crossed!!

Still waiting to hear from UCL... not very hopefully!
