Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

DS wants to do Human Geography and now has offers from Leeds, Manchester AAB and Southampton ABB. He much preferred Southampton but now thinks he should go to Leeds ( we didn't get to the open day) or Manchester because they seem better for geography.
How do you tell which in better?? He's very shy so I think he should be closer to home and the university he really liked.
But I haven't told him that.

He should definitely go to Southampton. Having the right feel for a place is crucial. Just because they’ve asked for lower grades doesn’t mean they are worse.

Leeds is very much a full on party university. I have a goddaughter there at the moment as a fresher. She is very much an outgoing party type but she’s been shocked at the amount of ketamine being done. She is on a fairly large corridor and says it isn’t isolated it’s very common. She’s having some doubts about whether it was actually a sensible choice for her.

Southampton is a good solid Russell Group university.

@user73 Thanks that's really helpful.

Ciri · 21/11/2022 07:24

Ds1 had very strong feelings about places after visiting. Loved Lancaster, hated Birmingham. On paper quite similar universities, always near the top of the listings. Both campus universities. Both have a mixture of older and newer buildings. Both good for his course. The feeling they get makes a massive difference I think to how settled they feel when they get there.

MarchingFrogs · 22/11/2022 10:42

He doesn't have to pick his Firm / Insurance for months yet. The offer holder days will give him a chance to revisit his choices, or visit, in the case of Leeds.

SmartWatch · 22/11/2022 13:48

Hi all I'm joining in as amazed to say that DS got offers for Business this week after the school submitted his application last week. Am very surprised as he is not an academic superstar but glad he has got some options. So far he has only had the comunication via the ucas form and an email from one. None mention any next steps. Does he need to confirm or regster anything? Will they let him know about offer holder days (hasn't visted them all) or do we need to look them up?

The universities should contact him to invite him to the offer holder days. Some put quite a bit of info on their websites, so it's worth him having a look (it's usually in the 'visit us' section) to see if he can get an idea of when the days are likely to be.

Wrt replying, he can't submit his Firm /Insurance choices while he still has applications outstanding. All these details are in the 'Undergraduate' section on the UCAS website

Thanks, no he knows he has to wait for all 5 to come in, I meant more does he need to register on their websites as being a candidate or anything. Friends of his had to but that was for a subject wherer they had to submit a portfolio so that is probably why. I think he is just so amazed to have offers he wants to email them and say thanks 😂

KittyMcKitty · 22/11/2022 14:58

Well done to all the dc who have submitted their UCAS forms / received offers - amazing!

Dd still waiting to hear from Durham and Sheffield - Durham has highest tarried of her 5 and Sheffield the lowest. Whilst it’s only been just over 2 weeks the waiting is tedious. Does anyone know of any dc who have had non contextual, home fee status offers yet from Durham?

Aww that's lovely! DS still waiting for a decision from Leeds. We made it to the Newcastle open day at the weekend and he liked it so it looks like that is his favourite at the moment. But still plenty of time for it to all change.

Ciri · 22/11/2022 16:31

First offer in for ds1 from Lancaster so he’s happy. Two day turn around was a stress reliever!

SmartWatch · 22/11/2022 16:34

Excellent! What subject can I ask?

Brilliant news - what subject? I think quite a few of us have dc with offers from Lancaster which is great!

@KittyMcKitty I think Durham are always pretty much the last to offer as they read all of the personal statements and usually don't offer until May; we were told this at the open day.

History and international relations.

KittyMcKitty · 22/11/2022 19:28

Well done ciri’s dc - brilliant news.

dd has just been given an offer from Sheffield so she’s v lucky to have 4 great offers to choose from - as is always the way the one she’s waiting for is the one she desperately wants 🤞🏻

Onceandfutureking · 22/11/2022 22:25

Lovely to hear everyone's news about offers.
DC has 4 offers and just waiting on the one that he thinks will be his insurance choice if they do offer.
Currently 3 offers at AAA and one at AAB. (Standard offer at the one he's waiting for is also AAB).

DonnaGiovanna · 23/11/2022 07:37

Am I the only one waiting for the school to do their thing? Internal deadline is November 30th, dd has submitted her application but still waiting for her tutor to write the reference.

To be fair it's a huge 6th form and they have a lot of early applicants, but she's starting to get twitchy seeing others getting offers.

Neversaygoodbye · 23/11/2022 07:42

@DonnaGiovanna our deadline for submission to college is this Friday, DD has struggled writing personal statement so that's just been sent to Tutor for approval. I don't expect the college will be sending straight away, maybe by 30th, but we haven't been told dates.

DonnaGiovanna · 23/11/2022 07:51

Ah, thanks NeverSayGoodbye, good to know we're not alone in this boat. Well done to your dd for conquering the dreaded personal statement.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 23/11/2022 07:57

DS is also still working on the personal statement. His internal deadline is this Friday. I am hoping it will be all sorted by then but I guess a few more days for the school to do their thing.

ChnandlerBong · 23/11/2022 09:48

@ShowMeABrexitBonus my ds is also applying for Meng at similar unis. How is your ds getting on? Anything back from any of them yet?

Neversaygoodbye · 23/11/2022 15:33

Daughter had her personal statement approved this morning & UCAS form submitted to college by lunchtime today. Now we wait 😬

SmartWatch · 23/11/2022 16:49

Good luck! tell her to look out for the UCAS email about a 'Status change on her account' - it is way more exciting than the email you get from the National Lottery telling you you've won £12 😁

I was thinking today how strange it is that I've been thorugh all the MN forums now with DS1 to arrive at this point - Conception, Pregnancy, what to buy for a baby, Chidbirth, Baby Names, Childminders and Nannies, Nursries, Primary School, Secondary School and here we are now in Higeher Education! Crazy!

RainBow725 · 23/11/2022 18:06

Well done for everyone's DC with offers and good luck to those still waiting. My DS got an offer from Birmingham today to add to the other 2 already in. Today's offer is his first choice - although he's applied for two courses at Birmingham so he may still change his mind! But as things stand, he's got his first choice and insurance offers in so first hurdle over with.

RainBow725 · 23/11/2022 18:08

@Ciri My DS1 is doing IR at Lancaster. He loves it. Always glowing about the lectures. 😊
