Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

KittyMcKitty · 15/11/2022 23:51

Well done to your ds Rainbow and fingers crossed you hear good news from Birmingham very soon. We’re still waiting on Sheffield and Durham here 🤞🏻

Congratulations to your DC on the offers coming in. So many possibilities for their futures in some amazing cities.

sammyjoanne · 16/11/2022 18:12

DD2 has submitted hers today. She was waiting on her subject teachers with the references part.
Her course titles vary with each uni

Reading - Zoology
Chester - Animal Behaviour
Lincoln - Zoology
Lancaster - Zoology
Bangor - Zoology and Animal Behaviour

Top choice is Reading followed by Chester. Lancaster her eldest sister goes there studying particle physics and cosmology. DD1 did apply in 2019 Oxford,Leicester, Lancaster and York. She loved York too, but Lancaster was cheaper in accommodation and 3 years in she loves it. Lancaster I think will be her forever home now.
Reason why DD2 chose Reading was it was a green campus, accommodation is great and the course just blew her away.

sammyjoanne · 16/11/2022 18:27

Just reading second page on predicted grades and what uni is advertising when making choices. I do think its good to have a mix of entrance grades. We never know come February when DC are doing their mock exams and their grades have slipped in the past few months of Y13. Or go the other way and improve.

BruceIsACake · 17/11/2022 11:33

DS sent his form off yesterday and has already been invited for interview at York for robotics. Hadn't realised they interviewed!

Aurea · 17/11/2022 11:48

@BruceIsACake

Congrats on the interview offer!!!

My son is also considering applying for robotics at York.

May I ask if the interview is in person or done remotely? Also did he realise they interviewed when he applied?

BruceIsACake · 17/11/2022 11:56

It's in person in mid Jan. York was a last minute substitute so I'm not sure he'd clocked they interviewed but email says it's standard process to interview before offering. We're pretty local so in person is ok.

Aurea · 17/11/2022 11:58

Thank you!

We're in north Scotland so it's a five hour train journey from here. I'll pass this info on to him.

Best of luck!

HELP
DC has missed a GCSE from their ucas application. (Maths, grade A.)
They are filling in the form to UCAS but is there anything else we can do?
Application was sent October 12th.
Panicking now.

Southernbellas · 17/11/2022 12:37

Hi everyone, my dd is wanting to study Primary Education with Qts. she is applying to
Durham
Manchester Met
Sheffield Hallam
Liverpool John Moores
Edge Hill
hopefully she will hand the application in to college tomorrow. so nerve wracking. She will have to interview which adds to the pressure. Is anyone else concerned that this cohort have never sat a formal exam? My dd grades seem to be quite inconsistent so I am just hoping for the best.

BruceIsACake · 17/11/2022 12:45

Didn't her school do mocks for GCSE? Our school still did GCSE exams, just not the official ones but they still counted in working out their assessed grade. Same for A- level, we have the 3rd set of mocks in Jan.

Southernbellas · 17/11/2022 15:38

Yes, they did loads of past papers in-house but I don’t think it’s the same.

RainBow725 · 17/11/2022 17:41

@HighlandsButterfly has the application gone to UCAS or just school? School can revert it back to you before they submit it to UCAS.

RainBow725 · 17/11/2022 17:44

@Southernbellas I know what you mean but my DS school has done everything they can to prepare them I think with mocks done in strict exam conditions in the same hall they use etc. I am not too concerned about that. Hopefully most schools have done similar.

Thanks for the reply!
It had already been sent to ucas. However, we think it's a technical fault as there's a note on ucas saying they have an issue with apparently missing or rogue qualifications. This would make sense as we checked and triple-checked when we entered the GCSE's.
Anyway DC has informed ucas and also all the unis.

PhotoDad · 17/11/2022 18:29

Every year, as someone who helps students with UCAS, I wonder why UCAS can't just get the GCSE results from the exam boards; they do on (or just before) A-level results day! They already ask for exam-board centre number. Ah well.

Looneytune253 · 17/11/2022 20:54

My dd has put hers in too. She's wanting to do paramedic science in edge hill. Based in Manchester but main campus is in Liverpool. Her predicted grades are A star AB so she should hopefully get an offer as the grades are bbc. Only sticking point is she needs to have her driving licence before offer day which she doesn't have but she's working on it. It's all very exciting and very very new as she's the first one to go to uni

Titsywoo · 18/11/2022 11:26

My DD submitted hers to college last night. It has already been checked by her UCAS tutor and teachers so is now with careers dept. Should get submitted to UCAS quickly as I doubt there are any problems (been checked several times!). She is applying for Psychology Bsc at Cardiff, Exeter, Manchester, Bournemouth and Sussex. Exeter and Cardiff are her top 2. Her boyfriend is already at Cardiff but I'm hoping if she gets an offer there she doesn't base her choice on that fact! 🤔

Titsywoo · 18/11/2022 11:44

Although Cardiff entry requirements are A*AA and her predicted grades are AAA. However they do lower one grade with an A in EPQ. She is still waiting to hear how she did in her EPQ so fingers crossed!

Shlo · 19/11/2022 07:40

The waiting is torture for parents!

How did you even realise this?

HighlandsButterfly · 19/11/2022 12:45

Because DC was showing a friend their UCAS application and one GCSE wasn't there on the list. It just didn't appear.
After some panic, we did realise that as DC has had an offer already which requires that particular GCSE, it must have been a technical issue on the part of UCAS, which they confirmed.

NotDonna · 19/11/2022 13:12

Ah I see. Thank heavens it didn’t actually go out to universities like that. Albeit if it had I’m sure they’d have queried a missing maths qualification given it’s a compulsory one.

Joshanddonna · 21/11/2022 05:48

DS wants to do Human Geography and now has offers from Leeds, Manchester AAB and Southampton ABB. He much preferred Southampton but now thinks he should go to Leeds ( we didn't get to the open day) or Manchester because they seem better for geography.
How do you tell which in better?? He's very shy so I think he should be closer to home and the university he really liked.
But I haven't told him that.
