Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

Still waiting for an Edinburgh, St Andrews (RUK candidate) and Durham for History. DD going to Exeter open day tomorrow (3 x A offer). Hoping something comes through soon to help motivate through build up to A levels. Great predicted grades but mock results not supporting them and motivation is flagging…

NotDonna · 03/03/2023 11:49

@Travelban that sounds like a lot of offer holders to attend. Is your DC quite unsure? DD attended York offer holder as she missed the open day. She’ll attend the Bath one too as the open day itself was a ‘mini’ one. She would have gone to Loughborough’s but her NEA is due the day after so that’s taking priority. But she went to their open day so m not sure it’s vital in her decision making.
For those waiting have the opportunity universities messaged saying anything. I think DD was a little reassured by the messages from Bath.

Travelban · 03/03/2023 11:55

@NotDonna we didn't do any of the open days as DD1 took a long time to decide which course she wanted to do and we didn't get a list of unis together until just before applying.... !! Still, only two to go now !!

DinkyDaisy · 03/03/2023 16:16

Pleased to hear your dd has got an offer from Bath. Ds off there tomorrow. Will let you know how he gets on!

LionsandLambs · 03/03/2023 19:41

Yay Durham offer today. All back, now the decision process

hotmilkytea · 03/03/2023 19:43

@NotDonna yay that's amazing, great news, your DD must be so happy! So nice for her not to have to wait until the end of April!

@Travelban that's a great list of offers for your DD. Our oldest is a linguist and went abroad, but would've gone to Newcastle if staying in the UK, she was very impressed with the uni and loved the city too.

Patience to all those waiting, I can't fathom how awful it must be to be waiting up until the last day 😣

DS is off to Staffs offer holders tomorrow - by himself. Its probably the first choice so he's looking forward to going again to refresh his memory.

@hotmilkytea thank you for that tip!.where did your DD go.abroad, if you don't mind me asking? Bern looking for DD but a bit lost for options

Thanks, and to yours. It was for PPE.

blametheparents · 28/02/2023 21:58

@NotDonna and @concealer141
DD has PPE offers from Exeter, Leeds, Sheffield and Southampton.
@concealer141 - where are you waiting for?

Maybe controversially, but I really like the Sheffield option. From the open day it seems like they really try and teach it as a coherent course and bring the cohort together to discuss what they can learn from P and P and E. They have a PPE department (albeit small) where at other unis you’re part of, say, the philosophy department. Obvs you still do modules in each individual aspect, but I really liked the idea of trying to bring it together.
But, it’s not my decision! So - over to DD to decide!

We were waiting for Durham, UCL and LSE. Got Durham PPE today thankfully!

KittyMcKitty · 03/03/2023 21:15

Congratulations to the dc getting Durham offers today. Dd has firmed Durham and insured York. We’re off to the offer holders day on 22nd to try and decide how she wants to rank the colleges.

Seems like lots of Durham offers went out yesterday. DSs friends both got them too. We are in Exeter for offer holders day. Went out last night in the city and DS loved the full on studenty vibe. It felt so safe and compared to our home city is just immaculate - so clean!!

Riverpebble · 04/03/2023 17:01

We have a Liverpool geography offer here

ShowMeABrexitBonus · 04/03/2023 21:52

Still not heard from Leeds!! (MEng). Have offer holder invites for Manchester and Newcastle which happen to be DS's preferred.

One is on a school day but think/hope we'll get permission to go.

A lot of travelling again in the next few weeks from Cambridge to the North East and the North West!

NotDonna · 05/03/2023 00:02

Great to see all these offers rolling in after a bit of a lull. Huge congrats to all the DC and good luck for those waiting!

Titsywoo · 05/03/2023 10:20

Still waiting on Exeter psychology. I've seen some have had their offers so wondering if there is a problem or if they send them out over a period of a few weeks?

WendyWebersdrugget · 05/03/2023 13:55

Still waiting for Manchester, UCL and Bristol. Have offer holder day for Southampton later this month so DS quite cheery but I think he’d really like a Manchester offer as well. But pleased he’s feeling positive about the one he’s got.

Exeter offers in tiers. So they offer first to 3 x A star applicants, then to those with 2x A stars and an A, then to those with 1 x A star and 2 x As etc

Ah ok that is helpful. DD is AAA (she also has an A in her EPQ but I don't think Exeter care about that).

They do. DS has a reduced offer for EPQ from Exeter

NotDonna · 05/03/2023 22:48

Yes @Titsywoo my friend’s DD had a reduced offer for psychology from Exeter with her EPQ and reduced further if firmed.

blametheparents · 06/03/2023 07:34

@concealer141 and @LionsandLambs
Fab news for your DCs re PPE at Durham.

NotDonna · 06/03/2023 08:03

Have DCs all had mocks now?
DD had hers week before last so the results are slowly trickling through. She’s done ok but needs to do a bit better. Hopefully they’ve marked on the tight side rather than too generously.
My eldest had Xmas mocks and they said then that a grade higher would be likely in the real thing but these mocks have been significantly later so not sure the same uplift can be expected. Plus they’ve still a fair bit to cover for each subject.

Travelban · 06/03/2023 08:15

Dd1 had mocks beg of January and came out one grade lower than needed in every subject. We are just hoping that with a big push she will be able to make the cut. Difficult to know what to expect, especially first time round.....

cmcc22 · 06/03/2023 10:40

DS sitting first (and 2nd) mock today. Think his are really late but should mean he's covered almost all the course. An offer from Leeds and UCL this week would be just the boost he needs to keep him motivated
