Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

4 offers for PPE is fab @blametheparents does she have a favourite yet?

concealer141 · 28/02/2023 21:24

blametheparents · 28/02/2023 15:12

DD has had final decisions from her remaining two unis this week - a rejection from Warwick and an offer from Exeter (for PPE).
She is happy with all four of her offers, and knows it's a competitive course and that offers were not a given.
Just got to achieve the grades now!

4 PPE offers is truly fantastic! Do you mind me asking which 4? We are also waiting for 3 PPE offers

blametheparents · 28/02/2023 21:58

@NotDonna and @concealer141
DD has PPE offers from Exeter, Leeds, Sheffield and Southampton.
@concealer141 - where are you waiting for?

Maybe controversially, but I really like the Sheffield option. From the open day it seems like they really try and teach it as a coherent course and bring the cohort together to discuss what they can learn from P and P and E. They have a PPE department (albeit small) where at other unis you’re part of, say, the philosophy department. Obvs you still do modules in each individual aspect, but I really liked the idea of trying to bring it together.
But, it’s not my decision! So - over to DD to decide!

NotDonna · 28/02/2023 22:13

Is Sheffield controversial? I’ve a friend whose DS is there doing engineering (not sure what type) but certainly enjoying it, no issues etc.

blametheparents · 28/02/2023 22:40

@NotDonna - I just meant that for PPE there are probably other unis with better reputations. It’s a fairly new course at Sheffield so not much reputation has been built up.
Personally, I think it’s a lovely uni and a fab city and would be very happy if DD went there.

NotDonna · 28/02/2023 22:42

Ahh I see!

This is really important. dC at one stage wanted to do PPE snd we went to various open days but it’s so disjointed at many places. It’s literally doing three separate subjects. The courses that tie them together are far more valuable.

Still waiting for UCL; King's and Bristol.

Travelban · 02/03/2023 12:08

For those of you waiting for UCL, DD1 just had her offer for Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American studies and her friend for Economics. Neither contextual. Her friend was an early applicant whilst DD1 applied in November.

We waiting for UCL economics. Don't suppose you know friends predicted grades?

NotDonna · 02/03/2023 18:17

My DD had another email from Bath yesterday saying that they’ve lots of applicants, still carefully considering her application and are aiming for 30th April regarding a decision (a couple of days later than her previous email said). She’s well aware that it may be a rejection on 30th April though.

DinkyDaisy · 02/03/2023 18:38

Can you remind me what subject @NotDonna? Must be so frustrating for your dd. Sure ds got offer for politics and IR earlier because deferring a year...

hotmilkytea · 02/03/2023 18:41

Congrats to all those offers coming in, some fab ones there!!!

Fingers crossed for all those waiting 🤞🤞🤞

@NotDonna 30 April seems so far off... Hopefully it will be a yes, it's the favourite option, no?

@Travelban I didn't realise your DD is a linguist, that's fab, I'm biased because I did languages! What offers does she have so far and what's the favourite?

Travelban · 02/03/2023 19:02

cmcc22 · 02/03/2023 16:22

I am pretty sure it's 3A* and an A... fingers crossed you hear very soon !!!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 02/03/2023 19:03

That's all of them through for ds1 now.
St Andrews sent a proper letter through the actual post.

We're hopefully going to take him to Aberdeen tomorrow for a tour as that's currently his favourite.
Fingers crossed it helps him make up his mind.

NotDonna · 02/03/2023 19:04

@DinkyDaisy & @hotmilkytea she’s fairly laid back about it as totally out of her control. But yes, it does seem quite a wait. She’ll still need great grades either way so that’s a priority. A friends DD was rejected from Bath on their cut off date last year, so she knows this happens. Yes, Bath is her favourite but I’m now thinking it’ll be what it is and often with these things they find a path that still works for them. She’s two other great options (only applied to 3 universities). And if she misses the grades it’s not the end of the world. I know so many in the year above who missed grades but have succeeded and actually been a blessing!

lovefizzycolabottles · 02/03/2023 20:30

@cmcc22 my dd still waiting on ucl economics too - it’s the last one to hear back from…

It's a long wait isn't it. DS still waiting on Leeds and UCL. Hope it's not too much longer

londonmummy1966 · 03/03/2023 00:49

Just waiting on Durham for history now. GIven all the publicity about the difficult housing situation there I do wonder if it is that attractive an option despite its reputation.

Travelban · 03/03/2023 07:25

@hotmilkytea yes, dd1 is a linguist ! Applied and received offers from Liverpool,Manchester, Lancaster, Newcastle and UCL. Favourites currently are UCL, Liverpool and Newcastle but doing offer holder days to confirm!!

NotDonna · 03/03/2023 08:23

Fabulous offers @Travelban are the offer holders soon?
Yaay!! DD received an offer from Bath this morning for one of her two courses - her fave one! They’ve kindly dropped from AAA to AAB with core maths, which she already has. I think she’ll firm it and then insure York (ABB also dropped due to core maths). Now to get the grades!

Travelban · 03/03/2023 08:30

@NotDonna great news about Bath and York! And yes to now getting the grades...!
Dd has done thr Lancaster and Liverpool offer holder days. Manchester was full. Doing Newcastle un a couple of weeks time and UCL haven't scheduled one yet!! Have you done any?

bguthb90 · 03/03/2023 08:55

And there goes another week of radio silence from Bristol, Durham and Edinburgh.

At least we're now past the halfway point between application date (early Dec) and the May cutoff date

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 03/03/2023 09:19

I loved studying languages at Newcastle. From the quad, you can walk to Exhibition park in 10 minutes or so and eat in the cafe around there- not far and a chance to get some green space.

Tree543 · 03/03/2023 10:20

My ds is still waiting for CompSci at Bath and Southampton. But worried that if he does get an offer it will be too late for the offer days.
