Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

DD still waiting on UCL for languages ...from various sources she thinks it's going to be a while yet, but here is hoping. She wants to go to offer holders day if possible and they say they have one in April and May , so hopefully we will hear next month??

WendyWebersdrugget · 18/02/2023 10:25

First offer came this week - ABB for Southampton! One relieved DS. I don’t think we’ll hear later anything from UCL for a while unless they do an interview or something. DS is keen to do an offer holder day so will book for late March.

lovefizzycolabottles · 18/02/2023 13:29

@LaundryPrincess dd waiting on UCL (economics) but has one from Bristol. Looks like they are starting to trickle out for UCL on student room for some subjects. Wish they’d get on with it…

TrainCarriage · 18/02/2023 14:24

Me too!!
The waiting is horrible.

mightyducks · 19/02/2023 19:46

Still waiting on 3 - Imperial, St Andrews and Glasgow! Feels like we are waiting so long….

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 19/02/2023 21:08

DS has heard back from Imperial and has an interview scheduled. Still waiting for others, including Edinburgh and St. Andrews

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/02/2023 21:09

DD has offers from all her 5. But her favourite (Leeds) is waiting until after the deadline before sending the contextualised offers out. Makes me nervous that it's going to be a bit of a frenzy sorting accommodation.

hellypad · 19/02/2023 23:10

5 offers back for DD too, we are now doing offer holder days, have been to Birmingham and Sheffield and have York and Warwick the first 2 weekends in March, tbh they are all getting a bit same now especially after attending the open days too. A bit scary too though as she will have to make her final decision once they are all over.

DinkyDaisy · 20/02/2023 06:16

Yes, @hellypad I find decision making scary, especially as ds going against the grain of general opinion (school /wider family) with his likely choice. I am going to one with him next weekend and have asked his Dad to do Bath on the 4th as I like Bath and need to be out of the way when ds is decision making and may dismiss it!
He is a strong minded boy but also feels bit overwhelmed by the process and chat around the issue. Everyone has an opinion...

Ciri · 20/02/2023 13:29

It’s tricky making decisions. DS really loves his lowest offer university. It’s still a great university but if he firms it it effectively leaves him without anywhere to put as an insurance since his other offers are higher.

hellypad · 20/02/2023 13:33

@Ciri similar to DD actually though her favourites are Birmingham and Warwick but Birmingham is her lowest offer so if she chooses that as her firm she is stuck for her insurance. Such a big decision for them to make. @DinkyDaisy that does sound tough thankfully we would be happy with any of her choices, though tbh I kind of hope she doesn't pick York as it is the furthest away.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 20/02/2023 15:16

I think it they like the lowest offer university best then just firm it. Better to go to your firm choice than your insurance anyway as accommodation might be more straightforward and they are not going to be in a worse position by doing that than they would be if that university was their insurance.

SlightlyJaded · 20/02/2023 15:46

OK, so Newcastle offer came today. Just for anyone else waiting on Geog at Newcastle. Huge relief here as this was first choice.

DinkyDaisy · 20/02/2023 16:10

His favourite not a bad choice as University has a lot going for it- interesting interactive teaching methods, good placement reputation and employment record - Surrey University. But BBB tariff when he is now predicted A star, A, A... Has A star epq as well. However, he has to be there for 3 years... His life...
If he puts it first choice there is no insurance really...

DinkyDaisy · 20/02/2023 16:11

4 years with placement or overseas year

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 20/02/2023 18:27

Standard offer from Liverpool this evening five weeks after the application went in. Three down, still waiting on two. Feeling a bit behind on offer holders days. We haven't heard anything from Cardiff about theirs and the one that we know about I am not sure we can get to unfortunately. Hopefully we can line up a visit to Liverpool soon once they send their e mail over. The offer is just on UCAS so far.

Jabiru · 20/02/2023 18:36

DD has two offers for law and two rejections. Waiting on York.

We did open days up and down the country and she only applied to two of the ones she visited.

she narrowed her choices down by choosing russell group, non-LNAT, non-Scottish, non-London and ‘not Exeter because it’s too far away.’

The two offers are two universities she didn’t Visit.

I’m finding the whole process quite stressful myself!

sevilla99 · 20/02/2023 18:48

@SlightlyJaded Yes, DD got her Geog offer for Newcastle through on Saturday, which was a bit of a surprise! Offer Holder Day for 22nd cancelled due to strike action, but there are days on 25th and in March.

SlightlyJaded · 20/02/2023 20:40

Ah that's good to know @sevilla99. We were a bit surprised that the grade boundary was fractionally lower than Manchester and Leeds - ABB as opposed to AAB which is what we'd expected.

NotDonna · 20/02/2023 22:36

Well done to all the DC getting recent offers especially their first choices!
DD has mocks this week. Revised pretty thoroughly over half term so fingers crossed they go ok. It’s a bit tricky when they didn’t sit GCSEs isn’t it?

SlightlyJaded · 20/02/2023 23:18

@NotDonna yes - we are worried about lack of exam experience here. DD is predicted A*AA but really struggles with exam conditions. She recently got a C for her weakest subject in a 'mock'- mock .... She is perfectly capable of what's needed when sat in her bedroom, but she is crap at exams - she just falls apart. At the moment her insurance offer is ABB so a C isn't going to cut it! YIkes.

Could I ask where your DD applied? Only if you're happy to say of course.

Justbetweenus · 21/02/2023 18:03

Has anyone’s DC heard from Glasgow - specifically economics/business? It’s DS’s offer he really wants. 🤞

Jabiru · 22/02/2023 00:24

Train carriage - she was rejected from Warwick and Leeds and holds offers from Newcastle and Sheffield.

GCSE 999999888
A level predicted A*AA

‘senior student’ at college
selected to represent college in Poland recently
work experience in law
qualified lifeguard and swimming teacher
lots of extra curricular (piano grades all
distinctions, rowing, D of E).

just very, very competitive, and much more that we thought!

not sure what else we could do. Sadly live in a reasonably good postcode….

NotDonna · 22/02/2023 06:25

Amazing GCSE’s @Jabiru is she applying for law?
